Chapter 108: 108. A Name

When Lann first arrived in this magical world, what frightened him the most were not the grim monsters, the swift werewolves, or vampires.

But the curses, demon spirits, and... spirit control!

Physical monsters didn’t really concern Lann.

Though he was physically weak at the time, who back in his hometown hadn’t watched a few times of artillery or shooting practice on TV?

Even though Lann didn’t have these things, it didn’t prevent him from initially treating the power from his hometown world as his own strength.

That was one of the few things that brought him a moment of peace when he first arrived in this dangerous world.

Yet at the same time, those non-physical monsters and magic became the things that unnerved Lann the most.

In the hometown world, dead meant dead.

But here, just looking at those demon spirits’ wretched appearances, Lann felt that if he had to die, he should pick a time with less resentment.

Those demon spirits wandering the human world, their wails seemed like perpetual torture!

And the magic that could completely twist and control a person’s free will was even more chilling.

In the hometown world, there were many works describing how a loser could live it up after mastering spirit control.

But probably no one wants to become the victim or background character in those works.

Hence Lann, overwhelmed by a huge sense of crisis, formulated several mental defense plans with Mentos.

Later, after becoming a Demon Hunter and gaining knowledge of extraordinary powers, most of these plans were scrapped.

Looking back now, those discarded plans seemed as laughable as castles in the air.

Just the imagination of an outsider.

But a few were kept, just in case.

The third mental defense plan was specifically designed to prevent visual-mediated spirit influence.

Under Lann’s command, scattered patches of color appeared on his retina.

Then, as if confirming a region, the patches became a dark mosaic, completely covering the mutated fingers of the Lady of the Lake under the black mosaic.

Mentos would analyze the source of the spirit influence in real time, adjusting the position and shape of the mosaic according to movements.

Once the largest source of mental influence was covered, Lann’s mind immediately regained clarity.

”Sir, your spirit recovery efficiency and resilience far exceed our initial expectations!”

Mentos exclaimed with delight.

Lann was not surprised.

”The benefits brought by the gene seed are not just physical; the unnatural phenomena when we opened the bottle cap indicated that the source of the gene seed—the Human Empire—must also possess extraordinary spiritual accomplishments.”

At this moment, in Lann’s view, the Lady of the Lake was merely a large mosaic on her hand.

Then the mosaic fell, landing on the corpse on the ground, and the whole corpse seemed infected, turning into a large mosaic patch.

The large mosaic occasionally protruded on the left, fluctuated on the right.

It looked less like a human body, more like an octopus caught on shore.

Flabby and squirming.

The air inexplicably filled with a strong sea stench, even though the sunlight was just as bright, it gave a dirty feeling of being covered with mold and dust.

Like a piece of greasy, dusty frosted glass.

Beside the Lady of the Lake, Miss Nymph dared not twist her body to look, only showing her pretty back.

Seeing her shoulders trembling revealed that even without seeing, the pervasive feeling was tormenting her mind.

But for Lann, who had now activated mental defense measures——

Retro photo filter, activated!

Unable to see the true form of the mutation, his spirit remained resilient, immune to the mental pollution just as a blind man receiving flirtatious looks.

As soon as Ubank’s corpse on the ground was completely reduced to ”a puddle,” the Lady of the Lake’s fingers emerged from the mosaic patch.

Restored to their original verdant form.

Seeing Lann merely thump his hand with his fist and then show no sign of disturbance throughout, the Lady smiled with satisfaction and nodded.

”You may ask him one question, only one. He is affected by Da Gun’s power; his mental structure can only hold up to this point.”

The Lady of the Lake turned back to the edge of the pool, hugging Nymph and patting her back to soothe her mental panic.

While Lann squinted slightly, moving closer to the mosaic on the ground in his view.

”Just right, I have only one question.”

Lann’s expression was not exactly intimate when facing the Lady of the Lake, but the necessary respect and friendliness were present.

But as he approached the already indecipherable corpse, his expression changed completely.

This corpse, when alive, had led the Cannibal Tribe, slicing and hanging countless people like meat pigs.

He had also gathered manpower, wantonly abducted young children, cruelly trained them into ”gift boxes” adorned with bows, given to those ”kind lords.”

Lann didn’t actually interact much with him.

But he could see that this person wasn’t actually evil... just greedy.

And as long as evil could satisfy his greed, he would strive to become evil.

People always say ”There’s nothing wrong with pursuing a better life.”

Ubank, when alive, completely could not comprehend why Lann was determined to kill him; no one even paid him, right?

But this logic made perfect sense to Lann himself.

You think that for your own better life, you can trample on others’ lives.

You think you’re working for big names, so even if you do wrong, no one dares to confront you.

But that’s tough luck, buddy...

I saw it!

I’ll confront it!

”Give me a name, Ubank.”

Lann’s voice was calm and resolute.

The henchmen must die, so must the boss of the whole slave-trafficking chain, regardless of the background.

”Your big boss’s name.”

The dead man’s voice was flat, his remaining spirit almost completely corroded by Da Gun’s power.

Now, he only reacted due to the Lady’s power.

In a drowning-like gurgling throat sound, a lengthy name was uttered.

”Prince... Raf Stesa... Count.”

After saying those words, the mosaic pool in Lann’s view suddenly expanded.

Because the corpse covered by the mosaic immediately collapsed into an even more unrecognizable form.

In the end, the solid black mosaic patch in Lann’s view vanished completely.

On the ground before him, only a puddle of foul pus vaguely outlined some form of ”creature.”

”I dissolved it, the interfering soul power comes from Da Gun; I can’t let it remain in the world.”

It seemed as if with the dissolution of the corpse, the surrounding environment abruptly changed and returned to normal.

Miss Nymph’s back also ceased trembling.

”Did you get the answer you were looking for, Lann?”

The Lady of the Lake gently patted her messenger’s back while asking the Demon Hunter.

”This answer is crisp and decisive...”

Lann tightened his gloves, producing a leather squeezing ”creak.”

He flashed a sunny handsome smile to the Lady of the Lake.

”Ma’am, I am satisfied.”

But this sunshine was not warm; instead, it was like a blood-drenched sunset... murderous intent ablaze!
