Bear School Astartes

Chapter 100: 100. Kill them all

The sounds of battle lasted for less than two and a half minutes.

Lann’s steel sword slashed diagonally, the bright sword light swinging wide, leaving afterimages that bent like a whip.

When the blade first contacted an enemy, sparks of steel friction erupted from his armor.

But soon, the shoulder plate was split, the piercing sound of metal tearing rang out, from the shoulder pit all the way to the opposite armpit.

The unyielding steel, once unshakable, now seemed unremarkable before Lann.

Collarbone, spine, scapula... all the bones obstructing the blade were severed.

The momentum of the steel sword did not wane, slicing off another’s arm, completing a perfect arc.

Blood flowed on the ground, a lot of blood.

Each step made a ”squish, squish” sound.

The inn didn’t just have people barging into Lann’s room; there were also those keeping watch outside.

Lann cut down a total of twenty-seven people.

From the second floor where he was staying, all the way down to the dining room below.

Indeed, as Ubank had said, no matter how loud the noise, no one dared to come out to see.

No one here would wail or scream from injury.

Because most of them only retained the ability to gurgle blood from their mouths.

Lann calmly pulled out a cloth, wiped the blood off the steel sword, and sheathed it on his back.

Then, as usual, he returned to his room via the stairs.

The sleekly furred hunting dogs were now in four pieces, sliding down the stairs with the blood.

His hooded cloak had been torn off at the start, now Lann displayed his face and eyes without concern.

Much blood splattered on the ceiling and walls, Lann’s bright silver hair also stained with blood.

Yet the bloodstains did not mar his features, instead adding a cruel beauty.

Like a bloodstained, elegantly curved hunting knife.

Returning to the room, Alia stood in the pool of blood, feigning calm.

The last time she saw a scene of mass slaughter was when Lann saved her; back then she was far from the battlefield, feeling little.

But today, she was very close, yet she was far from collapsing, quickly adapting to the scene.

Lann patted her shoulder as he passed, a gesture of encouragement.

Then he walked towards the large table he had initially flipped and kicked away.

Counting Ubank, there were seven people temporarily disabled by the table hitting their chest and lungs.

Five had already been stabbed through the throat by weapons Lann casually tossed out.

”Bang - Crack.”

The boot with external plate armor stomped on someone’s neck, bending it into an odd angle.

The terrified, yet spirited eyes from a moment ago dimmed this moment.

Just one left.

Beside the corpse, Ubank struggled to shrink his head until Lann withdrew his foot, then turned his sweaty face with a flattering smile.

The cold sweat was not just from fright, but mainly from pain.

When the table hit the ground, his leg was crushed.

Now, the half leg sticking out from under the table was probably twisted up.

”Lann! My brother! I knew you’d keep me alive, it’s a wise decision! I promise you!”

That ingratiating smile made even Mentos scoff inside Lann’s head.

If knowing the times makes one wise, then this fellow is far too wise.

But who could fathom Ubank’s inner fear at this moment?

Yes, he was a Skellige man, a born pirate, killing without batting an eye, slaughtering like eating.

But even the greatest warrior, or the most famed knight he’d seen couldn’t face ten crossbowmen, and twenty-seven warriors in a confined space and slaughter them all!

The team that was lively and cheerfully following him, even easily capturing a Demon Hunter, was wiped out in two and a half minutes!

It takes him longer than that to take a crap!

Twenty-seven strong, armed warriors, adept at their weapons, all dead in less than two and a half minutes!

Even killing chickens doesn’t happen this fast!

Ubank has a very clear self-awareness.

He’s a decent warrior, an excellent dog trainer, and a shrewd speculator...

But he’s not alive now because he’s so great.

He’s alive because of the intelligence in his brain.

Lann tilted his head to look down at him, raised his foot, and stepped onto the upper edge of the large table.

”Creak—ugh!!!”

As the weight on the table increased, Ubank’s eyes widened, the veins on his neck bulged, and the muscles on his face involuntarily twitched in pain.

His painstakingly maintained smile turned twisted and ferocious.

Less than three minutes ago, he looked at this Demon Hunter in front of him and still thought of himself as the sure-shot hunter.

The opponent was nothing more than a wild bear that would be bound hand and foot as soon as it entered the city. No matter how strong a bear is, in the city, it’s nothing more than an exhibition animal or a dining table’s ingredient, right?

And just three minutes later...

”Clatter—”

The Roaring Bear Head Necklace around Lann’s neck lightly trembled.

He just put his foot on the table’s edge, reached for the conical crystal in the alchemy pouch at his waist.

”Hey, Lann.”

Terry’s slightly tired voice echoed in his mind.

”How was your day today?”

”Not bad. How’s your investigation progressing?”

The Demon Hunter answered succinctly. At the moment, he was in combat mode, and his calm, wave-free thinking made Terry a bit uncomfortable.

But she didn’t dwell on it.

”It’s tough... My end still can’t find any discrepancies in the tax system, and we still grossly underestimate the enemy’s sphere of influence. Over at Keira’s side, there are no flaws in Temeria’s official institutions, but something is fishy with the Dwarf Bank, Vivaldi Bank.”

”Did she continue the investigation?”

Terry was silent for a moment on the other end, then sighed.

”Vivaldi admitted there were discrepancies in his accounts, but on the other hand, he signed a contract with Temeria’s espionage agency, and the suspicious accounts were marked as ’confidential.’ If he wants to continue doing business in Temeria, he can’t reveal that stuff to anyone.”

”The two of us aren’t influential enough to make a Dwarf banker abandon all his business in a country.”

”That’s also why I’m communicating with you. It seems very hard for Keira and me to make further progress unless we report it directly to Veltrest and let the King intervene. But now the problem is, Veltrest is far away at La Vallette Castle for leisure. To get him back, it would take at least ten days.”

As Terry said this, her tone could hardly conceal her embarrassment.

Faced with the initial instructions from Airetusa Academy, the two of them were full of confidence, even taking it lightly.

But as the investigation deepened, they realized the vast and intricate web they were facing.

Facing Lann, though the Demon Hunter had no idea about their initial dismissive attitude towards the case, she felt ashamed herself.

”Don’t mind it, Terry. No need to wait for the King to return; most of those kids can’t wait.”

Lann, while communicating with the Female Warlock, looked down at the ingratiatingly smiling Ubank.

”I’ve made progress here.”

”Please come over in a bit. I’ll give you someone; use your magic to see if you can dig some intelligence out of his brain.”

Terry let out a gasp of surprise on the other end. She and Keira, two powerful Female Warlocks who felt utterly clueless and helpless about the challenging problem, were shocked that the Demon Hunter caught a ”tongue” in just one day?!

Lann’s hand left his waist, grabbing the tableboard and flipping it over.

Indeed, Ubank’s shin had become an outward, blunt angle.

”Need me to help you up?”

Those cat eyes stared intently at him, and despite the excruciating pain, the Head Eater didn’t dare to agree.

”I’ll do it myself, heh, heh, I’ll do it myself.”

Leaning against the wall and the corpse of his subordinate, Ubank slowly stood up from the ground.

Lann didn’t look at him more and turned to Alia, comforting the little girl.

If this guy broke a leg and could still escape from him, it would indeed be astounding.

But just as Ubank struggled to stand straight, the leg he used for balance stepped right onto a puddle of grease.

His ingratiating smile was abruptly replaced with astonishment as he toppled over.

This should have been just an ordinary fall, not injurious or bone-breaking...

If not for the book ”The Principles of Business, and How to Exploit Them,” standing right where his neck was about to land!
