Bear School Astartes

Chapter 76: 76. Farewell

Having confirmed his next target, Lann said goodbye to Margaret.

”I will leave Airetusa tonight.”

Margaret looked up in surprise.

”So soon? Aren’t you planning to convert those 1500 Orens into power at maximum efficiency? Money can be earned again, but you only have one life. Lann, you know what level their forces are, right?”

The blonde beauty’s sea-blue eyes seriously met the cat’s eyes.

”Vizima is the capital of Temeria, where you could hit a powerful dignitary just by throwing a piece of mud in the street. Commoners seem to live in the same city with them, but as soon as they want to use their power, commoners are as fragile as ants.”

”Being able to project resources and power into the treacherous and barren Velen, maintaining a band of armed thugs, and building a secret port and a network of watchtowers, do you know how much money this costs? People like this, even in Vizima, are definitely the most difficult to deal with.”

Margaret spoke earnestly over there, but Lann just smiled and nodded at her.

Obviously not dissuaded.

”You’re right about everything, but Rita... you also know why I want to slaughter those bastards, right?”

Faced with Lann’s smiling face, Margaret’s words faltered.

She recalled that night in the camp.

The Demon Hunter being besieged and crushed, leaning against the cage that imprisoned her, not for money, not for honor or fame.

Just because he wanted to, he saw something vile and evil and wanted to handle it.

So, even when outnumbered, even when smashed by a warhammer and vomiting blood, and even when poisoned beyond his limit, he continued to fight.

Such a person, once he’s decided to do something, nothing could stop him.

Until death.

Margaret bit her plump lip, frowned, and remained silent.

”Understood... You’re not someone who wants to save money to line your pockets... You’re not that kind of person. It seems the power these Orens can provide you is limited to this.”

After a long time, the blonde beauty spoke again.

She sighed and took a prism-shaped crystal from the magic bag behind her.

”This is a... never mind, you wouldn’t understand the magic terminology. This is a long-distance communication device, you understand? It’s like a letter, but letters convey text, and this conveys sound...”

Margaret did her best to make her words more comprehensible, as in her eyes, most Demon Hunters didn’t have a good educational foundation.

But Lann smiled knowingly when she mentioned the ”long-distance communication device.”

”What’s the communication radius? How’s the delay? How is it charged? What’s the audio clarity like?”

His barrage of questions left Margaret stunned, and in her daze, Lann took the prism crystal.

”You understand?” The look in her eyes made Lann feel like he was being seen as a senseless brute before her.

But Margaret quickly became excited.

A handsome, strong, energetic Demon Hunter who now could even keep up with a Warlock’s thinking!

This was truly surprising!

”I have its pair, even if you’re in Vizima I can stay in touch. It needs a Mage for recharging, but don’t worry, once you arrive in Vizima, this crystal will be sensed by two of my friends there, they will not only recharge it for you but also provide whatever help they can.”

”Two friends?”

”Triss Merigold and Keira Metz. They are the Mage advisors sent to Veltrest’s side, also graduates from this academy, you can trust them.”

Margaret earnestly reminded the Demon Hunter.

”If the opponent really is too strong to resist, you should return here. Both our lifespans are very long, far longer than ordinary people. Our debts can be collected at any time in this long life, that’s the mindset an immortal should have, do you understand?”

The young man chuckled and nodded, placing the prism crystal in his bosom and turning to leave.

Immortals should make good use of their longevity, Lann could understand that.

But if you could elevate your power to crush your enemies, who would refuse to deal with them on the spot?

Margaret was unsure whether Lann took her words to heart, but she knew she couldn’t stop him, or even shouldn’t.

And after Lann left, Tishaya approached Margaret.

”A peculiar man, Rita. Above Luoxia Palace, there should be no man in the world who doesn’t want to enter, after all, this place is full of Female Warlocks.”

Tishaya flicked her fingers, readjusting the chair that Lann had displaced when he stood up, before sitting down and looking at her stunning student and friend.

”But you were a bit mistaken, Rita. Purging those people isn’t just about the blood debt for you two, it’s about the pride of Airetusa.”

”Then how should I advise him? Tell him he should fight to the death?”

Margaret’s retort carried a hint of bitterness.

But Tishaya showed no response to it.

”No.”

The teacher’s answer made the blonde beauty look at her with surprise.

Tishaya continued calmly.

”You should still tell him to come back, but let him be filled with guilt at the same time, that’s the way to keep him bound to you. You want to achieve that, don’t you?”

”There’s no need to hide it from me, for binding a brilliant Demon Hunter to the academy is a good thing too.”

~~~~~~
With an alchemy pouch that had become bulging, Lann and Alia walked out of the isolated Airetusa island to Gos Velen.
First, Lann visited Yuna and Fergus’s blacksmith shop.
There he received the good news that White had returned home safely, and Bernie was not infected and was recovering.
The young Dwarf looked Lann up and down, clicking his tongue repeatedly.
”Tsk, with the plague, did your chest plate take a direct hit from a hammer? My god, it’s a wonder you can still stand here. The master’s not in today, but don’t worry, this little issue Yuna can handle!”
The blonde girl with braided hair nodded with a cheerful smile, exuding enthusiasm: ”Leave it to me.”
Yuna took the chest plate away for repair, while Alia circled Fergus with great curiosity.
According to her, she had never seen a non-human race in her hometown.
This behavior really annoyed Fergus.
”Where’s this wild child from, don’t push me! Lann, keep her in check!”
The Demon Hunter grabbed the little girl’s collar, pulling her away from the Dwarf.
Only then did Fergus have the chance to adjust his mustache.
”Phew—So, what’s your business here, Lann? Anything else you want to fix?”
”Hey, Yuna’s skills are good, but in terms of reading customers, she’s a bit behind you.”
Lann chuckled, slapping a blueprint onto the table.
The blueprint looked just like the arm guard he currently wore, but there was an additional pipe at the wrist’s underside.
A rifled pipe, essentially a gun barrel.
”Can it be modified?”
Lann asked Fergus. Although the Dwarf’s skills weren’t top-notch, if he couldn’t even distinguish what his shop could and couldn’t do, he couldn’t even fake being a front desk.
The Dwarf frowned, scratching his bulbous red nose.
”What’s the purpose of this contraption?”
”To be honest, I’ve been bullied hard by bastards with bows and crossbows recently.”
The Demon Hunter shrugged.
”I have a Magic Seal that can generate impact force, so I thought of adding a pipe to the arm guard and preparing some projectiles. With my Magic Seal control, it’s feasible to completely control the impact force to the back of the pipe, at this point, the projectile’s destructiveness wouldn’t be less than a strong crossbow.”
Fergus nodded, contemplating: ”That’s an interesting idea, and fortunately, I can understand it. But the key thing I want to ask about is the rifling inside... are you joking with this precision requirement?”
”If it’s not possible, just keep it simple, the effective shooting distance is the only difference, and it’s already farther than pure Magic Seal shots.”
”Then there’s work to do, but don’t get too happy, the master’s not here. Your arm guard needs a major modification, and this must be done by the master, Yuna can’t manage it.”
”I see...,” Lann clicked his tongue in disappointment. ”Looks like I can’t use it this time.”
