Chapter 83: 83. Mirror Master

There are seven Skellige guards, and they once completed the feat of defeating a wild mage at this tavern. Going upstairs, Alia and he even passed by one of the guards...

Although they haven’t interacted much with this group, tonight, Lann and Alia certainly had some connection with them!

Now, the girl was looking at Lann’s cat eyes with a puzzled expression.

It seemed she couldn’t understand how so many things she had never heard of could come out of his mouth.

Now Lann felt a chill down his back.

This wasn’t the result of excessive bleeding or the aftereffects of the gene seed implantation surgery.

His injuries, even the blood loss, had already been healed under the effect of the magic potion.

This was a psychological chill.

And just at that moment, a melodious and mysterious whistle sounded outside the room.

The tune was soothing, but during this time when people downstairs were still drinking, laughing, and singing loudly,

the whistle, though not strong in penetration and not intense in melody, somehow overshadowed all other sounds and reached inside the room?!

Are you fucking kidding me?!

Lann hasn’t been in this world for a short time now. Back in his home world, it would be equivalent to being an exchange student abroad for a semester.

During this time, following Bordeaux, he had encountered demon spirits, ghost dogs, magic curses...

But these things, while sounding illusory, actually just require the demon hunter to find a method to counter them.

It’s just a slightly more complicated hunt.

But now, to silently and massively alter memories, to make seven skilled warriors appear and disappear...

Lann couldn’t think of what could accomplish this!

The intense emotional fluctuation activated the gene seed newly implanted in his body.

This integrated enhancement organ quickly began coordinating various functions within Lann’s body.

It couldn’t increase Lann’s basic abilities without other enhancement organs, but it could enable his current abilities to be perfectly exerted.

The demon hunter’s insight began to unbelievably enhance, his breathing automatically transitioned to a slow and deep pattern, providing more oxygen-carrying capacity for the blood, and without any preparation, even if all his muscles tensed in the next moment, there would be no discomfort...

Unknowingly, after the whistle sounded, Lann, in a state of bewilderment, entered a combat state!

His cat eyes were tightly fixed on the room door, and his hand started reaching towards the sword placed beside him.

This room door, even for an average person with a hammer, would shatter with one hit, but in his tense state, Lann unknowingly treated it as the first line of defense.

And in this war-ready stance, Alia seemed to feel nothing at all.

She naturally jogged over to open the door.

”Wait! Alia...”

Lann didn’t even have time to stop her before the door was opened.

In the creaking sound of the wooden door, what appeared in the cat’s eye was the bartender from the Silver Swan Tavern.

He was still in the same attire, linen top and bottom, only now with a towel slung over his left shoulder.

A bald head with a smiling face.

In his hands, he held a wooden tray with a sumptuous dinner on it.

”Miss, your dinner has been delivered.”

The bartender handed the tray to Alia, who naturally took it and placed it on the table inside the room.

And the shirtless Lann, after a brief hesitation, completely abandoned the act of reaching for the sword.

Instead, he kept his eyes fixed on the other, slowly walked to the bartender’s side, and watched the little girl carrying the tray.

”I instructed Alia to eat downstairs before coming up, but I didn’t mention having the bartender deliver the meal... you don’t intend to charge extra service fees for this, do you?”

Standing beside the bartender, Lann spoke in a whisper, as if afraid to awaken some kind of creature.

Both of them knew that in this scene, no one cared about any damn ”service fee.”

The bartender’s tone was as polite and earnest as when he was at the front desk.

”No, no, please don’t blame Miss Alia. Who could bear to see such a noble lady go hungry?”

”But she just told me she was already quite full down in the hall.”

”Oh, is that so?” The bartender slowly turned his head, smiling as he looked at Lann’s face. ”She must have remembered wrong, you see...”

”She’s terribly hungry now.”

When Lann turned his head, Alia, as if she had been starving for a long time, eagerly started tearing at the bread, dipping it in the soup, and eating it.

Lann’s eyes narrowed slightly.

He clearly knew that although Alia was playful and mischievous, she was indeed born into the Duke’s house.

Now, standing at the door of the inn room were two people, one being the ”knight” she followed, and yet in such circumstances, she was gobbling up her food as if starving.

This was completely! Completely abnormal!

After a moment of silence, Lann stopped beating around the bush.

”Tell me... what exactly are you?”

”Aha! Another surprise!” The bartender didn’t answer Lann’s question but instead cheered, wryly looking at the demon hunter.

”I thought that someone like you who despises evil would draw a sword and strike upon seeing your attendant being influenced!”

”I have a helper syndrome and altruism, that I don’t deny. But that doesn’t mean I’m a fool, Mr. Bartender.”

Now Lann directly crossed his arms, leaning against the door frame while looking at the other.

On his exposed chest were the fresh red marks of new flesh.

”I remember clearly, when you were telling us about the Skellige guards, everyone in the hall reacted knowingly. And when I passed by that Skellige guard, other travelers seemed used to it.”

Lann extended two fingers.

”Altering reality or massively altering memory.”

”Either of these, my resistance to you is insignificant, right? Great Mage?”

The bartender patiently listened to Lann’s hypothesis, only interjecting at the end.

”I am no ’Great Mage,’ such esteemed figures, sir. By the way, if any Great Mage could silently alter the memories of hundreds around, he certainly wouldn’t be content with just being a ’Great Mage.’”

This tone, this disdain towards the second guess, was tantamount to directly admitting his reality alteration.

Lann was silent for a moment, then suddenly unfolded his crossed arms and patted his forehead.

”Ah - for heaven’s sake, there really is such a monster like you in this world? I thought all those demon, deity stories were just for fools.”

The young man’s tone didn’t become humble just because the other could alter reality.

On the contrary, this helpless tone was no different than when a demon hunter received a troublesome commission.

For someone who could cut his own heart open without hesitation, many things in this world could leave him helpless.

But very few could truly frighten him.

And the bartender continued watching the helpless demon hunter with an amused look.

”Alright then, Mr. Bartender...might I know your full name?”

Lann extended his hand towards the bartender, making a ”please” gesture.

The bald bartender slightly bowed as a form of return courtesy.

”I am Gant Odim. I often make a living by trading glass and mirrors, so most call me by the nickname ’Mirror Master,’ ’Glass Boy,’ or such. Feel free to choose a preferred name. It’s all the same to me.”
