596: Chapter 9: Ashes 596: Chapter 9: Ashes Hospital, in one of the beds in the general ward.

The secretary drew the curtains around the hospital bed, creating a narrow, enclosed space.

Here, besides the secretary and the man called General Lan, there was also a middle-aged man with the surname Chen—the landlord uncle.

And a doctor who was called over.

The doctor respectfully said, “I’m sorry!

Mr.

Lan Kai!

I didn’t know this patient was your brother!

I will immediately arrange for the best hospital room!”

General Lan…

Lan Kai just waved his hand, and the secretary beside him lifted the curtain, gesturing for the doctor to leave.

The doctor said nothing more, quickly leaving to make arrangements.

Lan Kai is quite a famous entrepreneur.

After the previous leader of the Lan Corporation passed away a few years ago, it was handed over to Lan Kai to inherit, and the business has grown even more since then.

Additionally, Lan Kai is also a renowned philanthropist, having donated quite a lot of equipment to this hospital.

The hospital even developed a sanatorium in collaboration with him… if something went wrong, this doctor’s career would likely end here, so how could he not be attentive?

Not to mention the doctor’s attitude, the landlord uncle’s attitude was naturally more reserved—he had followed the address on Lanxiu’s ID the entire way, only to find that the house had long been abandoned.

Upon inquiry, he was informed it had been sold.

Neighbors said they didn’t know much about Lanxiu’s family.

They only heard that Lanxiu grew up with his mother, but no one had seen what his father looked like.

Helplessly, the landlord uncle had to seek assistance from the police.

At first, he didn’t quite believe it, but he tried it anyway… unexpectedly, this disabled and helpless person turned out to be the brother of the current leader of the Lan Corporation, Lan Kai.

One from a prestigious high society; the other almost living at the bottom of society… the landlord uncle couldn’t help but think of many clichéd soap opera plots at 8 PM—this Lanxiu might just be the offspring of the previous generation’s romantic escapades, right?

The secretary at this time brought over a stool for Lan Kai to sit down.

This leader of the corporation, probably a little over thirty, was looking indifferently at Lanxiu on the hospital bed.

The thin face, despite looking very dry, upon closer inspection, showed a slight resemblance in the brows between Lanxiu and Lan Kai. “Tell me about him,” Lan Kai suddenly spoke.

The landlord uncle was taken aback and quickly said, “Mr.

Lan, actually, I don’t know much.

He moved to my place a year ago.

I have a tenant-landlord relationship with him, and we only meet during rent payment.

I really don’t know much about him, let alone how he ended up like this!

Mr.

Lan, it’s really not related to me!”

Lan Kai suddenly asked, “Did no one come to find him?”

The landlord uncle thought for a while before saying, “There should not have been…

I don’t know, but at least I haven’t encountered anyone.”

Lan Kai nodded, suddenly glanced at the secretary.

The secretary got the hint and took out a bulging yellow envelope from the briefcase, “This is from Boss Lan for you, besides the medical fees you paid upfront, you can keep the rest.”

This big envelope might not just have tens of thousands in it!!

No, the weight is likely over two hundred thousand!

The landlord uncle immediately smiled and reached out to take it, “Thank you, Boss Lan!

Thank you, Boss Lan!

Then… then if there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving first!”

This guy has found such a rich brother, does he still need a landlord like him with no substantial means to be present?

Unexpectedly being able to make some money too!

Happily, and not wanting to get involved in others’ family affairs anymore, the landlord naturally planned to leave quickly. “Hold on.” Lan Kai suddenly called out. “Boss, Boss Lan, is there something else?” The landlord uncle instinctively clutched the money tightly. “I want to go take a look where he lived.” …

Just opened the door, a pungent stench immediately gushed out.

Lan Kai took out a handkerchief, covered his nose, and with a frown, walked into this simple single rental room. “Boss Lan, be careful!” The landlord uncle quickly shouted, “There’s garbage here, heh heh… be careful not to get dirty.”

Saying so, the landlord uncle quickly pinched his nose and lifted the garbage placed here, throwing it to the side.

Lan Kai told the secretary to wait outside the door before he actually walked into this tiny bedroom. “Boss Lan, the things here were not moved after the incident happened, nothing has been moved!” The landlord uncle quickly said. “You should leave too.” But Lan Kai waved his hand.

The landlord uncle nodded… to be honest, he didn’t really want to stay here either, mainly because it was unlucky.

Lan Kai took a glance at this room.

On the messy bed, clothes were placed around like dried vegetables, and there were many garments on the floor, emitting a damp and musty smell.

A cockroach suddenly crawled past Lan Kai’s feet, causing his brows to furrow into almost a ‘川’ character.

Not to mention the stench coming from the toilet… inside, there’s probably those adult diapers that haven’t been cleaned in time, right?

With Lanxiu’s lower body completely paralyzed, incontinence was a common occurrence.

Lan Kai still remained expressionless… but when his gaze moved to the only table here, his eyes suddenly sharpened.

He walked up to the table, picked up a covered photo frame… in the photo, one was Lanxiu, and the other a smiling woman.

Lan Kai’s eyes slightly contracted, suddenly threw the photo frame on the ground.

His foot stepping on the frame, crushing the glass directly underfoot.

Lan Kai finally picked up the photo again, crumpled it into a ball, finally took a lighter from the table, and burned the photo into ashes.

Only then did he leave this foul-smelling room.

In the car, Lan Kai rolled down the window, looking at the secretary standing outside the car, and gave a calm order: “Find someone to clean up the house’s items, it needs to be done today.

Furthermore, let the landlord rent the house out as soon as possible.”

The secretary quickly noted it down.

At this moment, Lan Kai took a glance out the window, at that old rental house, his expression slightly gloomy, and suddenly said, “Also, keep this matter confidential, don’t let it spread.

Especially not to my family.” “I understand, Boss Lan.” The secretary nodded heavily.

The car slowly drove out of the alley, Lan Kai also closed the window, leaned his head back closing his eyes, not sure what he was thinking.

Not long after, Lan Kai took out his phone. “Xiao Rou, I won’t be coming back for dinner tonight.” “Suit yourself, whether you come or not, it’s the same.

If you’re not coming back, I might even be a bit happier!”

Beep—beep—!

The sound of the other side hanging up first. … …

In an ashtray full of cigarette ashes and butts, some embers suddenly began to separate and float bit by bit, along with the remnants not fully burned.

They continually assembled in the air, gradually restoring to their original form, ultimately becoming a wrinkled… photo.

The shattered frame on the ground was also restored to its original form in the same manner.

Eventually, they all fell into the hands of Boss Luo.

Boss Luo carefully looked at the photo, seemingly not intending to erase the traces of it being crumpled—despite such a thing being as easy as drinking water for Boss Luo.

Luo Qiu just placed it back into the frame.

The person in the photo, with her, not only smiling but also holding up a trophy together. “If there’s no place for you here, why not stay at my place?”

Luo Qiu mumbled, then left the place. …

Soon after, some people dressed in moving company uniforms came in.

Under the disciple of Lan Kai’s secretary, they began moving the items here. “Listen up, every single item must be shown to me, only after I approve can it be moved and sent to the dump!”
