Genetic Ascension

Chapter 2128: Gross

The rumbling of the world seemed like it was about to calm before it suddenly just… snapped.

It was like the world reached a breaking point. The core itself destabilized so much that magma began to spill out from fault lines, large, pulsing waves of magnetic streams causing the weather high above to go wild.

Sylas looked up, his gaze flickering. It seemed that along with accidentally killing One before he was ready, he had also destroyed this planet without really meaning to.

He was still regretful about One because the man almost certainly knew more about what was going on than Two or Three ever would. He might have had more detailed answers, while he was pretty sure that Two had already told him everything he knew.

The world, however… that was a necessary evil.

Maybe it was a blessing in disguise anyway. If he had started to question One and the latter began to answer, he probably would have ended up like Three had anyway and the end result would have been the exact same.

ʼItʼs time to leave.ʼ

Before Sylas did, though, he returned to the crater where Oneʼs corpse lay and took his spatial device. There might very well be many things of interest in there.

One was obviously the de facto leader of everyone here. For him to be sent here before the A-tiers of their Heaven arrived meant that they would have made sure that he was quite prepared.

This was part of why it might have been a blessing in disguise that Sylas defeated him with such ease. Who knew what kind of trump cards and contingencies they had prepared for One assuming the worst case scenario?

But because Oneʼs Will had fractured, essentially breaking his mind, he probably didnʼt even remember what he could have done in those last moments, and that was good enough for Sylas.

Sylas looked up and his gaze landed on Four.

While Two might not know anything more, as Oneʼs woman Four might have heard things she shouldnʼt have—especially since they were of the same Race. Their Aethers were also quite similar as well.

”Fanelei. Take her.” Sylas said as though speaking to empty air.

A grumble came from above. ”Am I not good enough for you?”

The teasing, flirty tone came swiftly, but Sylas ignored it just as swiftly. He didnʼt mind Faneleiʼs antics so long as she continued to be helpful to him, and it seemed that she would continue to be so.

Sylas nodded to himself and looked toward where the Seeing Eye Guild was. There might be something of interest in there, but unfortunately the worldʼs destruction was coming soon and he didnʼt have the strength to stabilize it.

Fanelei might have the raw strength, but she didnʼt have the method that would be necessary.

If Sylas was correct, though, whatever was of interest in the Seeing Eye Guild would pale in comparison to whatever One had, especially since he had been preparing for a breakthrough into the B-tier.

Sylasʼ body flashed and in another instant, he was standing on the teleportation platform. It had certainly seen better days, and it looked like little more than a death trap waiting to happen in its current state. But Sylas still chose to stand upon its cracking surface.

In another blink, Fanelei had appeared, dragging Four by her hair.

Sylas raised an eyebrow.

”What? You want me to treat this little hussy well too? That would be too cruel.” Fanelei pouted.

Four felt like her brain wasnʼt working properly. She was still in a daze after Oneʼs death, so even now that she was being pulled by her hair, her knees scraping against the ground, she couldnʼt quite recover.

But what she did have the lucidity to realize was that, high above them, a rain of blood was falling. No, not just blood… corpses.

And every one of them was an A-tier.

They werenʼt A-tiers she respected, and many of them she felt she would surpass by far given enough time, but they were A-tiers nonetheless… dozens of them.

They fell through the skies dead, their blood falling in a heavy hail that smashed against the ground as though in some form of mourning.

Four realized then that this must have been why none of them showed up, and it could have only been done by the woman beside Sylas right this moment.

Yet this powerful woman was… flirting with a D-tier?

Fourʼs mind went completely blank. This sort of world wasnʼt real. It had to be a dream. Maybe if she drifted off, she would awaken soon enough.

…

Four did awaken, but far sooner than she expected, and only due to the projectile vomit that streamed out of her lips as though to pierce an arrow of stomach mulch through anything that stood before her.

She had never felt so sick in her life, but what shocked her more was that she recognized this sickness. Wasnʼt it teleportation sickness? How violent had the ride been that she ended up in this state? She didnʼt even recall the last time she had experienced teleportation sickness.

A foot stepped past her and Sylas walked away and into the darkness as though he wasnʼt affected in the slightest.

ʼ… How…?ʼ

Fanelei grabbed at her head, shaking it from side to side. Clearly, even she was affected, though much less so.

”What do you want to do with her?” Fanelei asked.

”Question her about the same things I did. But youʼll have to do it here so the void can hide her presence. Otherwise, sheʼll get smited by the Angels.” Sylas said as he drifted into the distance.

”Then?” Fanelei asked.

”Kill her.” Sylas said simply before he vanished.

Fanelei chuckled as the color drained from Fourʼs face. Or maybe that was just the sickness causing that. The girl hardly seemed lucid enough to register words.

”Gross.” Fanelei cringed. ”What are you going to do, then?” she asked.

”Iʼm going back home.” Sylas said, vanishing into the void as he pulled out a scepter.
