Genetic Ascension

Chapter 2115: First Target

There was a flash and Sylas and Fanelei both appeared in the center of a buzzing city. It shouldnʼt have been so easy for them to teleport right to the center of the Seeing Eye Guildʼs controlled territory like this, but all too much was possible when you had a genius like Sylas and Yamero working together.

Of course, it also helped that the Seeing Eye Guild werenʼt really a Guild of powerful Rune Masters. They had good protections, but not top of the line. And it could be said that they were very much occupied with other things and not expecting their number one enemy to suddenly appear in their midst like this.

”I believe you will be detected if you appear like this?” Sylas asked.

He didnʼt know everything about how upper society worked with these powerhouse organizations, but he did know that any powerful organization worth their salt would have means of tracking and minding the movements of A-tiers—and especially that of Legends.

The movement of a Legend was far too important to miss out on, so there was exactly zero chance that they would neglect something like that. It was made all the more easy to do because of the sheer presence A-tiers had.

Legends were at the very limit of what the mortal realm allowed to exist. As such, their very existences themselves were akin to stretches and strains on reality.

Sophisticated detection methods could definitely make them out. Ironically enough, Aether was a lot better at doing this than Runes alone were for various reasons.

However, Fanelei shook her head. ”They might know a Legend appeared, but they wonʼt know itʼs me. And that will still give you time to catch them off guard while their A-tiers are distracted.”

”You are confident?”

Fanelei grinned. ”I wouldnʼt have had a reason to fear them before, let alone now. I feel like a million bucks.”

She gave Sylas a peck on the cheek far faster than he could ever hope to react to, then disappeared in a puff of darkness, her giggling leaving an echo in her wake.

Sylas looked at where Fanelei had disappeared to, not quite sure how he should be reacting to this shift in her demeanor. But he honestly didnʼt care that much about her flirting. He was still a man at the end of the day, he wasnʼt going to lose any skin because a pretty woman harassed him a little bit.

”Hey, dickhead. Get the fuck off the platform. There are a million other people who want to use—.”

Sylas flicked a finger and the head of the teleportation operator slowly fell from his shoulders.

Screams echoed out instantly and the crowd began to scatter. The teleportation operators werenʼt weaklings. This one in particular was a C-tier on the verge of the B-tier.

Of course, it was a pitiful level of strength within that tier. He was certainly no genius and was probably more akin to a scholar than anything else.

But what was true enough was the fact that he was stronger than the average citizen by a decent margin. If Sylas had beaten him after a few exchanges, that would be one thing. But a single strike?

The people flowing in and around this area couldnʼt get out fast enough, their legs carrying them off into the distance faster and faster.

But not everyone reacted that way.

An old man shopping street wares looked over with a frown.

A woman manning a flower shop looked with a cold glint in her eyes.

A young man who had been people-watching while sipping at his tea stood up the most quickly.

The aura of B-tiers soared out of each one of them, but the young man was the first to arrive. Or, rather, his tea cup did. It spun through the air, the liquid squishing and squelching as though it was becoming thick in the air. It rolled with heat until the cup glowed bright red, appearing before Sylas in blazing, hissing lines of smoke.

Sylasʼ eyes watched it all the way through, his body not moving in the slightest. For a moment, the old man and the flower shop woman relaxed, thinking it was over until the cup phased through Sylas like he wasnʼt even there.

The young man appeared right behind his cup, a spear appearing in his hand.

Sylasʼ head tilted to one side and his fist exploded forward, slamming into the young manʼs gut.

BANG.

A hole was blown out of his back.

He hacked up a mouthful of blood, his eyes, literally, bulging out of their sockets and falling in a springy, messy carnage.

Sylas pulled his arm back and it was somehow completely unmarred and untouched by blood.

The young man plopped down to the ground.

Sylas reached up, adjusting his black tie a small bit.

He wore something simple today. A white shirt rolled to his elbows, a black tie, black pants, all tied together with black shoes and a belt. It seemed like he had come to attend a funeral.

Or, given how relaxed he looked, it was more like he was attending the funeral reception, looking for a refreshing beverage to wash the sorrow of the events down.

As far as he was concerned, this war would be ending today.

He was in a good mood. So he thought it best to only kill as much as he needed to.

His gaze shifted over to the old man and the flower shopʼs owner. Raising his fingers, he snapped them a single time and a cage of Runes appeared around their heads.

Their skulls fell in perfect cubes of flesh, their deaths coming so quickly they didnʼt even feel pain to the very end.

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

The skies erupted and blaring warnings flashed amidst the clouds. One after another, the powerhouses of the Seeing Eye Guild soared through the skies in flashing lines of pulsing Aether.

Sylas stood in silence. Why should he move if they would come to him?

That was when he saw his first target.

Four.
