Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1793: Pity

”Brama, you still wonʼt cease this madness?” Yaoyao spoke in a low tone.

At this point, Old Brama didnʼt even know what to say. In the time since then, it could be said that the only thing Sylas had ever done for the Golden Grove was give them benefits.

Sure, Sylas had used them to his ends. But because he had, they had made money hand over fist, and Sylas hadnʼt even started selling Genes just yet.

Part of that was because he didnʼt have the time, but another part was because he didnʼt need it yet.

Even so, just the money the Golden Grove had made from their bets the day Sylas became the Sectorʼs Primus Luminaria was enough to cover all the money Old Brama had used over the years to build Andromeda and then

some.

In fact, trying to use Andromeda as a metric to compare how much Sylas had made them was little more than an insult to how large the sum was.

Because of that one act, Sylas didnʼt even need to spare the Golden Grove a contemplated in the last several months because he knew for a fact that they had long been satiated.

But, clearly, those matters were separate to the Golden Grove.

Honestly speaking, Sylas could understand. He wasnʼt the sort to get angry at perceived injustice, at least not when it was something so intangible as ”face” and ”offense.”

Sylasʼ pride was often misconstrued by people. He had little desire to ”prove” himself to people, nor was he thinking about these matters in terms of what he had done and what he should receive in return for them.

Because of this, he didnʼt get angry. He didnʼt even really plan on arguing based on merit either.

He could quite easily see where the Golden Grove was coming from. What they had in their Secret Realm was something they hadnʼt allowed even a Demi-God to enter. What was Sylas to a Demi-God?

When you looked at things from that perspective, did it matter even if Sylas had made them the richest Merchant Guild amongst Mortal organizations?

Old Brama was about to reply, but Sylas held up a hand and he stopped.

This action made Yaoyao maybe angrier than anything else. Logically, she knew that Old Brama was under contract, but the gap between his and Sylasʼ Wills should still be enormous, and Sylas had already said Megean.

That was to say that from Yaoyaoʼs perspective, Old Brama was bending the knee entirely under his own volition, and that was unacceptable. She couldnʼt understand it at all.

”How far the mighty have fallen,” Niafon said with a sneer.

Old Brama just shook his head. The Golden Race had fallen so far that they werenʼt even worthy of knowing of the things he had experienced since he began to follow Sylas.

The matters Sylas was involved in were so vastly beyond them that there was no way they had heard about anything that happened.

But honestly, Old Brama didnʼt know if hearing about them would have made a difference at all. The Golden Race was so stuck in their ways, thinking about glory days that had long been left behind.

They had been there to witness Sylas prove himself as a Spark Master, there for him to become a Primus Luminaria and the Dominus Paragon.

They were aware that he was destined to be the best Rune Master in the Sector, that he was the strongest F-tier in the entire region by a massive margin, so much so that they probably didnʼt even have an E-tier that could hold up in a single exchange against him.

And yet, here they were nonetheless.

It was this mentality that had made them fight Old Brama at every turn when he was trying to perfect Andromeda.

They were so focused on hoping and praying that a talent would just magically appear amongst their lineage that could accomplish what needed to be done, that they had given up on actually doing what had made them so great in the first place.

”We wonʼt allow you to enter again, Brama. This is the legacy of our people—”

”IʼVE HAD ENOUGH!” Old Bramaʼs voice suddenly boomed, hidden mechanical parts within the sleeves and body of his robes opening and closing like the bristling feathers of a bird. ”Every. Fucking. Time. Itʼs the same thing. I try to innovate, to raise us up, to point us in a different direction, and all you do is sit with your wrists up your asses hoping that a pie will fall from the skies into your laps.

”Youʼre the reason. Youʼre the reason weʼre stuck here in this shithole of a Sector we canʼt even raise our heads in. The mighty? The fallen? What right do you have to any one of those titles, exactly? What is mighty about any one of us? Who cares enough about the weak to say that theyʼve fallen?”

Old Brama raised an arm as though he was pointing a sleeve right at Yaoyaoʼs head, and yet the clinking of metal and billowing of steam echoed soon after until a gun twice the size of his body was pointed right at Yaoyaoʼs head.

Sylas didnʼt say anything from the side, but he did silently note something. This setup... was far stronger than anything he had ever seen Old Brama use before.

This standard was far closer to the ceiling of this Horizon rather than the ceiling of this Sector.

For context, Sylas had seen the ceiling of this Horizon during the Champion Dungeon entry competition. While they had just been F-tiers, the fact he extrapolated out like that meant that Old Brama wasnʼt just holding back a little before. He had been barely trying at all.

Old Brama was still a C-tier. But there was value in such a powerful C-tier.

Unfortunately, the surprises didnʼt end there.

Yaoyao didnʼt look surprised by Old Bramaʼs outburst. Instead, there was pity on her face.

”You should have believed in our Golden Race more. The person weʼve been waiting for appeared in your absence.”

A familiar young man in a golden robe strolled forward steadily. But his aura was entirely different from when Sylas saw him last. In fact, it felt like Zayreus somehow had an aura that reflected Demi-Godhood perfectly.

Old Brama trembled from head to toe.
