Chapter 1640: The Sky Stealer in Undead Cradle! (6)

”The Council is clearly making a move again. We should cancel this entire farce!”

Belfast remained silent without any retort as he also knew that the First Corpse Commander wasn’t making baseless accusations.

With a grave tone, Belfast questioned, ”Even if that’s the case, we can’t just casually call everyone off without Lord Governor’s permission, not to mention it’ll cause upheaval among the little ones. B-but first commander...are you sure about what you saw?”

The First Corpse Commander somberly replied, ”I know it’s hard to believe, but I really felt the presence of an Evernight King when I coincidentally witnessed the abduction of a young one right after sending my puppet outside.

”I’m pretty sure even if you or my main body had come, we couldn’t have prevented it. Moreover, I’m pretty sure that Evernight King also noticed me, but I was ignored, probably because I wasn’t present with my main body, or they simply don’t care.”

Belfast was aware of how proud and powerful the First Corpse Commander was, and the latter had no reason to lie. Not to mention the former had personally confirmed the abrupt disappearance of over a hundred squad members of the Corpse Clan, along with the latter.

That’s the reason Belfast quickly tried to contact the Corpse Governor but failed in the end.

”If that’s true, then we need to be even more careful because an Evernight King’s presence in the Undead Cradle is a danger to all the Corpse Clan.

”The Evernight Council might be up to something, especially with the Midnight Duke’s early, strange behavior as he dared to provoke Lord Governor. Now these sudden disappearances of the young ones could only mean they wanted to draw Lord Governor or have some other purpose.

”However, right now I can’t reach the Lord, which is strange since this event is very crucial, and we were already preparing for the Evernight Council’s deceitful moves. But it’s clear that the Lord wouldn’t lose contact for no reason, and maybe he’s already aware of this and preparing something. We just need to wait.”

The First Corpse Commander seemed to calm down after hearing this, as he also believed in the Corpse Governor’s character.

”Even if that’s true, we still can’t expose those young ones in this sort of danger, so I’m thinking of them retreating at the border of the Undead Boundary until...hmm?!”

Right at that moment, the First Corpse Commander suddenly stopped when he felt a tremor deep in the space, and he quickly became alert, sending his law sense out to find the cause.

But what he saw outside left him aghast because it wasn’t just a tremor in space but something far worse, for the entire Undead Cradle was shaking violently as if something fundamental had been ripped away from its very core.

The battlefield quaked as the hidden spaces rippled; even the air itself seemed to distort for a single, terrifying instant.

Not only the First Corpse Commander, but everyone felt it, including participants, the Corpse Clan, the Evernight Council, and even the Lower Grave Strata, as every existence within the domain froze.

A sense of unease filled everyone’s heart as if something was wrong, especially the Corpse Clan, while the Evernight Council’s members became slightly curious.

But before anyone could react, the apocalyptic tremor ended just like that, and silence returned, leaving only confusion behind.

---

Deep within her hidden space, the Evernight Demon King stopped as she felt the tremor even more deeply than the First Corpse Commander or anyone, as a matter of fact, because of her profound cultivation base.

Her brush hovered mid-air, and for the first time, she frowned as her gaze lifted slowly, as if piercing through layers of space itself.

”...Hmm?”

The altar before her pulsed faintly, reacting to something unseen.

Her eyes narrowed with profound shock and disbelief, ”T-this!?”

The Evernight Demon King’s cultivation was extremely profound, so something that could even shock her like this had to be something terrifying.

But all of a sudden, her disbelief was replaced by a faint, dangerously cold smile, ”How should I explain this, or will they even believe me?”

The thing that even the First Corpse Commander failed to notice, but the Evernight Demon King didn’t, was that across the Undead Cradle, something subtle had changed.

This change, at first, was almost imperceptible, even an Abyssal King might’ve missed it, but the Evernight Demon King had a terrifying origin.

She noticed that the invisible veil that once covered everything, the Undead Boundary, abruptly began to waver and started to become weaker.

Just this much was enough to draw the Evernight Demon King’s scrutiny, and she was able to sense its presence, once absolute and untouchable, had started to thin like mist under a rising sun, while faint distortions appeared in the air, albeit barely noticeable, but real.

The first to see it clearly was her, and once she confirmed it, the Evernight Demon King’s eyes gleamed with sharp awareness.

She could finally feel the once unnoticeable Undead Boundary, which means the protection that once kept everything sealed, the barrier that separated this place from the outside, somehow...

”...is fading.” Her eerie smile widened, not with relief but with pure, unrestrained excitement and anticipation.

Because whatever had caused this was far beyond anything she had planned and far more interesting.

Without hesitation, the Evernight Demon King took out an ancient talisman and recorded everything she had witnessed, and sent it back to the Evernight Fiend King and Evernight Devil King.

’Knowing the Eldest Senior Brother, once he heard this, he would rush here, so I’ll only have a little time to actually figure out what had caused this.’

The Evernight Demon King’s eyes flashed with great desire as she glanced towards the altar she had been making.

”Well, I guess I don’t need to make it so carefully anymore, and this much should be sufficient now that the Undead Boundary seemed to be fading somehow.”

The next moment, she flickered her finger, and the massive brush turned into a streak and suddenly slashed down towards the Evernight Demon King’s finger.

The Evernight Demon King didn’t even bat an eye, and the next moment, a tiny droplet of dark crimson blood with a black hue left her finger and directly merged into the altar!
