Eternal Thief

Chapter 1579: Hunter’s Hunt! (3)

In a wondrous space that seemed beyond law and distance, as there was no sky, no ground, or no sense of direction, as if this space was made with a fragment of void itself.

Only an endless, inky abyss stretched in all directions, layered with drifting dark mist so dense it felt almost tangible, as if thought itself would sink and drown if it strayed too far.

This space did not exist within the Abyssal Plains, nor outside it, for it exists within the very heart of the Evernight Sanctuary!

At its center, three thrones hovered, colossal, ancient, and absolute, radiating overwhelming authority.

Moreover, three figures were sitting on these ancient thrones as they did not seem to rest upon anything but reigned, and apparently, they were, for with their exalted identity, only they were qualified to sit there in the entire Evernight Council!

One of the three thrones was forged from condensed abyssal darkness, layered like petrified night. Its surface constantly shifted between obsidian and shadow, as if reality itself could not decide what it was made of.

Infernal runes crawled across it slowly, pulsing in rhythm with the heartbeat of the realm, and seated upon it was the Evernight Devil King!

His form was exactly as he had manifested before the world; shrouded in living abyssal mist, his pale, inhuman face half-veiled by drifting darkness. Void-like eyes glinted with ancient intelligence and cold cruelty.

His black devil horns swept backward with regal menace, and above them hovered that thorned diadem, never touching, yet never drifting away. His presence alone crushed the space around him, making the abyss tremble in silent submission.

Beside the Evernight Devil King’s throne hovered another throne, smaller in size yet no less terrifying.

It was crafted from pristine white stone veined with flowing dark-crimson glyphs, each rune etched so deeply it seemed carved into space itself. The throne radiated contradiction between innocence and sovereignty, purity and annihilation.

Upon it sat the Evernight Demon King!

She appeared no older than a child, her frame small and delicate, clad in a simple yet regal robe that flowed like liquid silk.

Her skin was unnaturally white, flawless, yet alive with dark crimson runic markings that moved slowly across her body like living veins. Two demonic horns of the same bone-white hue rose from her head, engraved with identical glyphs.

Her eyes were completely pupil-less, pure white, empty, and utterly horrifying.

The Evernight Demon King seemed to be smiling faintly, making the space around her recoil as no aura leaked from her body, or no pressure announced her strength. Yet the space around her subtly distorted, as if terrified of what she might do if she so much as leaned forward.

The third throne was the most violent in design; forged from blackened metal and jagged infernal bone, it bristled with barbs, hooked edges, and fractured spikes that seemed designed not for comfort, but for domination. Flames crawled across its surface, not blazing, but smoldering in a deep, infernal crimson that refused to be extinguished.

Seated upon it was the Evernight Fiend King!

His body was tall and broad, layered in hardened flesh that looked more like armored plates than skin. His features were sharp, angular, and brutal, with serrated ridges along his jaw and temples.

His eyes burned with savage intelligence, glowing faintly as if embers were buried deep within his skull.

Curved horns swept forward from his head, ridged and cracked, as though they had been forged countless times in battle. A faint heat radiated from him constantly, warping the mist nearby into slow, writhing spirals.

Today, the three Evernight Kings of the Evernight Council have gathered, which was an extremely rare event, for unless the council itself was on the verge of being destroyed, they wouldn’t gather like this ever.

Furthermore, no one in the entire Evernight Sanctuary knew that the three Evernight Kings were awake and weren’t in seclusion, or this would’ve caused a huge stir, but no one was qualified to know, for three Evernight Kings will so.

Moreover, the reason behind their gathering in this ’secret’ location was none other than the new Evernight Trial

Between the three thrones, a projection screen hovered. It was not solid, nor entirely illusory. Made of condensed law and abyssal authority, it flickered with countless overlapping scenes.

One moment, it showed the view from the eyes of the Protector Envoys, gazing down as participants stepped through the Evernight Gate, their fates sealed the instant they crossed.

Another moment, it shifted to scenes of individuals undergoing assessment, lights probing their bodies, voices declaring their worth or doom with pitiless clarity.

Then, the projection fractured into dozens of windows, each filled with vast canyons of bones, storm-wracked plains soaked in old blood, ruined fortresses half-buried beneath ash and shadow, and participants scattered across the Hunter’s Hunt trial grounds!

But one projection among them continued to linger on a lone figure standing alone in the wasteland, looking at the crimson ring gleaming faintly on his hand, and all three of the Evernight Kings were looking at this lone figure with different expressions.

At this moment, the Evernight Fiend King let out a low, amused rumble as he growled softly, voice scraping like steel over stone, ”What a pleasant surprise; the disciple of that miscreant turned out to be my Abyssal Fiend Race’s child.

”But what a letdown, he’s from the Ash-flame Fiend Branch, not even a Hell Fiend. And here I was expecting something extraordinary from the Moonless Wandering King’s disciple. He’s mediocre at best!”

”Uncanny...” The Evernight Devil King muttered with eyes narrowed imperceptibly.

A hint of disbelief flickered in his devilish eyes, as he felt something was wrong because he had seen ’Nomad’ and even felt his presence that day. So, he was confident that he didn’t sense any bloodline of Abyssal Fiend Clan at all.

As the Evernight Devil King, he knew he couldn’t judge a little brat of the Abyssal Master Realm wrongly, yet the ’evaluation platform’ of the Evernight Sanctuary had proved him wrong!
