Starting as a Blind Beggar and Becoming a God

Chapter 66 The Lonely Old LadyChapter 66 The Lonely Old Lady

”Hey, young man, can you please give my son a message when you go to the Yuan Dynasty?” the old lady said hurriedly, fearing that Chen Huaian would leave the next moment.

”What did you say? I can find someone to convey it.” Chen Huaian said.

”My son said he has made great progress in Longchang County and has become an official. Can you tell him that I miss him?”

After Chen Huaian heard this, his brows never relaxed again.

”Okay, grandma, is there anything else you need to convey?”

”No more.” The old lady said with a smile. When she smiled, the wrinkles on her face became more obvious.

”Grandma, let me help you wash clothes.” Chen Huaian suddenly said. Although Lao Niu didn’t know what Chen Huaian was thinking, he supported Chen Huaian’s behavior.

”I’m so embarrassed.” said the old lady.

”It’s okay.” Chen Huai said as he took the clothes from the old lady and started washing them.

”When I was little, I often washed clothes for my son. This piece of clothing was also his, but he hadn’t been home for a long time. I saw that the clothes were covered with dust, so I wanted to wash them.”

The old lady suddenly said this, and Chen Huaian was not surprised. There were too few people here, and the old lady lacked someone to talk to.

Chen Huaian wanted to kill the Third Elder. The Third Elder was in the Yuntian Dynasty, and he would not run away, because if he ran out of the Yuntian Dynasty, no one would be able to protect him.

The dynasty represents the destiny of a country, and it is not easy for Shushan to take action. This is one of the reasons why the elders did not choose to hunt down and kill.

As for why he did not choose the Yuan Dynasty, only the Third Elder himself knew.

”I watched him leave that day. He said he would come to pick me up after he passed the imperial examination. I didn’t expect that he would be gone for decades.”

”Later I heard that he became an official. He didn’t come to pick me up. I thought he must have something important to do, so he couldn’t come to pick me up for a while.”

”My boy, you must eat well and dress warmly when you go out. I am very worried about my boy.”

”I don’t know if he eats on time, or if he has a wife and children.”

”I don’t know if I can see him give birth to a big fat baby in my lifetime, so that I can enjoy the joy of holding my grandson.”

As the old lady spoke, Chen Huaian washed clothes and listened quietly beside her.

”I was afraid he wouldn’t be able to find me, so I would bring a stool and sit at the door every day, waiting for him to pick me up.”

”My son said he would come to pick me up, and he would definitely come. He has never lied to me since he was a child.”

”He will definitely come to pick you up.” Chen Huaian said, but the rhythm of his rubbing the clothes was very orderly, and it was obvious that he said something against his will.

”Yeah, that kid of mine has never lied to me.”

”I believe in your son, too.” Chen Huaian said, but there was obviously less emotion in his words. Will the old lady’s son come to pick her up? Chen Huaian thought not.

Chen Huaian was somewhat glad that he stayed to help the old lady wash clothes. By doing so, the old lady would remember in her later years that there was a young man who talked to her.

”When my boy was little, he often pestered me for candy and would cry if I didn’t give him any. I still remember the way he cried.” The old lady was talking about her son in almost every sentence, as if it had become her language habit.

”Young man, you are so kind-hearted, you will definitely help me convey it,” asked the old lady.

”Will do.”

Chen Huaian knew that the old lady knew everything, she just didn’t want to believe it, otherwise, she wouldn’t have repeated, ”My kid never lied to me.”

Yes, the boy in her family had never lied to her, but this time was an exception.

”Grandma, the clothes are washed.” Chen Huaian said while wringing the clothes.

”It’s great to be young. You can finish washing so quickly.” The old lady praised.

”Let me hang it up for you.” Chen Huaian said, and he hung the clothes on the tree branch. The clothes were new, but the color had faded and the seams were loose. Obviously, the clothes had been washed many times. How could the clothes, which had been washed so many times, be covered with dust?
”Thank you, young man.” Chen Huaian said to the old lady after hanging up the clothes.

”It’s just a piece of cake.” Chen Huaian replied with a smile.

”Thank you for passing on the message. I don’t have anything to give you. How about I give you a piece of clothing?” the old lady asked, but Chen Huaian refused.

”Grandma, I have clothes. Thank you for your kindness.”

When the old lady saw Chen Huaian refused, she didn’t say anything more.

”I’m leaving, grandma, please take care of yourself.”

”Young man, walk slowly.” The old lady said with a smile, and the wrinkles on her face seemed... deeper.

Chen Huaian and Lao Niu walked away.

After Chen Huaian was sure that the old lady couldn’t see it, he told the old cow to stop.

”Stop, old cow.”

”Moo.” (What’s wrong?)

”Buried.”

The old cow was silent. It knew what Chen Huaian meant.

”Moo.” (A few days.)
”Five days at most.”

”Moo.” (I make the food, you make the coffin.)
”it is good.”

Chen Huaian did not leave during these days. Although Chen Huaian did not know why he said he would help the old lady wash clothes, he knew that it was from his heart.

If he hadn’t said this at the time, he might remember it for the rest of his life, and he would regret not saying it today, because it was not like him and was not in line with his heart.

It was because he saw the old lady’s temper while washing clothes that he realized that she didn’t have much time left.

Chen Huaian also hopes that the old lady’s son will show up in the next few days, but this hope is too slim.

These days, the old lady changed into clean clothes, and she seemed to know that she didn’t have much time left.

These days, she often brought her own small stool and sat at the door of her home, her cloudy eyes full of hope...

She gave birth to a son, but he left her alone until her death.

Finally, on the fourth night, the old lady passed away peacefully in her bed.

Chen Huaian appeared in the old lady’s house, ”A little earlier than I thought.”

Chen Huaian picked up a strand of the old lady’s hair in the house. He could use this strand of hair to find the old lady’s son.

The old lady did not say her son’s name. Perhaps she did not hope that Chen Huaian would find her son and pass on the message.

When the old lady passed away, her clothes were very clean. She was afraid that after she died, no one would give her clean clothes to wear. When she put on these clean clothes, she might have been quietly waiting for this moment to come.

Chen Huaian buried the old grandmother right where she often sat, a place full of hope for her.

She remembered that her son pestered her for candy when he was a child, but she was also the little girl who ran around the village asking for candy.

”I want to see who can ignore his elderly mother and let her die quietly at home. He is unworthy of being a son.”

”Moo.” (I’m going to gore him to death with my horns.)
Chen Huaian and Lao Niu are gone, and there is an unknown grave in front of this house...
