Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Job

With his alert expression, he couldn’t pretend that he had not noticed Ivy’s presence.

The moment he cleared all the zombies in the vicinity, he turned toward Ivy and gave her a gentle smile.

He still hasn’t forgotten about Ivy’s help. Though Ivy had given him a month’s worth of food, two weeks had already passed since then, and he was worried, seeing that the food was running out.

Hence, he had decided to venture today. He didn’t waste two weeks, though. Using his door as a safety measure, he learned the precise and effective method to kill zombies.

If the buffer of two weeks hadn’t been provided to him, god knows what his end might have been. He had strength and knew his capabilities, but zombie was a completely new concept for a person like him, who had hardly ever read any fictional novel or watched zombie movies.

Hence, using the buffer time, he quickly got familiar by reading about zombies and fighting them, helping him with leaps and bounds.

”Good afternoon, Ivy,” He greeted her, his features softened unconsciously.

”Good afternoon, Edward.” Ivy greeted her calm expression masking her inner thoughts, ”You are heading out to find supplies?”

Edward nodded, not hiding anything from Ivy; subconsciously, he trusted Ivy. Not only had he watched her grow up, but she had also returned the favor by helping him.

It was enough to make him lower his guard a little.

”But the supplies outside had long ago run out.” Ivy gently yet firmly broke Edward’s fantasies, making him stand rooted in his spot.

A hint of helplessness appeared in his eyes before he said tentatively, ”I still want to try my luck.”

His hopeful appearance didn’t betray Ivy who could see the desperation hidden beneath his calm exterior.

”I know Edward, what you are thinking, but it would be better if you return and train a bit more, awaken a superpower,” Ivy explained.

Edward pursed her lips before shaking his head, the calm facade cracking under Ivy’s piercing stare,

”I can’t... my food supplies will run out soon.” He decided to be upfront about it. His clenched fist displays his inner struggles.

”Oh? It just happened that someone had introduced a job to me, and since I am busy, I couldn’t do it. How about this... I will introduce them to you.” Ivy suggested.

Edward didn’t agree quickly; instead, he asked cautiously, ”What is the pay?”

If it were 4 grams of gold per month, he would consider; if it were 5 grams of gold, he would take up the job, and if it was above 5 grams of gold... he would right away apply for it.

At the same time, he was filled with resolve to repay Ivy with one of the month’s salaries for her repeated help.

First supplies and now job introduction... his heart was bursting with gratitude, and he felt indebted to Ivy even more.

”Since the job is a bit risky, the person is ready to pay 10kg of rice, 20kg of fish meat, and 10 packets of salt,” Ivy replied, a plan forming in her mind.

Edward blinked; it took him a lot of time to process Ivy’s words. What the heck? Just how dangerous the job was that the employer was ready to pay almost 20 grams of gold’s worth of food?

If Ivy knew Edward’s thoughts, she would have waved her hand. What are 20 grams of gold? For her, it wasn’t even a drop in the bucket. She could just multiply the rice and salt, while she has an abundance of aquatic animal meat.

”What type of job is it?” Edward asked cautiously, his heart was pounding, just 10kg of rice was enough to keep his daughter and himself not worrying about food for 2 months.

”You need to guard the land beside Elro Hills and inform the employer when Mayor Daniel arrives there. Since that area has certain Level-1 zombies... it would be difficult to stay unharmed.” Ivy explained.

Edward’s eyes, however, brightened. Though the job was indeed difficult, that was for an unawakened person...

His eyes sparkled as he looked at Ivy and said earnestly, ”Thank you so much, Ivy.”

[Ding! You have earned 200 KB! Current balance: 466.7]

Ivy was surprised by the amount of KB she had gotten: 200 KB! Thinking back... she had only gotten such a huge amount of KB the previous time.

Logically speaking, when she had first given a month’s worth of supplies to Edward, she should have received more KB at that time, but it was only now that she was receiving such a huge amount of KB...

Hm... maybe Edward realized the value of the supplies later, and hence his gratitude was much more intense this time. Ivy nodded at her theory.

”In fact, I have awakened a superpower.” Edward’s words broke Ivy’s train of thought, making her surprised.

”You have?” Ivy was curious; however, she didn’t dare to overstep the boundary. They weren’t close to the point that she could ask anything.

”I have psychic power,” Edward explained, his eyes brimming with excitement. Ivy froze. Psychic superpower?

It was one of the rare and most powerful superpowers; if cultivated properly, Edward could easily become a powerhouse in the future.

She became even more determined to recruit him to her base and said with a smile, ”Congratulations. Is it late for me to make connections now?”

Edward chuckled, but he replied with seriousness, ”You already have a connection with me. In the future, if you encounter any problem, please contact us. As long as I am alive, I will help you.”

Knowing Ivy doesn’t know the strings of events he explained,

”My daughter almost fainted from hunger. She is a type 1 diabetes patient. If it wasn’t for your timely help, my daughter might have...”

He didn’t finish, but Ivy knew the past events linked everything.

’Oh... so he is grateful because my supplies let him stay at home that day and inject his daughter with the insulin, saving her life and indirectly giving him the courage to continue to live.’
