Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 133: Chapter 133 Looks like we can’t wait any longer

Elder Master Ye patted Elder Zhang on the shoulder. ”My younger brother’s health isn’t good; he couldn’t come, so I’m here on his behalf to see you. Brother Zhang, you can’t pick on that.”

Upon hearing this, Elder Zhang responded, ”Hah, what are you talking about? I know about your brother’s health. Baoxiang mentioned it to our family when they went back last time. Take good care of him.”

Elder Master Ye nodded. ”Indeed, he can’t travel far and must avoid exhaustion. Now he just stays at home cultivating his mind and body.”

Elder Zhang sighed, ”We’re all getting on in years, tired from a lifetime of toil. If it’s not one ailment, it’s another discomfort. We’re old now.”

After some pleasantries and seeing it was getting late, they prepared to take their leave.

The ones who had been arguing had escalated to a physical fight, and the ward descended into chaos.

Elder Master Ye probably couldn’t stand it anymore. ”Lanlan, go break them up.”

Why call on the young girl? That’s because Ye Binglan grew up in a military courtyard and was incredibly skilled.

Ye Binglan, upon hearing her grandfather’s order, stepped in immediately and pulled the fighters apart. ”Stop it, all of you.”

The brawlers, separated, all turned to look at Ye Binglan. ”Who the hell are you, coming here to meddle in our business?”

Elder Master Ye stepped forward. ”You lot really are something. Even I, an outsider, can’t bear to listen to you anymore. Your parents raised the three of you brothers and two sisters with considerable care, and now that they’ve asked you to share some medical expenses, you’re unhappy.

”You all are parents yourselves, with your own children. Aren’t you afraid they’ll follow your example and treat you the same way one day?”

Seeing that they weren’t speaking, perhaps also afraid of causing trouble for the Zhang Family’s father and son, he softened his tone. ”A tree wishes to stay still, but the wind keeps blowing; a son wishes to provide care, but the parents won’t wait. Filial piety is of the greatest virtue. Think about it carefully.”

After speaking, he greeted the Zhang Family’s father and son and left.

Once outside, he said to Zhang Baosheng, who had come out to see them off, ”If that family is difficult to get along with, go find Vice President Zhang Chunsheng here. Let him help your father switch to a different ward.”

Zhang Baosheng waved it off. ”It’s nothing. That old man in the bed is talkative, and his sons aren’t too bad. It’s just those daughters-in-law who keep causing trouble.

”But I think they must have taken your words to heart just now.”

Elder Master Ye stopped. ”Alright, see us off to here. Take good care of your dad. If there’s anything you can’t handle, be sure to speak up. We have more people and thus more power; we can always help think of a solution.”

Zhang Baosheng nodded. ”I understand.”

He watched the Ye family members leave before turning back to the ward.

Just as Zhang Baosheng had said, the family stopped quarreling. In fact, the sons were all pretty good; it was the daughters-in-law who harbored some grievances and took this chance to make a scene.

Maybe they were scared by the ’follow your example’ phrase, as they had calmed down now.

Zhang Baosheng returned to the bedside and saw his father sitting there in a daze, frowning deeply enough to trap a mosquito. ”Dad, what’s wrong?”

When Elder Zhang heard his son’s voice, he replied, ”It’s nothing. I just feel like that Ye girl looked somewhat familiar.”

「Songling Village.」

After a busy day, Yunyi was finally able to return home.

Ever since she had started working at the village clinic, an increasing number of elderly people with health issues had sought her medical advice. This was after a few cases showed improved health following her treatments.

There was no other reason than the fact that some elderly people had been plagued with chronic illnesses, yet after her diagnosis and treatment, they actually felt much better.

Word spread, and those feeling under the weather all came to her for help.

Moreover, she knew how hard village life was. Therefore, she rarely prescribed medicine and treated most people with acupuncture, charging only one or Two Mao to make them feel better. As a result, the number of people seeking her out grew, including some from the surrounding villages who had heard of her skills.

Just as she locked the door and was about to head back, she saw Cheng Hongjun from the Zhiqing Point carrying someone toward her. ”Chu Zhiqing, don’t go just yet.”

It was only when he got closer that she could see the person on his back was Geng Erhong. ”What happened?”

Geng Erhong’s eyes were red. ”I sprained my foot.”

Yunyi quickly turned around to unlock the clinic door. ”How did it happen?”

Cheng Hongjun set Geng Erhong down on a chair and wiped the sweat off his brow. ”Chu Zhiqing, please check if she has hurt her bones.”

As Yunyi rolled up Geng Erhong’s trouser leg, she asked, ”What happened?”

Geng Erhong’s face was filled with grief and anger. ”I finished the fieldwork early today. Seeing that it was still early, I remembered what the aunties and older women I worked with had said: it gets very cold here in winter, and I should gather firewood early.

”So, I decided to go up the mountain to collect some. But I ran into Qiu Baolin and a few hoodlums from the next village. I originally thought if I didn’t provoke them, it would be fine. But to my surprise, they started chasing me, and I had to run back to the village to escape them.

”In my hurry, I didn’t expect to fall down the slope. They only ran away once they saw me fall.”

The more Yunyi heard, the grimmer her face became. With Qiu Baolin and those thugs from the next village together, they’re probably up to no good. It seems I can’t wait any longer.

She quickly examined Geng Erhong, who winced and yelped in pain. After confirming it was just a dislocation, she deliberately said, ”It’s nothing serious, just a sprain.”

Geng Erhong breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing there was nothing serious.

But just as she was starting to relax, Yunyi looked at her and then made a swift repositioning move with her hands. There was a CRACK.

Geng Erhong let out a HOWL.

Yunyi clapped her hands. ”All done. You won’t need any medicine. Just be careful for the next few days and try not to put too much weight on that foot.”

Geng Erhong hadn’t fully registered what happened. ”What? It’s healed? Just like that?”

Seeing her comical expression, Yunyi laughed. ”Yes, it’s healed. What, you don’t believe it?”

In her haste, Geng Erhong stood up. ”No, not that! Didn’t you just say I needed to take some medicine?”

Yunyi turned to wash her hands. ”Of course. That was to get you to relax and distract your attention.”

Cheng Hongjun, relieved to hear she was okay, added, ”Next time you go up the mountain to collect firewood or anything, don’t go alone, to avoid running into such troublemakers again.”

After drying her hands, Yunyi also poked Geng Erhong’s forehead. ”Didn’t I just warn you today not to go out alone? Did you just ignore my advice?”

Geng Erhong looked chagrined. ”I just thought it was still early, and plenty of children usually go up South Mountain to collect firewood. I didn’t think too much about it.”

Seeing her pitiful look, Yunyi didn’t want to say more. ”Just remember this in the future. Alright, off you go. Head back home.”

Geng Erhong looked at her foot and then tried stepping down hard. ”It really doesn’t hurt anymore! Yunyi, you’re amazing!”

Yunyi pushed her towards the door. ”Be careful these next two days. Try not to put too much strain on that foot.”

As they spoke and exited the village clinic, Yunyi, with her sharp eyesight, spotted some people hiding behind the Willow Tree but discreetly withdrew her gaze.
