Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 102: Chapter 102 Became the Talk of the Village After Dinner

Yunyi hadn’t expected patients to arrive so soon after she had just started her job.

She took the child from the young wife, ”Tell me about the child’s specific condition.”

With teary eyes, the young wife said, ”The child has phlegm in her throat. She can’t cough it up, and she can’t swallow it down. It has been like this for several days. When we first discovered it, we took her to the commune health center to see a doctor. The doctor prescribed some medicine, but it hasn’t helped at all...”

Before she could finish, a woman’s scolding voice came from outside, ”You shameless woman! I’ve told you, a mere girl doesn’t have a precious life. If her fate is strong, she’ll live. If it’s weak, just throw her into the mountains! Yet you insist on bringing her here, wasting good money. What are you plotting?”

Someone stopped the woman, asking, ”Auntie Xu, what happened?”

Outside the village health room, the woman slapped her thighs and complained, ”You have no idea! Our family married a troublemaker. We provide her with good food and drink. The old folks always say, ’first flowers, then fruit,’ and we didn’t say anything when she gave birth to a girl.

”But what child doesn’t get sick? A few days ago, the child had a bit of a cough. That troublemaker claimed the baby had phlegm stuck in her throat that she couldn’t cough up and insisted on seeing a doctor.

”I told them to wait for Doctor Gong to come back and take a look, but she couldn’t wait. She stirred up my Hai Quan to argue with me, making it seem like anyone in the family who tried to stop them was the villain.

”We had no choice but to give them money. The couple took the baby to the commune health center. After the money was spent, they finally quieted down. I really thought that would be the end of it.

”But to my surprise, today they’re causing trouble for money again! If we don’t give it, she’ll make Hai Quan raise hell with us. Just now, I heard the village health room opened, so that troublemaker rushed over with the child. She even said if we don’t give her money, to put it on an account and deduct it from the year-end earnings! It’s infuriating!”

The clamor outside irritated Yunyi. She stood up and went to the entrance of the health room, ”Stop shouting! And you call yourself the child’s grandmother? If the phlegm isn’t expelled soon, it could turn into pneumonia. The child will suffer, and you’ll have to spend even more money. If anything truly serious happens to the child, I’m afraid your son will become estranged from you.”

Yunyi’s words were quite blunt, but they effectively silenced the commotion outside.

Seeing they had quieted down, she returned to the health room. Without the nebulization treatments of later eras, and since medicine wasn’t working for the child, Tui Na massage was her only option.

She began with the Sifeng points on the child’s hands, then moved to the back. Finally, she had the child lie flat to massage the chest and neck.

Soon, a crowd gathered at the entrance of the health room, everyone staring at Yunyi’s movements. ”That child is so young. Is it really okay for her to press like that?”

”Didn’t you hear what Chu Zhiqing said? If the baby doesn’t get that phlegm out, she’ll suffer even more.”

”Old Mrs. Xu, you too! No matter what, that girl is the Xu Family’s first grandchild. You’re too heartless. No wonder Hai Quan is arguing with you.”

”What are you talking about? I’ve given them money before. This can’t be a bottomless pit, can it?”

”Alright, stop arguing. Don’t disturb Chu Zhiqing while she’s treating the child.”

Just then, Yunyi asked the young wife, ”Do you have a handkerchief?”

With red eyes, the young wife handed over half a towel, ”Will this work?”

Yunyi took it and gently turned the child’s face to the side. She then began massaging upwards from the chest, followed by the neck. After several repetitions, the phlegm accumulated in the child’s throat was expelled bit by bit.

Seeing this, the young wife choked up, ”It’s out! It’s out! My Yaya is saved! Thank you, thank you so much!”

At that moment, the people at the door squeezed in, exclaiming, ”She really cured the child!”

Treating illnesses was fine, but Yunyi wasn’t about to clean up the mess. ”There’s a basin and a rag over there. Get some water and clean this up.”

A woman standing nearby offered, ”Hai Quan’s wife, you go get the water and clean up. I’ll watch the baby for you.”

Zhai Zhili quickly thanked the woman and also took the half-towel that had been under the child. She had noticed Chu Zhiqing frowning earlier.

After fetching water, she quickly cleaned the treatment bed, paid the fifty-cent treatment fee, and asked for some care instructions. Then, after thanking Yunyi repeatedly, she left with her child in her arms.

In less than half a day, news that Yunyi had cured the Xu Family’s little girl spread everywhere.

Soon, she became the main topic of conversation in the village during their leisure time.

This wasn’t someone who merely ’knew a little’ about medicine; she was a true master who didn’t show off her skills! She could help Doctor Gong stop bleeding and set bones in critical situations, and now, with just a few manipulations, she had cured a small child whom even the doctors at the commune health center couldn’t treat.

Anyone with half a brain could see that her medical skills were truly exceptional.

Indeed, Widow Qiu and her son couldn’t sit still any longer. ”Son, this is even better! If you really marry her, won’t we be set for good days? This is an unexpected blessing!”

”Mother, don’t worry. Starting tomorrow, I’ll go over there. The village health room has people coming and going all day; everyone in the village is bound to see me.”
