Reborn as an Extra

Chapter 465: A New Era Begins.

All SS-rankers, including Raji, had a look of shock and doubt on their faces.

The scene in front of them was just too devastating; if not for their timely intervention, there would have been massive casualties.

”N-no... th-this... n-no... h-how... th-this... noo! No!”

Looking at that devastating scene of sheer destruction, Lia’s face became pale, and a look of disbelief appeared on her face.

The main reason why she didn’t want to leave this place and retreat was because she was worried about Rio’s safety; seeing such a scene caused her face to lose all color due to worry.

Even Link’s mouth was wide open as if he could not believe what had happened.

It’s not that the two of them think that Rio is weak; it’s just that the power of that explosion was just too strong for even an S-ranker to withstand it.

Moreover, in their opinion, Rio has only just reached rank S and isn’t even a peak S-ranker with powerful vitality.

Such a power explosion can easily kill any S rankers in an instant, making them worry for Rio’s safety.

Lia refused to believe her eyes; she didn’t even care about anything and rushed toward the giant crater overflowing with lava.

Tears appeared in her beautiful golden eyes as she rushed forward, but Raji maintained her calm and held down Lia.

”That lava is contaminated heavily with miasma and corruption; going near it is a death sentence for someone who’s not even an S-ranker...”

While speaking those words in a depressed and quiet tone, Raji embraced Lia in her arms and stopped her from moving, ignoring her struggles.

”No! No! I can’t! I must find him! H-he won’t die! No!”

Ryul and Syvis shook their heads and sighed in depression.

Other SS-rankers also had a solemn look on their face as they all flew toward the giant crater and used their sensing abilities to figure out the actual situation.

Lia kept struggling in Raji’s arms but couldn’t move; she fell down on her knees and started crying in despair as if she had lost all hope in her life.

Raji herself is cold by nature and doesn’t know how to console someone, so she couldn’t even provide any words of comfort; she could only bite her lips and stay silent.

Just when the situation was getting more and more depressing, the mana and miasma around the central area of the lava-covered crater moved.

As if a giant bubble were forming, a massive amount of lava rose in the air like a bubble before bursting with tremendous force.

A single person flew up into the sky, tearing right through tons of miasmic lava and liquid corruption.

It was none other than Rio.

The miasma and corruption in the surroundings did not affect him at all; he was fine even when standing right in the center of a massive amount of highly concentrated miasma.

Even SS-rankers might not be able to do something like this, but it was as simple as breathing for him.

Rio stood in the sky for a few seconds and took deep breaths to replenish his mana reserves.

Although he managed to survive that disaster, he wasn’t in good shape either.

His entire body was covered with severe burn marks, and his skin and muscles were peeling off of his bones due to severe damage.

His entire right arm was charred black and was bent at a weird angle, his face was half burnt, and his tongue and gums had become visible from that side as his entire cheek was burnt off.

The weird skull that Riko gave him before she ’self-detonated’ herself was nowhere to be seen, as it had shattered and turned to dust completely.

But Rio noticed that some kind of memory flowed from that skull and entered his mind before it got destroyed.

Rio didn’t even have the strength to keep floating in air, so he didn’t have the time to properly figure out what that memory was.

His already weakened sword intent sensed Lia’s presence in the distance, and he didn’t even care about his appearance as he flew towards her with full strength.

His tattered clothes swayed in the air, but he didn’t care.

At that point, his sword intent was also at its limit; he couldn’t even see properly, as even his eyesight got damaged from that powerful explosion.

He had to rely on his instincts and sword intent to barely sense the surroundings and make his way forward.

Rio crossed the entire crater filled with miasma, which even SS-rankers were hesitating to come close to, and arrived near Lia and the others in a few seconds.

The moment he reached that place, he lost consciousness and started falling towards the ground.

Lia immediately sensed his presence from far away and stopped crying; she instantly broke away from Raji’s arms.

Raji didn’t stop her anymore, as she was also taken aback by the fact that Rio managed to survive such a powerful explosion despite being only an S-ranker.

Ignoring others’ shock, Lia dashed to Rio side and caught him in mid-air, preventing him from falling.

Syvis also reacted at that moment and immediately rushed over to heal Rio.

Lia embraced Rio in her arms as she cried out in relief.

”Thank god! You are alive! N-no I knew you would be alive! H-how can you die so suddenly! I was an idiot to even be worried!”

”Thanks for being alive!... Don’t scare me like that... i-I can’t live without you... you idiot!”

Despite her being happy and relieved, tears didn’t stop as she hugged Rio’s half-burnt body tightly as Syvis poured immense amounts of healing magic into his body to heal Rio.

As Rio’s sword intent was now in an extremely weakened state and Lia was hugging him tightly, his resistance weakened; thus, the healing magic from Syvis became extremely effective.

Raji, Ryul, and even Link came over at that moment, and everyone had a look of relief on their faces.

They were all happy and relieved that Rio survived somehow; it would have been a tragedy if he didn’t.

...

Demon Continent.

Somewhere in a hidden castle.

A beautiful woman was standing on a wide balcony, looking at the stars occasionally visible in the dark sky of the demon continent.

Her pink hair swayed with the gentle cold breeze, and her fox ears were constantly moving to show her anxious emotions.

Her beautiful face was filled with worry and anxiousness.

Just when she was getting more and more worried, the spherical gem resting on the palm of her hand suddenly shattered into pieces and turned into flying dust.

The entire planet suddenly trembled slightly, and she felt an extremely powerful aura appear in the distance.

It was the demon king stabilizing the demon continent and preventing it from destruction, but that wasn’t what Aurora cared about.

Her eyes widened in despair as she stared at her empty palm; tears appeared in her beautiful eyes, and she fell to her knees and started weeping in despair.

She knew what it meant for that gem to shatter; it meant that Alverto had died.

Before Aurora could comprehend the situation completely, she suddenly felt the side effects of corruption on her disappear.

All of the miasma stored in her body suddenly started to escape her body, and all the accumulated corruption in her body disappeared unexpectedly.

Noticing this change, Aurora cried even more sadly.

”Why... why did you have to go to such lengths... I would have been fine just as I was... I just wanted you to achieve greatness, not such a tragic outcome...”

Aurora knew what Alverto had done; even though he died and likely failed in his mission of creating a ’new path,’ he still managed to do one final thing.

He had already told Aurora that if all went south, he would reset his wishes, and in his last moments, he would use whatever power he had from the Spire of Ascension to create a ’future’ for at least ’her’ alone.

Alverto wanted a better ’future’ for his entire race, but if he can’t create such a thing, he promised to at least do it for the woman he loved so dearly.

Before the spire of ascension exploded, he managed to trick Rio and trigger the altar, even if for a few seconds.

Those few seconds were enough.

Even in death, Alverto managed to give ’Freedom’ to the one he cared for; he was without a doubt a great ’Hero.’

Others may despise him, they might hate him, and they might want to kill him, but no one can laugh at his noble ’Path.’

Alverto lived as a ’hero’ and died as a ’hero’; his shattered soul didn’t fall in the sea of miasma like other demons, it received the ’acknowledgement’ of the ’world’ and got a new ’chance.’

...

The spire of ascension completely shattered and disappeared from the world, leaving behind a massive trail of destruction.

Some remained happy as their loved ones survived, but some became filled with despair and sadness as those close to them died untimely deaths.

This disaster robbed many and left a massive scar behind on the world.

The explosion created a crater that remained filled with highly dense miasma, corruption, and lava, and the air around it became highly toxic as well.

Even SS-rankers hesitated from getting too close to it, so they set up a powerful barrier around the area and put a few SS-rankers on duty before taking their leave.

All of them had to go back and deal with the damage that had happened in their hometown, so they could not stay here for too long and waste time.

Although the disaster was suppressed with the help of many SS-rankers, there were still thousands of people dead from small-scale natural disasters that originated from this one explosion.

In the future, this massive disaster, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and led to the human empire losing three SS-rankers simultaneously, will be known as ’The Chronos Incident.’

History books will describe this disaster as a ’beginning’ of an era of ’chaos’ and ’disasters’; people will consider this moment as a dark era for all creatures.

But as they say, tough times create new ’heroes.’

The era of previous ’heroes’ ended with the gigantic explosion as Jin, Neo, and even Ashtel, who were revered as popular ’demi-gods’ and ’heroes’ by many, were forced out of the spotlight.

The era of Ashtel being the strongest finally came to an end, but with this new era the rise of the new ’strongest’ has also arrived.

To battle new challenges that the previous generation could not deal with, new challengers must rise, and this day marked the beginning of such an era.

*The Era of the Great ’Anomaly’ Begins!*
