Chapter 462: A ’Clash’ of Different ’Ideologies’. Part-2.

[Sword Intent!]

[Elemental Sword Art: Thunder Type: Golden flow!]

Golden thunder flowed in Rio’s sword as smooth as water. Normally thunder won’t move in such a manner, but Rio’s insane mastery over ’sword intent’ and his elemental sword art made this possible.

He swung his sword toward Alverto in an upward diagonal motion with such speed that it gave a sensation of ’Death’ to Alverto.

After reaching S-rank and breaking the ’limiter’ on his body, Rio has become much stronger than he already was.

He could already fight peak S-rankers before; now it won’t be wrong to say that killing a peak S-ranker isn’t that big of a deal for him anymore.

This is the horror of a sword aptitude at the ’Limitless’ level. In the same rank, he’s almost invincible.

[Forbidden Demon Magic: Soul Type: Titan body!]

Alverto already knew that he can’t keep up with the current Rio and might get fatal injuries in just a few attacks.

To keep up with Rio’s increased speed and strength, he had no other choice but to grit his teeth and burn his own ’soul’ once again to forcefully enhance his body to a higher level.

Alverto barely managed to raise his spear in defense due to the increase in speed, but before he could assume a proper stance, Rio’s sword struck him with tremendous force.

He barely managed to block the attack with his spear, but that was all he could do.

The thunder flowing on Rio’s sword forcefully interfered with his mana, and the moment the weapons touched, it flowed into his spear, causing him to receive a powerful thunder shock.

The impact from that attack alone was so strong that Alverto flew away like a cannonball and slammed into the distant wall of the giant hall.

*Cough!**Cough!*

Due to the powerful impact and the combined thunder attack, Alverto received tremendous damage and coughed a mouthful of blood as he kneeled down on the ground.

He raised his head with great difficulty and saw Rio standing just a few meters away from him.

”How long are you going to stay on your knees? Is that all your ambition and so-called new ’path’s worth?”

Rio didn’t attack Alverto when he was down.

If it was a normal battle, Rio would have definitely not stopped his attacks; he would have continued his attacks without giving the opponent even a second to breathe.

Doing thousands of fast attacks with tremendous speed and force is Rio’s specialty after all.

But this isn’t a battle; it’s a ’clash’ of two different ’ideologies.’

Rio thinks that sacrificing nearly the entire world just to create a better future for the rest of the surviving people isn’t a good idea.

Alverto on the other hand, thinks completely opposite.

”Your ambition is way too big, isn’t it... I am surprised by the fact that you haven’t been defeated by anyone yet...”

”Well, you actually didn’t fight a head-on battle most of the time and teleported away mostly... Moreover, a legendary technique like ’Soul Resonance’ gave you the edge...”

If it was literally any other opponent, Alverto wouldn’t have had such a hard time fighting them.

It’s his misfortune that he has to fight that one person who’s immune to miasmic corruption, immune to soul attacks created with ’Soul Resonance,’ and immune to any forms of deception.

Alverto lost most of his advantages the moment he had to fight Rio, and once Rio became an S-ranker, it was already a dead end.

’If it’s the current me... I think I can indeed stall a weak SS-ranker like Jin...’

Jin only ascended by pure chance and hasn’t even mastered his ’world authority’; moreover, he doesn’t have any legendary skills, thus it won’t be strange if the current Rio can fight him for a while.

’The difference of stats has long been covered by my sword body and sword heart; now that I have ascended to S-rank, my stats are already equal to an early SS-ranker like Jin...’

’No wonder Alverto seems so much weaker now...’

Back in Oaklum, Alverto was so much stronger than him; he defeated Rio easily back then and even killed his friend right in front of him.

Today, things have changed, and now Rio won’t have to worry about his friend’s safety anymore.

As long as it’s not an SS-ranker, Rio can deal with most threats in this world now; he finally has some acceptable level of power to protect himself now.

”You are way too bizarre... cough!... back then, I wanted to kill you all when I still had the chance...”

”For some bizarre reason my instincts told me not to entangle with you lot too much back then... ugh... cough!! In fact, I can feel that same feeling even now...”

Alverto gritted his teeth and stood up unsteadily as his eyes became bloodshot and he coughed up more blood.

Rio didn’t even give him a chance to move; the moment he stood up, Rio attacked again.

[Sword Intent!]

[Elemental Sword Art: Stone Type: Meteor impact!]

Rio shape-shifted his sword into a broadsword and swung it horizontally towards Alverto, hitting him with its broad, blunt blade.

This type of sword can’t cut, as it’s blunt; its main damage comes from a powerful physical impact.

Alverto flew away like an arrow once again.

The sheer impact of that attack created a powerful shockwave, and the ground cracked from the air pressure in an instant.

Once again Alverto collided with a wall far away, and Rio stood near him.

”A bizarre feeling of danger, you say?... I have no idea what you are talking about... this is the first time I heard about it...”

Alverto left hand was already broken and bent in a weird way; all the bones on the left side of his body were shattered from the impact of that attack, and he was bleeding all over.

He was barely hanging on to his consciousness at this point.

Rio stared into his half-closed eyes and spoke calmly.

”I myself know that your idea is indeed valid; it might really make the world a better place for the remaining few people...”

”But you are planning to sacrifice too many people... the selection will be random and I don’t want those who I care for to die a random death like that...”

Rio might have agreed to Alverto’s ’Plan’ if the number of sacrifices needed was less, as he’s not a hero either and doesn’t have an obligation to keep everyone safe.

But he can’t accept such wide-scale destruction; it will ultimately affect his own life if such a big sacrifice is made to alter the natural order of this world.

’I instinctively feel that if Alverto’s plan succeeds, the world will be changed into something completely different and I don’t know what unknown side-effects there will be then...’

Nothing is ’Absolutely Perfect’ in this world; even if Alverto alters the natural order of the world to make it better, that won’t mean all other problems will also disappear.

After the threat of demons is eliminated, perhaps some other problem will be created later.

Moreover, Miasma won’t just sit around and just see everything get better.

If demons stopped suffering from the ’Law’ of ’Miasma,’ the ’Law’ of ’Miasma’ would also likely change and would create new troubles.

Alverto’s plan is just a temporary relief from the current situation.

Perhaps Alverto is hoping for a better outcome, or perhaps he’s thinking that there might be a way to solve anything that appears later, but Rio doesn’t want to take such a risk.

Most of the world and its creatures are more or less adapted to the current environment and know what threats they have to deal with.

Even if demons are always creating havoc, most creatures have already adapted to them too, but if a new unknown threat appears, everyone will have more trouble than now.

”I firmly believe that your idea is very impractical; prove to me that your idea has some worth to it... Show me what value the ’future’ you see has.”

Rio spoke those words from the heart; he wanted to ask why Alverto was so hell-bent on completing this plan and why he was so obsessed over such an impractical plan.

He didn’t want to end this ’clash’ so early by ending Alverto’s life then and there.

”I just...”

Alverto started to lose focus as he heard Rio’s words, and his tone became extremely sad as he continued to speak with great difficulty.

”I just want her to continue ’smiling’... All I want is a better future for her and my people...”

A look of determination returned to Alverto’s eyes as the face of a certain demon girl flashed in his mind.

”All I wish is for her to keep ’Smiling’... I will not lose... never... NEVER!!!!”

[Forbidden Demon Art: Cosmic Mutation: Void Assimilation!]

At that moment, Alverto lost his sanity to miasmic corruption as he finally let go of all shackles; to attain more power, he sacrificed his entire being.

He used the power ’granted’ by ’that being’ hidden in his body to make a final effort.

But before his sanity left him, one final thought came to his mind as he remembered the face of the woman he loved so much.

’Forgive me, Aurora... I will be going to afterlife ahead of you... I wish you a better future...’

*Crack* *Crack*

As if Alverto’s sea of consciousness was shattered, he lost his ’mind’ and ’soul,’ and his body started to crack up as massive amounts of miasma and corruption flowed in his veins.

His body mutated uncontrollably, and his handsome face disappeared as it melted away in miasmic corruption.

He mutated and became a mindless giant demon consumed with violence and bloodlust with no sanity left.

At that point, Alverto Chronosperdere, the demon prince who hoped for a better future, who became a ’hero’ for his race, died an unfortunate death.

Rio sighed at that moment and pointed his sword at the mutating demon.

”You lost Alverto... you lost in the ’clash’ of ’ideals’... I will not let your plan succeed anymore...”
