Beast Taming: the More the Better

Chapter 84: Chapter 84 Origami Man Record Activated, Evolution Imminent?

On this Catalog entry, it was identical to the previous ones for the Forest Wolf and Luozisong, except that against the overall gray-white background, there was this similarly gray-white Paperman.

However, the Paperman depicted was in the common form of a paper figure; its pale paper body, coupled with the chilling atmosphere, made it seem more like a quintessential Paperman.

In contrast, the little Paperman, with a folded conical hat on its head and dressed as a Swordsman, didn’t evoke this sense of cold terror. Instead, it possessed an indescribable cuteness stemming from this very contrast.

But Su Ping wasn’t concerned with these details right now. The goal he had striven for over many days was finally achieved, and he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Subsequently, his attention slowly focused on the Myriad Spirit Beast Atlas.

Sure enough, as soon as the Paperman’s Catalog entry fully lit up, the following information appeared piece by piece:

[Catalog ’Paperman’ illuminated. Current Catalog Level: 1. Origin Reward: Rapid Recovery.]

[Rapid Recovery (Beast Tamer Ability): Expends spiritual power to quickly restore the injuries, Energy, and stamina of Pet Beasts within the Beast Taming Space.]

Indeed, this didn’t surprise Su Ping in the slightest.

The reward for illuminating the Paperman’s Catalog entry to Lv. 1 was, as expected, another Beast Tamer Talent.

Truth be told, just based on these Talents alone, Su Ping had already far surpassed other Beast Tamers.

Others might have only one Beast Tamer Talent, but Su Ping now possessed a full four.

Apart from Pet Beast Home, Su Ping now finally possessed all three of what were known as the three great basic Beast Tamer Talents!

Although such low-level Beast Tamer Talents didn’t provide a significant boost, it was, as they say, better to have them than not.

Take the current situation, for example. Previously, restoring the little Paperman’s energy and stamina would have required healing Magic Potions and other resources. But now, with the Talents of Pet Beast Home and Rapid Recovery, Su Ping could bring the little Paperman into the Beast Taming Space and use Rapid Recovery, saving some of those costs.

Of course, that was about the extent of it. Although Rapid Recovery could heal some injuries, it was limited to minor surface wounds. Severed limbs or severe internal injuries still required high-level healing-type Pet Beasts.

However, Su Ping was neither discouraged nor disappointed. On the contrary, he was quite looking forward to what might come next.

Now that he has acquired what are called the three fundamental Beast Tamer Talents, is it possible that illuminating new Catalog entries will grant him other Talents?

Other Talents were one thing. However, abilities like Zhou Shuchen’s Fire Element Affinity were powerful Talents capable of permanently enhancing a Pet Beast’s combat capabilities. Otherwise, Zhou Shuchen, who had always felt inferior, wouldn’t have become so arrogant after contracting the Crimson Fang Tiger. Such a Talent naturally made one material for a professional combat-type Beast Tamer.

He just wasn’t sure if, as he suspected, every new Pet Beast Catalog entry he illuminated would allow him to comprehend a new Talent.

However, if that were the case, with the unimaginable number of basic Pet Beast types, wouldn’t his future Talents also be unimaginable?

Although it felt unlikely, Su Ping couldn’t help but harbor fond hopes for such a future prospect.

Of course, thoughts aside, Su Ping quickly turned his attention to the Paperman’s Catalog entry that had just illuminated:

[Catalog: Paperman]

[A special low-level Necromancy Series Pet Beast with a frail body and strong malleability. It seems to possess quite impressive potential, though it requires specific development! Racial Skills: Paper Body Folding, Paper Body Joint, etc.]

[Current Catalog Level: 1 (352/500)]

Known Evolutionary Pathways, Special Cultivation:

[Secret Method for Cultivating Accelerated Casting: Can cultivate the skill ’Accelerated Spellcasting’.]

Preferences, Habits:

[Prefers cool, shaded places. Enjoys eating paper-based food.]

Recording Log:

[Discovered and made contact with a special variant Paperman; intimacy requirement met. Catalog Experience +352!]

[Subsequently, for each day spent with it, Catalog Experience +5! Each day spent together offers a chance to discover the reason for the special mutation. Alternatively, a certain amount of this Catalog’s Experience can be consumed to analyze the reason for the mutation.]

[Obtain Catalog Experience daily based on the number of creatures of this type cohabited with, their Level, and by enhancing the abilities of creatures whose intimacy meets the standard. This also serves to complete the Catalog and raise its Level.]

Looking at this Catalog entry for the Paperman, Su Ping’s brow furrowed slightly.

He looked again at the little Paperman before him.

In fact, he wasn’t the least bit interested in the reasons for the little Paperman’s mutation. Because Su Ping knew that, compared to Xiao Qing, the reasons for the little Paperman’s mutation probably weren’t that hard to guess, but they were definitely difficult to replicate! The little Paperman’s mutation was definitely linked in some unimaginable way to that Secret Realm. And who knew if such an opportunity still existed within that Secret Realm! That particular Sword Soul Mark alone was already puzzling enough for him.

The reason for his frown was another matter entirely.

This Paperman’s Racial Skill... there’s another one? Paper Body Folding allows it to freely transform its body shape; if Su Ping had such a paper Pet Beast, he could even fold it into the shape of a paper airplane. And this Paper Body Joint?

His understanding of the Paperman species as Pet Beasts was really not too extensive.

However, the little Paperman’s connection to this Secret Realm had given Su Ping some ideas, and through their interaction over this period, Su Ping had genuinely grown fond of the little Paperman.

Since that was the case, Su Ping needed to start planning early.

Compared to the Forest Wolf, Su Ping’s knowledge of the Paperman was far too limited. This wasn’t just in terms of Skill effects and corresponding Cultivation, but more importantly, its potential for future Evolution. In this regard, Su Ping needed to prepare well in advance.

Speaking of which, a few days ago, he had asked Sun Chaoju if there was an Intermediate Level Breeder in Linzhou City specializing in Papermen. However, he had been so busy recently with Old Sha’s evolution to the Third Rank that he hadn’t found the time to ask again. He needed to find time to inquire once more, but now was clearly not the right moment.

Currently, Old Sha was in the mid-to-late phase of the Third Rank, and Photosynthesis had even advanced to Mastery Level, just one step away from reaching Perfection Level. Once Perfection Level was reached, Old Sha’s energy accumulation would allow it to begin evolving.

During this phase, let alone being distracted by consulting other Breeders about the cultivation and evolution of other Pet Beasts, Su Ping wouldn’t even want to leave Heart of Woods if possible.

As it turned out, Su Ping’s perseverance was crucial. After another five full days, he finally perceived, with Old Sha’s feedback, that Photosynthesis had reached the peak of Mastery Level. With just a little more effort, it could cross the threshold into Perfection Level!

In other words, Old Sha had reached the point where evolution was imminent!
