Chapter 327 Night Attack

At night, torches on Changfeng City’s walls burned, illuminating the patrolling soldiers. As a large city with over ten million people, Changfeng City was one of the 62 large cities in the Great Zhou Dynasty (plus Sword Sovereign City). Changfeng City was naturally prosperous, so the security was very tight.

“My lord.”

“My lord.”

The soldiers bowed respectfully to an elderly patrolling guard.

The white-haired elder stopped and stood at the city wall, looking at the dark sky.

Boom! The white-haired elder let out a soft grunt. An invisible Quintessential Essence fluctuation spread out in all directions with him at the center. In the blink of an eye, it covered a distance of ten kilometers.

No demons within ten kilometers. The elder nodded slightly.

Changfeng City had many defensive systems. Godfiend reconnaissance was only one of them. This elder was a Great Solar Godfiend. With a thought, he could probe a radius of ten kilometers! Of course, underground reconnaissance wasn’t his forte. Back then, Fairy Meng was a Godfiend that was skilled at reconnaissance. She could probe a five-kilometer radius with a thought.

Many Godfiends patrolled the city walls.

In Changfeng City, Liu Qiyue and Marchioness Plum Snow were the strongest Godfiends, and a group of ordinary Godfiends supported them. Most of the ordinary Godfiends were outer sect disciples of Archean Mountain. Very few were inner sect disciples.

“We’ve been waiting here for more than two hours. When do we attack?” Three demon monarchs were hiding four kilometers away from the city and half a kilometer underground. “We just have to heed our orders. Once the higher-ups give the order, we’ll attack. If there are no orders, just wait.”

“Just wait. You’ll just be sending yourself to be killed if you charge in alone.”

The three demon monarchs were chatting.

“How many demon monarchs do you think we sent this time? The three of us came from different places and happened to bump into each other here.”

“There will definitely be a lot.”

Huh?

The three demon monarchs felt their tokens burning; they quickly took their tokens out.

“Orders are here.” The three demon monarchs exchanged looks and didn’t hesitate to charge upwards.

At that moment, many demon monarchs flew out of the ground. They were all varying distances away from Changfeng City’s four walls. The demon monarchs didn’t hide their demonic powers as they charged at Changfeng City at full speed.

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!

Inside a seemingly ordinary residence near one of Changfeng City’s walls was a ten-foot-tall, black-green, pagoda-shaped building. Ten guards were inside this building. The leader of this group was a Godfiend. This building was the mysterious Demon Seeking Pagoda. The Demon Seeking Pagoda was extremely sensitive towards demonic powers. Just a sliver of released demonic power would be sensed from 50 kilometers away. Furthermore, it could sense demonic powers up to 2.5 kilometers underground. However, the Demon Seeking Pagoda wasn’t mobile and wasn’t easily built.

Changfeng City had a total of 12 Demon Seeking Pagodas. Six of them were 2.5 kilometers underground to prevent demon monarchs from carrying out underground sneak attacks.

“Demon monarchs.” The mortal guards’ expressions changed drastically.

“Demon monarchs are attacking from outside the city. There’s plenty of them!” The commanding Godfiend’s expression was ugly. “They aren’t even hiding. I can sense more than 300 demon monarchs outside the eastern city wall.”

At this moment, Godfiends appeared on the four walls. They looked out of the city.

“Demon monarchs.”

“The demon monarchs are here.”

The Godfiends could barely see demon monarchs charging over in the dark. All of them had solemn expressions.

Like wildfire, the Skydemon Sect had deliberately spread the news that one million demon monarchs were entering the human world. Every city was prepared to be attacked by hordes of demon monarchs.

Late at night, Meng Chuan continued practicing his saber arts in the courtyard. His senses were sharp. Even though he was in the middle of the city, he could still sense the dense demonic auras outside the city walls.

Oh? Meng Chuan’s heart tightened. Are the demon monarchs’ attacks on large cities finally here again? Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Three figures soared into the sky. They were Meng Chuan, Liu Qiyue, and Marchioness Plum Snow.

“Same old plan,” said Meng Chuan via voice transmission.

“Alright.” Liu Qiyue nodded. “There are a total of 3,000 demon monarchs coming from all directions. We have to block them,” said Marchioness Plum Snow via voice transmission.

“I’ll leave the southern and western walls to you. Leave the rest to me.” Meng Chuan had already transformed into a bolt of lightning and left.

Liu Qiyue and Marchioness Plum Snow exchanged looks and nodded slightly. They soared into the sky and flew into the distance. Wisps of Darkstar Quintessential Essence spread in all directions.

Swoosh.

As a bolt of lightning, Meng Chuan’s figure snaked through the void. He flashed twice in the void before stopping. He looked at the 800 demon monarchs that were scattered outside the eastern city wall and released Quintessential Essence threads.

Chi! Chi! Chi!

Wisps of Darkstar Quintessential Essence flew in all directions in the darkness. Quintessential Essence threads killed the demon monarchs!

An Indestructible Godfiend could send Quintessential Essence threads in a five-kilometer radius. Fairy Meng could prove a five-kilometer radius thanks to her Quintessential essence. Great Solar Godfiends could typically spread their Quintessential Essence in a ten-kilometer radius. Marquis Godfiends’ Quintessential Essence could spread across a 25-kilometer radius. Regis Godfiends’ Quintessential Essence could spread across a 50-kilometer radius! Of course, this was for average Godfiends.

For example, King True Martial—who had a fifth-level Essence Soul. His Quintessential Essence could fuse with the Power of True Martial, allowing him his Quintessential Essence to spread across a 75-kilometer radius.

A Quintessential essence thread could only detect the area where it passed by. Fairy Meng had purposely cultivated a reconnaissance spell so that she could probe a five-kilometer radius with just a thought.

Chi! Chi! Chi!

More than 1,000 Darkstar Quintessential Essence threads advanced at high speeds in the void. The Quintessential Essence threads were even faster than Meng Chuan! They were prepared to attack a number of demon monarchs. Meng Chuan could only release Quintessential Essence threads in a 30-kilometer radius. The demon monarchs were spread out across 50 kilometers, limiting the number of demon monarchs that Meng Chuan could kill with Quintessential Essence threads.

“Marquis Godfiend’s Quintessential Essence threads.” A rat demon elder—who was charging ahead—could immediately sense the Quintessential Essence threads attacking him with his domain. He immediately crushed the token in his hand.

More than 500 demon monarch tokens-763 demon monarchs were attacking the east wall -turned cold.

“Retreat.”

“Retreat.”

The 500-plus demon monarchs didn’t hesitate to burrow into the ground and flee. However, Meng Chuan’s Quintessential Essence threads were too fast. They pierced through the demon monarchs’ heads one after another, killing over 100 demon monarchs.

Over 300 demon monarchs had successfully fled while over 100 had died. The remaining 200-plus demon monarchs continued charging forward bravely. Quintessential Essence threads attacked them, but the demon monarchs resisted. Some demon monarchs used their bodies to take the brunt of the attack.

Chi! Chi!The Quintessential Essence threads stabbed into an ox demon monarch’s head. It barely managed to tear through the hide, but it was unable to penetrate past it.

“A Marquis Godfiend’s Quintessential Essence is very ordinary when it comes to attacking enemies from afar.”

“Why do I need to fear when they’re a few dozen kilometers away from me?”

The demon monarchs charged forward ferociously.

Meng Chuan’s expression turned ugly. Humans had defensive means, but the demons had ways to deal with them.

Quintessential Essence threads were a long-range attack that almost all Godfiends could use, but they were weak! If they were within his Darkstar domain, Meng Chuan’s Quintessential Essence threads could easily kill third Firmament demon monarchs. However, he could only kill second Firmament demon monarchs and third Firmament demon monarchs that had weaker bodies when they were beyond his domain.

Even an ordinary third Firmament demon monarch could withstand a Marquis Godfiend’s Quintessential Essence threads.

Marquis Godfiend Quintessential Essence threads can kill second Firmaments from afar, but the threat they pose to third Firmament demon monarchs is very low. Changfeng City has me. What about the other large cities? How can a Marquis Godfiend defend a city against 3,000 demon monarchs?
