Chapter 681 681: Birth of a Great Calamity (1)

The sky was bathed in flames, and at the center was a large cocoon, too vast to comprehend.

But within the cocoon is a phoenix destined to be born a great Calamity—now being birthed as a true Calamity.

However, instead of a true calamity destined to destroy everything, a tamed one is being born.

One that now holds even greater potential to rise beyond the sorry fate the heavens had planned for her.

She is now part of a Paragon, and with the Star Monarch blood running through her veins, the heavens have lost both a weapon and a chance to stop another Paragon from rising.

A true Calamity is being born, and this time, it is beyond the jurisdiction of the heavens. This time, she stands under her own authority—an authority of a great Calamity, the Red Death Phoenix.

Around it, ancient runes glowed—runes that only Klaus could read.

Naturally, he wouldnʼt deny the ladies such poetry. He cleared his throat and started to read the runes.

Rise, Red Death Phoenix

Bathed in fire, the heavens weep,

A star-born fate, now hers to keep.

Bound by chains of cosmic thread,

Yet rising where the doomed once bled.

A Calamity, fierce and tamed,

By fateʼs own hand, yet unclaimed.

No gods shall shape, no stars confine,

For now, her will is hers, divine.

Wings unfurl, a burning creed,

Ash to ember, fate concedes.

The heavens tremble, voids take heed,

A Paragonʼs blood—her only need.

No whispered law, no tethered sky,

No blade to break, no gods to pry.

In runes of old, her name is sworn,

The Red Death Phoenix—reborn.

The moment Klaus said the last line, the flaming cloud rumbled, and the egg—or cocoon—cracked. The crack ran across its surface for a few seconds before coming to a stop.

Klaus gestured for everyone to move back.

Right when they did, the egg exploded into flames that bathed the moon in a red radiance. In fact, Klaus could hear and feel some stronger Lunar Beasts approaching.

But as expected, when they got within a certain range, they all stopped, for none of them could come any closer.

In fact, Klaus had to encase himself and the ladies in the Bed of Harrows and unleash the Immortal Ice, which calmed and cooled them down.

This was the only way for them to remain still and watch Nariʼs awakening.

”What is happening?” Queenie asked, panicking inwardly, for she knew this was Nariʼs life on the line.

Klaus held her hand and smiled. ”She is fine, so relax and wait for when she is done with whatever she is doing there.” Klaus could already sense her.

His blood was now running through her veins so he could sense her. This means she has awakened and is now whole.

But from the explosions coming from the flame clouds, he knew she was fighting against something. Though they couldnʼt see it, they could feel the shockwaves.

Klaus, however, was okay with letting her deal with whatever she was facing. She could tell the Nari, who faced the tribulation, was not going to let anything happen to Klaus.

Inside the flaming clouds, which looked like a separate space of their own, Nari and a figure who appeared human but had one horn on her forehead were engaged in fierce combat.

Nari is wielding a majestic red and golden bow.

Every arrow released from it contained the essence of a phoenix, and each shot cracked the space, threatening to suck the figure inside.

On the other hand, the figure wielded a sword and a shield. But from the way she fought, one could tell she was hiding her identity.

Her movements were clumsy, and every strike of her sword revealed her inexperience. The battle reached a stalemate where neither wanted to back down.

Until the one-horned lady was pushed back—that was when she made a mistake. She let go of her sword and shield and took a swipe at Nari with her dragon claw.

Her body changed, and soon, another horn appeared on her forehead, and she grew a tail. The horns were green, and her skin was covered in green scales.

”Itʼs unfortunate the heavens picked me as your intervention, Calamity. Just take this blood essence and revert back to your great self.

I promise if you do that, you will be left alone, and this world you are from wonʼt face any torture from the heavens.”

Nari narrowed her eyes at the blood essence inside a crystal and smirked.

”To think the heavens would take possession of someone I killed millions of years ago. You really are pathetic, as the Star Monarch calls you.” Her angelic yet dreadful laughter filled the air.

”Iʼll say what I said to the heavens all those years ago: go fuck yourself.”

Wings burst out of Nariʼs back, and the bow in her hand turned into a spear. She arrived in front of the dragon and drove it through her heart.

The dragonʼs eyes widened as the blood essence fell from her hands. Nari caught it and looked coldly into her eyes.

”I am a person. I have the right to be my own person. I have the right to have feelings. I have the right to marry who I want and live a good life with him.

I have the right to love and hate, and I have the right to fight for those I love. I love this world, I love the people, and I love the one who saved me all those years ago from your cruelty.

You used me for generations, making me destroy so you could rebuild and try to rule over everything. For generations, I acted as your weapon of destruction, the calamity bringer.

And every generation, you made me the bad guy. I say not anymore.

So this is my warning to you. Walk away while you still can, for I wonʼt be the last, and believe me, one day when he has had enough, he will destroy everything.

And I will be at his right, acting as his weapon. This time, instead of destroying generations, we will destroy the heavens, for that is the only way.

You can die now, but when the day comes, you will die for real.”

The spear engulfed in flames, burning the body down to the last atom. Nari put away the spear and snapped her fingers.

Klaus, who was looking at the burning flames, suddenly vanished and appeared within the flames, perfectly safe from any harm.

”Hello, Star Monarch, or should I call you, husband... Hehe.”
