Beast Taming: Becoming a Bug-type Elite Four Member Starting with Silkworm Raising

Chapter 176 Tomb BeetleChapter 176 Tomb Beetle
”Go forward slowly, don’t be surprised...”

After giving Jiang Xue and Chen Yuan a few instructions again, Russell took Ayou and Daolang back to the beast-controlling space, and then took the lead in walking forward.

”We listen to the captain.”

Seeing Russell being so decisive, the two of them did not hesitate, put away their pets and continued to move forward behind him.

After walking along the direction of the huge energy for about ten minutes, the rock top above the tunnel, which was only about half a meter higher than the three of them, began to gradually rise, and the width of the tunnel became wider and wider.

Judging from the terrain, the exploration team seemed to have arrived at a wide cave.

It’s just that this cave is covered in light gray fog. Even with hand-held lights, the visual range of the three people is less than five meters.

”Wait a minute, I want to test the composition of these fogs.”

Before officially entering the area covered by fog, Jiang Xue temporarily stopped Russell’s progress.

As she spoke, she closed her eyes, and a soft white light appeared in front of her forehead.

This is Jiang Xue’s beast-controlling talent ”Discrimination of Harm”, which can assist in finding the location of injured or diseased animals during diagnosis, and can also be used to identify whether some substances are harmful.

After a while, the white light in front of Jiang Xue’s forehead faded, and she slowly opened her eyes.

”It’s not toxic. The ingredients are similar to black dew, but it has more insect and ghost energy, so it can pass through.”

Jiang Xue’s expression was slightly tired due to the consumption of a lot of mental energy. Fortunately, the result of the identification was that the mist was harmless.

Moreover, these mists seem to be the source of the black dew, which further proves the value of the black dew secret realm.

Reaching this conclusion, Russell continued to lead the way into the gray fog.

The moment he came into contact with the mist, Russell felt that the abundant insect energy was constantly flowing towards him. He only needed to use his mental power to guide it slightly to let this energy flow into his beast control space.

As an insect summoner, if you stay in this environment, even if you do nothing, the cultivation effect on your pet beasts is completely comparable to that of using a large amount of mid-level cultivation materials in the outside world.

However, now Russell doesn’t dare to start absorbing the insect energy in the secret realm.

On the one hand, the team had to catch up with the Fire Stealing Group’s exploration progress, and no time could be lost.

Secondly, there is a lord-level pet beast lingering nearby that is very likely to reach a high level of strength.

After touching the gray fog with the energy thread, Russell felt its existence more clearly.

If it were alarmed, with the strength of the three fourth-level beast masters, it would probably die an ugly death.

Fortunately, according to the feedback from the ”Cocoon of Evolution” talent, the energy in the gray mist was calm and almost no unnecessary fluctuations were felt. This meant that the lord-level pet beast had not been active for some time.

”I can feel that the lord-level beast is moving forward slowly in this gray mist. Don’t disturb it.”

After conveying the information he just sensed to the other two teammates, Russell turned and walked into the depths of the gray mist.

Jiang Xue and Chen Yuan followed closely behind. The three of them moved forward carefully relying on the light of the lights, and from time to time they had to stop to identify the direction in the fog.

However, such a cautious traveling mode was destined to be very slow, and the journey that was originally estimated to only take ten minutes to complete naturally seemed extremely long.

After walking for a while, facing the unchanging fog environment around them, the three people in the team felt obviously depressed.

”How big is this cave? Why haven’t we reached the end yet...”

Looking at the endless gray fog, Jiang Xue, who was not used to the dim environment, complained softly.

Although Russell and Chen Yuan did not complain, their moods were similar to hers.

It’s okay if the fog is so thick that you can’t see the road clearly, but the environment inside this cave is extremely smooth.

Not only was the ground as smooth as a cement floor, but there were no obstacles or reference objects such as stalactites or gravel along the way.

Empty and silent, this is the common feeling of the three people towards this cave.

Moreover, for Russell, who knew the key word of ”Tomb” in the Black Dew Secret Realm, this feeling was even weirder.

He even wondered if this was a huge tomb, or a large coffin...

If the direction of the compass in their hands had not shifted, the three of them would have thought they had encountered a ghost.

Fortunately, the Black Dew Secret Realm is not a secret realm centered on the space system after all. It does not have outrageous puzzle-solving elements such as multiple spaces or random teleportation.

The three of them moved forward steadily in one direction, and finally saw a slight change in the surrounding environment.

The first thing that caught Russell’s eyes was a circular stone pillar that collapsed diagonally.

There were many complicated patterns carved on the stone pillar. Although several people present could not understand the meaning of the patterns, everyone agreed that this must be a high-end product!

At the same time, Russell clearly felt that the energy intensity around him had increased to another level.

If you want to describe it quantitatively, it is like soaking your body in a solution composed of various intermediate cultivation materials.

”The energy intensity ahead is gradually increasing. We should be close to the Lord’s Pet Beast... Everyone, take a rest first, and I will check the situation.”

Realizing that the cave lord was almost within arm’s reach of the exploration team, he stopped again and carefully sensed the surrounding atmosphere with energy threads.

According to alliance intelligence, the lord-level pet beast has a gentle personality, and it is one thing that the three of them decided not to take a detour.

However, contact with high-level pet beasts is a highly dangerous matter after all. It would be better not to have close contact with lord-level pet beasts...

At the current position, every step he took was likely to run into the cave lord head-on. Russell naturally wanted to avoid this situation as much as possible.

Unfortunately, ”Cocoon of Evolution” is not a serious detection talent after all.

When the insect energy was everywhere and very strong nearby, he couldn’t accurately judge how far away he was from the lord’s pet beast.

”How about we leave a marking point here?”

Sensing Russell’s hesitation, Chen Yuan took out a device that looked like a large screw from his backpack and asked.

This is a common marking and positioning device within the Beast Control Alliance. Its function is very simple, it is to provide coordinate information and communication effects.

The spiral structure under the device is to facilitate fixing the device in different environments and prevent it from falling off or accidentally moving.

Although there is a layer of space between them, the signal of the marking device cannot be transmitted to the camp outside the secret realm, but it is still completely possible to assist positioning inside the secret realm.

After marking a certain place, even if an unexpected situation occurs while continuing to explore, the three of them can quickly return to the marked place through the positioning device.

It’s just that in order to ensure energy storage and power, this marking device cannot be made too small. The latest model is about the size of an adult’s fist.

Chen Yuan has the strongest physical strength among the three. He is carrying a large marching bag, but there are only five positioning devices in it.

Chen Yuan would be reluctant to use up a marking device if he didn’t encounter a truly valuable marking point. And this huge cave now does have certain marking value.

This is the location where the three of them may encounter the first high-level pet beast during this exploration. It is also not far from the tunnel with thin outer rock walls of the mountain, so it is considered a good evacuation point.

”Okay, the terrain here is vast. If you encounter any danger, at least you won’t be blocked easily if you run here.”

After thinking for a moment, Russell agreed with Chen Yuan’s idea of laying the first mark in this cave.

Hearing this, Chen Yuan did not write ink. He reached out and twisted behind the marking device. As the power was turned on, the spiral structure below the device began to rotate at high speed.

Then, Chen Yuan pressed the marking device hard on the diagonally collapsed stone pillar beside him.

When the spiral connected with the stone pillar, there was a shattering sound of metal and stone colliding, and the marking device was quickly rotated and fixed on the stone pillar.

After waiting for a moment and confirming that the coordinates of this point appeared on the electronic map he carried with him, Chen Yuan repacked his backpack and reported to Russell:

”Okay, with these coordinates you won’t get lost, let’s continue...!”

However, just halfway through what he said, the originally quiet cave suddenly started to vibrate.

Moreover, the sudden shock was extremely violent. Russell, who was used to being an otaku and had hardly practiced any physical skills, was shaken and fell directly to the ground.

What’s even worse is that the vibrations in the cave showed no signs of stopping. Instead, they became stronger and stronger. After more than ten seconds, even Jiang Xue and Chen Yuan could no longer stand.

As a last resort, Jiang Xue could only summon her own nurse spider, and used spider silk to fix the three of them to the stone pillar next to them.

Finally regaining her balance with her back against the stone pillar, she finally took a breath and prepared to ask about Russell and Chen Yuan’s situation.

”Huh...why is there an earthquake suddenly? Are you okay...ah!”

But the scene that happened next frightened Jiang Xue into shouting.

As the earthquake continued to intensify, the stone pillar used by the three people to fix their bodies suddenly stood up straight, and was pulled out of the ground for a long time by some huge force.

After a period of spinning, when everyone in the team came back to their senses, they realized that they were already hanging in mid-air.

At the same time, after this shaking, the fog that originally filled the cave also dispersed a lot.

After shaking his head and trying to calm down the feeling of vomiting, Russell regained his thinking ability and suddenly discovered that the stone pillar they just marked was not a pillar at all, but an extremely thick insect leg!

Looking in the direction of the giant insect’s legs, the three of them opened their mouths unconsciously.

Above this ”stone pillar”, there is an almost invisible black oval connected to it.

From the several stone pillars that moved nearby and the membrane wings faintly visible between the gaps in the black carapace, it can be seen that this is a giant beetle that exceeds the size of any insect-type pet beast in the existing records of the Alliance.

Judging from the size of the stone pillar, the length of this giant beetle is likely to be more than 200 meters.

In other words, the three of them walked around the cave just now, and part of the journey was probably under the belly of this giant insect-type beast.

The reason for its sudden awakening was most likely because it felt the sting of the drilling of the marking device.

Fortunately, the size of the marking device is almost equivalent to an invisible needle in front of this giant beast.

After waking up from the sting, the giant beetle did not go into a rage. Instead, it slowly moved its body around the cave, as if it was stretching its stiff body from sleep.

”Oh my god... this is the lord-level pet beast in the secret realm? Why do I feel that it is much stronger than the Bone-breaking Battle Ax Dragon...?”

Suddenly being hung on the leg of a giant pet beast, Chen Yuan, who had maintained a serious image all the way, couldn’t hold himself tight at this moment, and his voice was obviously trembling.

”That doesn’t mean...the energy intensity of this pet beast is at level eight, but the total energy is very huge, just like an arc light airship, it is a giant pet beast.”

Suddenly faced with this unexpected situation that was completely beyond imagination, Russell’s heart was also beating wildly, but he still maintained the state of exploration of energy threads and promptly fed back the information he learned to his teammates.

”By the way, have any of you heard of a pet beast called a tomb beetle?”

After a pause, he added another question to Jiang Xue and Chen Yuan.

It has to be said that the ”Cocoon of Evolution” talent is very qualified as a plug-in. Even if it is faced with such a beast that the beast control alliance does not necessarily have information about, as long as the opponent is an insect type, it can quickly obtain a lot of information. .

”Tomb beetle

Attribute: Bug

Bloodline Level: Purple Gold
Life energy level: eighth level

Skills: Tombstone of Tomb Guard, Deep Sleep...? ? ”

Probably because the level gap was too large, Russell could not detect the detailed information of this giant beetle, but knowing the name, attributes, levels and some skills was much better than being completely blinded.

Regarding the question of the identity of the tomb beetle, Russell actually just asked casually. Unexpectedly, Jiang Xue, a doctoral student in Longquan City, actually picked up the topic.

”I have a little impression...but I probably didn’t hear this name in the pet encyclopedia course. It seems I heard it in the history class.”

According to Jiang Xue’s fragmented memory, this kind of pet beast actually existed in official records, but the source of the information is the archaeological community.

In other words, according to the knowledge of Beast Control Alliance officials and scholars, the tomb beetle has been extinct for many years.

Archaeologists have conducted a series of tests on their huge fossils and speculated that this giant beast likes dark environments and usually lives underground.

If the environment becomes harsh or food sources are insufficient, they will go into hibernation to save energy and wait for the right time to wake up.

This is consistent with the ”deep sleep” skill detected by Russell.

In addition, the breath of the tomb beetle can slow down the flow of energy around it, which can theoretically play an antiseptic role.

However, due to the high degree of incompleteness of the fossils and the energy dissipated for a long time, the archaeological community at that time did not define the bloodline level and adult level of the tomb beetle.

After all, the size of ancient creatures is indeed generally large. It is too hasty to judge how powerful they are simply by seeing their size.

Giant fossils such as the magic bean oak were finally confirmed to be just ancient silver-level plant pets that were particularly good at growing.

However, judging from the information fed back by the ”Cocoon of Evolution” talent and the exceptionally rich insect energy in the sleeping area of the Tomb Beetle, this ancient insect beast is not much weaker.

Then the question arises. Not only has a large trial secret realm been built, but a batch of such powerful ancient beasts can also be captured and placed in the secret realm...

If you speculate like this, how terrifying is the strength of the builder of this secret realm?
Moreover, the antiseptic ability of the tomb beetle can also be linked to the keyword ”tomb”, which made Russell even more curious about the identity of the builder of the secret realm.
