Chapter 181: The Airport and the Prospect of Having Private Jets
December 30th, 2026.

At the Manila International Airport.

The announcement of Michael Reyes receiving a Nobel Prize in London had been all over the news, and his scheduled flight was drawing attention from the media and public alike.

The airport was crowded, but security was tight. A team of private bodyguards kept watch as Michael’s entourage made their way through the terminal. Journalists and curious onlookers were gathered near the check-in area, cameras flashing as they tried to catch a glimpse of the man of the hour.

Michael Reyes walked through the terminal, his tailored suit and calm demeanor distinguishing him from the throng of travelers. He offered polite nods to those who recognized him but maintained a brisk pace, not slowing for the cameras or questions. Following behind him were Bridget, Antoneitte, Juliet, Myra, and John Carter.

Carter is the Chief of Staff of the security detail. He was in constant communication with his team as they navigated through the bustling airport. His earpiece crackled with updates from other bodyguards strategically positioned throughout the terminal, ensuring a smooth passage for Michael’s entourage.

”Gate C is clear. Proceed as planned,” Carter instructed.

he team tightened their formation around Michael, creating a protective barrier as they approached the security checkpoint.

Michael’s calm demeanor didn’t falter, even as flashes from cameras and the constant murmur of the crowd swirled around them. He acknowledged the well-wishers with brief nods, but he kept his pace steady.

Juliet caught up to Michael Reyes and leaned forward, speaking softly but urgently.

”Mr. Reyes, I think it’s best if you answer one of the media’s questions. It might help ease the pressure and keep things flowing smoothly,” she suggested.

Michael glanced around at the throng of journalists and nodded. ”Pick one with a simple question. I don’t want to get drawn into a full interview,” he said.

Juliet scanned the crowd, picking a journalist who looked less aggressive than the others. She gestured for him to approach, ensuring he remained at a safe distance from Michael’s security detail.

”Mr. Reyes, what does this Nobel Prize mean to you and your work?” the journalist asked, his voice carrying over the noise of the airport.

Michael considered the suggestion, his eyes narrowing slightly as he thought it through. A private jet would certainly ease the logistics of travel and reduce unwanted attention, but private jets cost a lot of money, which is not a problem for him as he also has a lot of money.

”Where do I buy one?” Michael asked.

”There is one in London,” Bridget answered. ”We can visit the broker after the Nobel Prize ceremony. He specializes in luxury aircraft and can show you a range of options.”

”Make the arrangements. I want to see the best jets they have. Security and comfort are my top priorities.”

Bridget took out her tablet to make a note. ”Understood, I’ll set it up. The broker is discreet, so we won’t have to worry about drawing attention.”

Michael glanced around the departure lounge. ”You know, being rich also means you have to own your private jets. It was a really good suggestion from you, Bridget.”

”Well for me, I don’t need private jets,” Antoneitte chimed in.

”That’s because your business is focused domestically, Mrs. Estolas. You rarely ventured outside of the Philippines,” Bridget replied.

Antoneitte chuckled. ”That’s true, Bridget. I like to stay local, but I can see why Michael needs a private jet. His work has a global reach, after all.”

Juliet nodded in agreement. ”With a private jet, you can avoid the hassles of commercial flights and have more flexibility in your travel schedule. Plus, it’s easier to ensure security.”

Carter was listening intently while keeping an eye on the surroundings. ”Sir... the boarding call will be announced soon,” he said, signaling to his team to be on high alert. ”We should be ready to move.”

Michael nodded, indicating he was prepared. Bridget quickly packed up her tablet, making sure she had everything needed for their trip to London.

Journalists lingered nearby, hoping to catch a last-minute soundbite or photo of Michael before he boarded. The security detail, led by Carter, maintained a strict perimeter, ensuring that only authorized personnel could approach the group.

”Let’s go,” Carter said, guiding Michael and his entourage toward the gate. The airline staff were prepared for their arrival, allowing them to board the plane without delay.

On the plane, they were escorted to their seats in the first-class cabin. Once everyone was settled, they prepared for their trip to London.
