Building a Business Empire with my Technological System

Chapter 169: Where is the Danger?
Michael immediately got tensed after reading that notification, his eyes darting from left to right wondering who might have an intention of eliminating him on his spot. Could it be an assassin employed by one of the businesses that will be affected by his invention or a disgruntled competitor unwilling to see his success disrupt the status quo? These thoughts raced through Michael’s mind.

Despite the immediate threat, Michael knew he had to maintain his composure. The crowd was still watching him intently, unaware of the silent alarm that had gone off in his head. Keeping his voice steady, he continued addressing the man’s question, ensuring his answer was thorough yet succinct, to avoid suspicion.

”To enroll in our clinical trials,” Michael explained, ”one simply needs to apply through our website where all the necessary details are provided. Our medical team reviews each application to ensure candidates meet the specific criteria for the study. This process is crucial for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our treatments.”

As he spoke, Michael discreetly signaled Juliet with a subtle nod, a prearranged sign that meant she needed to be alert and prepared for any immediate action. Juliet, understanding the urgency hidden behind Michael’s composed facade, subtly touched her phone, messaging the security team to heighten their surveillance without causing a stir among the guests.

”Thank you for your interest,” Michael concluded, ”and I wish your father the best in his journey towards recovery. We’re doing everything we can to help patients like him.”

The crowd applauded once more, their focus on his inspiring words, but Michael’s attention was split. As he stepped down from the podium, he kept his senses sharp, watching for any unusual movement or potential threats in the crowd.

His mind raced through potential escape routes and defensive strategies, planning his next steps carefully while maintaining the facade of a successful CEO at a pivotal event.

Juliet approached him discreetly as he made his way back to his table.

”Everything is in place,” she murmured, her voice low enough for only Michael to hear. ”Security has been doubled, and we’re monitoring all exits. Do you want to proceed with the lunch, or would you prefer to leave?”

”No, it’s best that I stay here and do what I need to do. Do you have full confidence in the security firm you

hired for today’s event?”

Juliet nodded firmly. ”They are one of the best in the industry, and they’re very discreet. They understand the situation and are prepared for any contingencies.”

Michael couldn’t tell that he was tipped by the system for an apparent reason.

”I just got a gut feeling,” Michael said.

Juliet sighed. ”Sir, that’s too vague. You’ve never been one to rely on just ’gut feelings.’ Should we consider evacuating?”

Michael considered Juliet’s point. ”No, let’s not escalate to evacuation just yet. Keep everything tight, but let’s stay the course.”

”Understood,” Juliet responded, giving him a nod of assurance before she stepped away to continue coordinating with the security team.

Michael turned his attention back to the table, trying to engage more actively in the conversation to dispel any lingering concerns from his guests. The discussions shifted from his company’s innovations to broader industry trends, providing Michael with a necessary distraction from his worries.

As the event progressed, the atmosphere remained jovial and the room buzzed with enthusiastic conversations about the future of technology and medicine. Servers weaved through the tables, offering desserts and coffee, while a soft melody played in the background, maintaining the event’s upscale ambiance.

Despite the normalcy of the event’s progression, Michael remained on edge, because the notification was not going away. Did the system malfunction? It’s too impossible for a system to malfunction.

The event eventually neared its conclusion without any disturbances. Michael gave a final nod to Juliet, who discreetly confirmed that the security sweep had again found no threats. Relieved yet still cautious, Michael prepared to make his exit.

”Thank you, everyone, for a wonderful afternoon,” Michael announced to the room, his voice steady. ”Your support and engagement are what drives us to continue our work. We look forward to many more successes together.”

With polite goodbyes and handshakes, Michael, escorted by Juliet and a subtle security detail, made his way out of the venue. Outside, his gut feeling activated, and prompted him to look at the buildings that have a good vantage point for a sniper.

Glancing at those skyscrapers he noticed a faint reflection of a scope.
