Re-Awakening: I Ascend with a Legendary class

Chapter 760: Ten Days Before Hell (2/2)

The Gilded Horizon did not sit on the ground at all.

It hung above the Aurelian capital on a garden the size of a small city, tethered to nothing anyone could see, drifting slow and serene over rooftops of white stone and gold. The whole family stood at the edge of it after arriving and simply looked for a long moment, because looking was, for once, allowed to be the whole plan.

”John undersold it,” Marcus said.

”John undersells everything,” Almond said. ”It’s how he keeps people showing up.”

A host greeted them at the garden’s edge, took one look at the banner Marcus carried, and bowed low enough that his forehead nearly touched the grass.

”Ananta Regalon,” the man said. ”One hundred and eighty-third. We had heard you might come. The falls suite is already prepared, exactly as requested.”

Ainen leaned toward Almond. ”I could get used to this.”

”Don’t,” Almond said. ”We leave in ten days.”

”I said I could. Not that I would.”

---

The Cascade Gardens were the first thing anyone found, mostly because it was impossible to miss water that fell sideways.

Whole waterfalls curled through the air in slow spirals, defying every rule the family had ever learned about which way water was supposed to go, pooling into floating basins that drifted gently above the garden’s actual ground.

Saffa waded into the nearest one and came up laughing, an unguarded sound nobody had heard from her in longer than she probably realized.

”It’s warm,” she said, delighted and betrayed at once. ”Why is it warm.”

Clovelle folded a short stretch of space just to feel the water bend around the seam of it, watching the current pour through her fold like it was the most interesting puzzle she’d found in weeks.

”It listens,” she said. ”The whole garden listens to whoever’s standing in it.”

---

The Aurora Chute took longer to find, mostly because nobody believed the first person who described it.

It was, as promised, an actual captured storm, coiled into a long, glowing slide that dropped riders through folded loops of contained lightning, safe by some design none of them fully trusted and all of them decided to enjoy anyway.

Gopu took his turn in full dragon form, which nobody had explicitly told him he could not do, and came out the bottom trailing sparks and roaring with what could only be described as pure delight.

Silvester and Hiroshi went down together, shoulder to shoulder, and arrived at the bottom both talking over each other about the exact same drop from two completely different angles.

”Again,” Hiroshi said.

”Obviously again,” Silvester said.

Rudra watched three full runs from the platform above with his arms crossed and the particular stillness of a man calculating something.

”The containment field redirects impact force along a spiral vector,” he said, mostly to himself. ”That’s elegant work.”

”You’re doing math at a water slide,” Natalia called up at him.

”I’m appreciating engineering,” Rudra said, and went down the chute anyway, and did not stop smiling for a full ten minutes afterward, which for him counted as a small miracle.

---

The Dreaming Pools sat in the quietest corner of the garden, and the family found them almost by accident, drawn in by nothing louder than the smell of something like warm rain.

The water there did not glow or move strangely. It simply sat, still and silver, and the moment Kayla lowered herself into it, her face went soft in a way none of her plant spirits had ever managed to coax out of her on their own.

”I can see the greenhouse,” she murmured, eyes half closed. ”The first one. Before any of this.”

Fraisea settled in beside her without asking what greenhouse, because some things a person shared when they were ready and not before.

”It’s not a memory,” Fraisea said, testing the water with careful fingers. ”It’s rest wearing the shape of one.”

Big D lowered himself in last, slow and creaking, and said nothing at all for a long while, which was its own kind of answer.

---

Ainen, predictably, found the Feast Eternal within the hour and did not leave it for most of the day.

Long tables ran the length of a hall with no visible ceiling, laden with dishes that refilled themselves the moment a plate went empty, ingredients pulled from corners of the layer the family had never set foot in.

He tasted everything. He interrogated three separate chefs about a spice he did not recognize, charmed the head cook into showing him the kitchens, and returned to the family’s table an hour later looking like a man who had found a rival worth respecting.

”They season with pressed starlight,” he announced, delighted and slightly offended by his own ignorance of the technique. ”I need to learn this before we leave.”

”You have ten days,” Almond said.

”That’s barely enough time to be properly humbled.”

---

The Still Hour turned out to be the strangest gift of all, and Almond found it last, tucked behind a curtain of silver leaves that no one had thought to push aside.

Inside was a single quiet room, and the moment the curtain fell shut behind him, the whole garden’s noise dropped away to nothing.

An attendant explained it simply. An hour spent inside felt like a full day of true rest, gentled and safe, nothing like the brutal dilation of an Exceed Cave, built only for healing rather than trial.

Almond sat in it for what felt like a lazy afternoon, and stepped back out into the garden only fifty minutes later, and found Lily waiting exactly where he’d left her, patient as ever.

”You look lighter,” she said.

”I feel like I slept for a year,” he admitted. ”A good year.”

”Good,” Lily said. ”You’ve earned a few of those.”

---

Night fell slow over the Gilded Horizon, gold light easing into something softer, and the family scattered across the garden in twos and threes, finally, properly, off duty.

Natalia found the garden’s bar the way she found most things, by following the loudest laughter, and dragged Marcus and Maya along with her before either of them could object.

Noah and Kira were already there when they arrived, tucked into a corner booth with drinks half finished, and waved the others over without needing to be asked twice.

”Room for three more,” Noah said, sliding down to make space.

They drank for a while without much purpose, the easy kind of quiet that only happened among people who had already survived enough together to skip the small talk.

Then Natalia set her glass down harder than she meant to.

”X-rank potential,” she said, staring at nothing in particular. ”I want to reach it. I want to walk into the same events they walk into, instead of watching the notice board and hoping they come back.”

The table went quiet.

Marcus looked at his own drink. Maya looked at the tabletop. Nobody rushed to disagree, because nobody actually disagreed at all.

”Even if we want to,” Kira said, with a wry, tired smile, ”how exactly do you suppose we do that?”

”There’s only one way,” Natalia said, and the look she gave them was sharp enough to cut through the drink in her hand. ”We have to be crazy about it.”

”Crazy how,” Marcus said. ”Crazy what.”

Nobody had an answer ready. The table sat in silence, five people turning the question over like a stone none of them wanted to put down.

Then Natalia grinned, slow and reckless, the same grin she wore right before she picked a fight she had no business winning.

”Let’s destroy our decks,” she said. ”And start over.”
