Apocalyptic Wasteland Simulator

Chapter 111 - 106: Great Battle! Unexpected Person
Although Chen Pingchuan didn’t know what was on Belia’s mind, he was an expert in human nature. For a girl with such severe psychological issues, agreeing to her request first to calm her down was undoubtedly the wisest choice. As for how they would interact in the future, Chen Pingchuan had no time to consider that now.The only thing he could confirm at this moment was that to successfully handle her, he had to achieve at least one of two things. One, he had to absolutely overpower her in strength, leaving her no room to get defiant or nitpicky. Two, he had to let her have her way in trivial matters but hold firm to his principles on major issues, never backing down even if she threatened his life.

It had to be said that Chen Pingchuan had psychology down to a science. His previous handling of Ji Hongxiu was a perfect example.

”Hehehe...”

Hearing Chen Pingchuan’s affirmative answer, a bright, flower-like smile blossomed on Belia’s face. It was because Belia genuinely felt a deep, doting affection from the depths of his heart.

”Thank you, brother!”

Belia thanked Chen Pingchuan with a hint of coyness, then began to skip over to the law enforcement officers, her steps light as she carefully dodged the gravel on the ground.

Seeing the little girl’s innocent expression, all the team members, except for Captain Pig Head, looked horrified. They had never encountered a situation like this in their entire lives. They had faced stronger and fiercer enemies before, but even the toughest opponents required a struggle, a clash of blades, before defeat. Yet now, they had lost without any explanation, as if the girl before them wasn’t human but a monster that hunted people for sport.

Among the group, only Captain Pig Head had some worldly knowledge. He hadn’t recognized her at first because, in his memory, that powerful figure rarely ever stepped foot outside the City of No Night. To be precise, she had never taken a single step out of that city, even after the apocalypse began.

Looking at the enemy before him, who appeared as a little girl, Captain Pig Head’s mind filled with various rumors about that mysterious figure, and an indescribably complex emotion surged within him. He knew that if the person before him was truly *her*...

Struggling to suppress the tremor in his voice, Captain Pig Head forced himself to remain calm and spoke slowly. ”Are you... are you the great one from the City of No Night? I must have been blind. I have eyes but failed to recognize the City Lord’s presence. To act so rashly against you without understanding the situation... I deserve to die a thousand deaths.”

”You know me?” Belia tilted her head, genuinely curious as to why he would recognize her. Behind her, Chen Pingchuan’s expression turned peculiar. Belia’s notorious reputation might be even worse than he imagined.

Beads of sweat began to form on Captain Pig Head’s forehead, his eyes filled with deep regret and fear. He knew he was in deep trouble this time. If he couldn’t earn this powerful figure’s forgiveness, the consequences... The consequences would probably mean he’d never have to worry about what to eat for lunch again.

A fawning smile instantly appeared on his face as he said obsequiously, ”How could I not recognize you, my lady? I must have had a moment of madness to have failed to recognize you.”

”Blame me for being blind and foolish. I beg you, Lady Belia, please don’t lower yourself to my level. Furthermore, I am a follower of the Holy Spirit Sect, and our Archbishop is currently stationed in Kailing Province. If there has been some misunderstanding, please give me a chance to explain.”

”You’ve heard of the Holy Spirit Sect, I’m sure. We’ve had friendly collaborations with your City of No Night.”

”As for compensation, rest assured, my sincerity will surely satisfy you.”

Captain Pig Head couldn’t afford to be arrogant now; he laid all his cards on the table. Mentioning the Archbishop wasn’t a threat but a calculated move to make her weigh the pros and cons. He was just a small fry, after all. Whether he lived or died depended entirely on her mood. As long as he groveled sufficiently, those in power would normally not deign to bother with a minor character like him.

But he had forgotten Belia’s reputation—or rather, he refused to acknowledge it.

Belia couldn’t care less about the nonsense Captain Pig Head was spouting. Had it not been for the fact that simply killing people was no fun, this pig head wouldn’t have even had the chance to open his mouth.

Without responding to him, Belia first bowed to the group, a solemn expression appearing on her fair, tender face for the first time. ”Hello, everyone! First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Belia, and I’m from the City of No Night... erm, let’s say Spring City, since you probably haven’t heard of that little place.”

What a pointless gesture, Captain Pig Head cursed internally. The City of No Night was barely a hundred kilometers from the Doomsday Bunker Shelter. To suggest they hadn’t heard of it was to treat them like idiots. Besides, he had just identified her origins, but this insane City Lord was acting as if she were deaf.

Unfortunately, Captain Pig Head didn’t dare provoke her now. The consequence of his anger would be his life, and he wasn’t ready to die just yet.

”Enough chit-chat. Now, Belia is going to play a game with you. I’ll be the referee, and you’ll be the players. Whoever wins gets to live. Whoever loses must accept their punishment.”

As Belia finished speaking, the men bound by her Telekinesis were instantly lifted into the air, left floating several meters above the ground. This act immediately drained the color from the faces of the ordinary members who were merely padding the ranks.

Captain Pig Head, however, was unfazed by the height; a fall like that wouldn’t kill him. But he knew Belia’s punishment wouldn’t be so simple, and the ”game” she spoke of was unlikely to be fun at all.

Chen Pingchuan didn’t have a habit of torturing his enemies, but as someone with virtually no combat ability, he had no say in the matter. He could only watch as Belia ran amok.

”Hee hee hee, let me explain the rules of the game first.”

Belia didn’t know why she was acting this way. Ever since her body had reverted to that of a child, her mindset had been quietly shifting back to one as well. If she hadn’t constantly held the position of City Lord, she probably would have let her inner child out to play long ago. Running away with Chen Pingchuan was proving to be the right decision.

Looking at the men she had suspended in the sky, she began to ponder what game to play.

Drawing and quartering? No, no, brother is behind me, that’s too bloody. It’ll ruin my image. A flash of inspiration for the guillotine? No, just lopping off a head is no fun at all. Make them tell embarrassing stories about each other? No, too boring!

Countless ideas flashed through her mind, all of which she rejected. She started to grow frantic. Even the Telekinesis holding the men tightened, causing some of the less physically robust members to cry out in pain.

”Belia!”

Chen Pingchuan’s voice was as gentle as the wind. He reached out with his strong left hand and lightly took her small one. His palm was large enough to completely envelop hers. The warmth of his touch instantly calmed her restless heart, as if she had found a tranquil sanctuary.

Belia looked up and saw the concern in his eyes. Her conflicted, frantic expression immediately melted into a joyful smile. ”Brother, I know what game to play now.”

”What is it?”

”That little game we played before. You even called me a little fool.”

Belia’s childish voice was so soft and sweet it nearly melted Chen Pingchuan’s heart. Although he had no idea what game he had played with her in the simulation, it didn’t stop him from playing along. ”Alright, we’ll do as you say.”

Receiving his approval made Belia even happier. She waved her little hand, lowering the men back to the ground. Then, she announced the rules for today’s game.

”I’m going to play a game with you. Does anyone want to quit? If you do, you can tell me now. You won’t get another chance later.”

Hearing this, a few of the team members who had been filled with despair were suddenly overjoyed. While silently mocking the little girl for being an idiot, they began to plead for their lives.

”I don’t want to play! I’m out! Please, let me go, I have an eighty-year-old mother to take care of, I...”

”Yes, me too! I’m not playing either! I have a baby in swaddling clothes who needs me to raise him, I...”

About four or five men spoke up. They were all wanderers with average abilities but a bit of street smarts who had been recruited into the enforcement team. The truly capable ones, however, kept their eyes fixed on their leader, Captain Pig Head, waiting for his move. Since he remained silent, they dared not speak rashly. This was the difference between an ordinary person and a clever one.

”That’s such a shame. You don’t want to play such a fun game? Very well, I’ll see you off first.”

A few sickening CRACKS echoed as the necks of those who wanted to quit the game snapped, and they fell to the ground, lifeless.

Of course, the perpetrator of this act was busy praising herself internally. I’m so kind. I couldn’t bear to let my brother see such a bloody scene.

Chen Pingchuan remained expressionless, as this was exactly what he had expected. If you could simply opt out of a game, it wouldn’t be much of a game.

”Alright, anyone else want to quit?” Belia asked again, quite pleased with her handiwork, her voice sweet and childlike. When no one objected, she smiled faintly.

”Since no one else is quitting, let the game begin. The name of the game is... Brain Teasers.”

A strange look crossed Chen Pingchuan’s face. This couldn’t be the game he had taught her, could it? If it was, all he could do was offer these men three seconds of silent mourning.

”Listen carefully. I will ask the questions, starting from the first person on the left. You get three chances. Answer correctly, and you move on. Answer incorrectly...”

Belia didn’t specify the punishment, but everyone knew. The penalty for a wrong answer would likely be the same as for those who had just fallen...

”Listen for the first question.”
