The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 1950 Not Raeʼs Preferred Option

Rae laughed as Karl made the promise.

She knew that they were going to try to find a way to appease the Darklight Host, and that they would not be waiting around for their entire Clan to be wiped out.

But a girl could dream.

After a few minutes on the ground, recovering from the damage, the Clan Leader finally began to accept that his soul was heavily damaged, and that a mere healing spell was not going to bring him back to full health any time soon.

He was going to have a long road to recovery from this disaster, assuming that they could get out of it alive.

Karl raised his voice to begin the formal negotiations for the end of the Clan War, while the forces of both sides waited with tense anticipation. If this didnʼt go well, the war would continue, and there was little doubt that the Darklight Host would secure a crushing victory.

With their Supreme Ranked leader crippled by soul damage, there was nobody who could stand against the Branch Leader of the Darklight Host, or the Supreme Ranked Lycan that they had waiting for the war to recommence.

”Warriors of the Divine Fist Devils, hear me. You have two choices here today. You have lost the Guild War by challenge, and by rights your clan territories now belong to the Darklight Host.

However, I am a merciful man. Turn over one thousand System standardized Clan Credits for every square metre of land, and every soul within the territory, and we will spare your clan and your lives.

Or, do not, and we will take what we please. One fifth of the wealth, one fifth of the lives, and all of the land.”

The Clan members froze in shock as Karlʼs words spread over the city.

The right of pillage was one fifth was it not? But how could you count the lives of the members are part of your tribute?

Was the Darklight Host intending to recruit away their most promising members?

That was not unheard of, and in many cases the entire Clan, except the Elders, would be absorbed into the victorious clan. Usually when the invaders won a guild war.

But the way that he phrased it did not sound at all like he was recruiting.

More like he intended to slaughter the Clan after the war as punishment.

That was also common enough, if there was a grudge that could not be settled, but there was no existing grudge between the two clans, it was simply a mercenary action that spiralled out of control due to the idiocy of a few Elders.

That seemed to be par for the course lately.

This continent hadnʼt seen a lot of conflict, and the lack of danger had made the Elders arrogant, forgetting that things could and would get far worse if they started to overstep their boundaries.

And now, the Divine Fist Devils were finding out firsthand.

”I will have to check the Guild Treasury. We may not be able to pay,” the Clan Leader reluctantly admitted.

”Take your time, weʼre not going anywhere.”

That made the Clan Leader sigh in resignation. Of course Karl wasnʼt going anywhere, he lived here. But the moment that others found out his clan had lost the duel, they would start to arrive to make the Darklight Host offers on the ceded territory before the Divine Fist Devils could purchase it back.

Not because they wanted the land, in particular. But because it would let them swallow the Immortals who lived there without resistance.

They were too far from the Darklight Host for the Guild to extend their territory, so unless they were going to open a new branch, Karl almost definitely didnʼt want the land. He may want the people, but that wasʼt the impression that he gave off.

No, he wanted the resources, and he saw no reason to let them live if he couldnʼt get them.

In Karlʼs mind, Rae laughed.

[The expression on his face is priceless. I think that heʼs figured it out. We donʼt need them, and we donʼt even need their members. Theyʼre negotiating from nothing, and they donʼt have the money to pay.

Iʼm definitely getting to go stab someone today.]

Opal giggled at Raeʼs enthusiasm. [I donʼt think so, Sister. Someone is going to come make us an offer thatʼs higher than what the Karl asked for, so that they can steal all the members away for themselves.]

The sisters argued about the likelihood of both of their proposals, while Karl watched the Clan Leader silently calculate his funds.

More people were arriving as he desperately negotiated with his members, but the loyal follower count was dropping by the second, as the lower ranking Immortals fled the Clan territory.

The branch was disbanded, they were no longer members, and they didnʼt owe the leader so much that they would stand behind him through this disaster.

His attempt was doomed to failure.

The only members he had left were the ones who had come to the battle, as they couldnʼt leave once the barriers over the Darklight Host were in place.

Rue made sure of that.

However, the hidden powerhouses behind this scheme had arrived.

Rue masked all signs of her presence and retreated to the Tiny World to watch the festivities as the remaining Guild Leaders of the Valalan Alliance, and the replacements for the ones that she had killed, arrived at the arena.

They had four women with them, all blindfolded, which piqued both Karl and Raeʼs interest.

To Karl, it suggested a rare ability.

To Rae, it suggested a fun personal improvement project. Or was that personnel?

[For fun and profit!] Cara cheered.

[Ladies, leave the nice blindfolded women alone.] Karl chided, though he knew that they certainly wouldnʼt if they had a chance to catch them unattended.

”Gentlemen, what brings you here today? Itʼs a rare occasion to have so many Supreme Ranked guests in one spot, if I had known you were coming I would have prepared a proper welcome.”

The Valalan League leadership council nodded politely at Karl as they took note of his tabard.

This man had to know the War God of Gathuzan. Who else but one of her close allies would be able to pull off such an insane feat as taking out a Supreme in an Over Rank duel?

That alone confirmed that they were in the right place, even if the dragon wasnʼt here anymore.
