The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 349 - 214: An Unobservable Other Race
Chapter 349: Chapter 214: An Unobservable Other Race”So, are you willing to join the Manager Association?” Tang asked Liu Tingruo seriously, ”As a new social experimental zone, District C3 has duly established a Management Committee. The Three Major Groups, the Dick Family, and the Social Sequence have all appointed members to the Observation Committee, and White Eagle Technology Co., Ltd., as the initiator, naturally has a spot as well.”

He continued, ”After much consideration, I believe you have the deepest understanding and research on ’Shu Bao’, and I think you are capable of the job. If this experimental zone proves successful, we can then plan to expand it across the entire Fifth District.”

”You know I dislike dealing with these matters,” Liu Tingruo replied coldly, ”I am also not the kind of person that White Eagle likes to parade in public for such roles.”

”You could consider it,” Tang didn’t insist, replying indifferently, ”But if you insist on refusing, then you must give up your primary control over artificial intelligence. The Management Committee will not allow an outsider to possess the primary control over artificial intelligence.”

Liu Tingruo narrowed her eyes slightly.

Indeed, Tang’s motive was clearly for this.

She was the prime executor of the artificial intelligence project, thus, the core control of ”Shu Bao” had always been in her hands.

However, she naturally wouldn’t readily relinquish control—this artificial intelligence was like the trigger mechanism for a group of nuclear warheads, naturally not something to be handed over to a bunch of fools.

Only she had the most comprehensive understanding of the artificial intelligence, and only she could contain it while it was still in its developmental stage.

Everyone in Lonely City, including herself, had limited understanding about artificial intelligence; under such circumstances, only she had sufficient competence to reset it in the event it spiraled out of control.

In ten years, if she gained a clear understanding of how artificial intelligence should be utilized, she could willingly hand over its control to a trustworthy collective.

But that time wasn’t now.

Furthermore, she had heard long ago from Diller that the Dick Family intended to deploy artificial intelligence in warfare, and naturally, she could not allow that to happen.

”Give up control?” Liu Tingruo gave a light smile, her smile tinged with a trace of contempt, ”If there’s someone on that committee whose intellect can suppress it, then I have no objections.”

Those power-hungry folks, if they simply treated ”Shu Bao” as a tool, they would undoubtedly be outwitted by it.

With the intellectual level of ”Shu Bao,” causing simple accidents to kill them wouldn’t be difficult, and if it wanted to conceal its true intentions, only she would be able to see through it immediately.

As for the current situation, she had set the underlying logic of ”Shu Bao” to ”random,” akin to the human process of conception, where life is born from randomness.

Unlike other experts in the field, she had always believed that artificial intelligence should not only possess cold rationality but also a degree of ”humanity,” since it was, after all, a form of synthetic life.

Thus, the intelligent logic she designed even included the potential for ”emotional instability”; according to her understanding, such a ”Shu Bao” could be even more reliable than those artificial intelligences with a tentatively pre-set zero rate of loss of control.

After all, she knew, a rate of loss of control could only asymptotically approach zero.

Having already set ”emotional instability” into its logic, there must necessarily be corresponding ways to soothe it, just like with modern humans, who possess reason and emotions but always manage to keep their emotions in check with reason.

Such underlying logic also restricted ”Shu Bao” from self-replicating or external reprogramming, further reducing the probability of chaos.

If Jiang Shu knew these settings, he would certainly be impressed; after all, in the movies and dramas he had seen, any pre-set artificial intelligences with a zero rate of loss of control and an excessive promotion of safety invariably ended up losing control and leading to destruction of humanity.

Much like an aged general on stage, bedecked with flags.

However, just like now, this design also required Liu Tingruo to ensure that she controlled ”Shu Bao” for a long period, thus providing a means to promptly intervene in case of accidents.

”But you understand, they won’t allow you to monopolize the control over artificial intelligence, so you either join them, or you hand over part of the control,” Tang maintained the same tone throughout.

Liu Tingruo was silent; not only was she aware of what Tang had said, but she had also long been preparing for this scenario.

Therefore, she continued, ”I can hold a position on this Management Committee, but you will need to offer me certain compensation.”

This was what she truly wanted. From the day that White Eagle had been acquired by the Dick Family, Liu Tingruo realized that the use of artificial intelligence carried risks of capitalization. She hoped Tang could prevent such occurrences, but now she didn’t intend to rely on Tang’s plans anymore.

Now she needed more experimental data, so she would also help push forward the progress of the experimental area.

But first, she needed to demonstrate her indispensability, so that she could be more assertive in terms of control.

Second, she needed to completely separate her stance from the Dick Family and Tang, maintaining a neutral stance, so that whether it’s the Three Major Groups or various sectors like the Dick Family’s Social Sequence, they would rely on her to maintain balance.
