188 The Howls from the Bottom of the Cliff
Chen Fan gaped, as he stood transfixed on the ground, the phone in his hands. The saliva in his mouth gradually dried up. ”It’s ruined!” He obviously knew the reason why Wu Rouyu had flipped out.

He was going around in circles in his head. Chen Fan pretended like he was a little unhappy, then he said, ”Can’t you see that we have nothing going on?”

”I cannot see it at all! I can’t believe that you could resist the urge and do nothing, when such a beautiful girl is staying at your house,” said Wu Ruoyu bitterly. ”Plus, what kind of brother are you? You immediately kissed her on the cheek, when you caught her in your arms. I bet you even had other nasty ideas in your head!”

”You’re driving me crazy. Can you stop acting as if you can’t see the forests for the trees?”

”What… What…” Wu Ruoyu was stunned. His statement obviously meant that he thought that she was merely focused on the minor details, while neglecting the major issues!

”All I know is that your plot is an open secret!” Wu Ruoyu clenched her jaw on the other end of the phone line, as she spit out the words.

”Take it as you like. I’m going to eat!” Chen Fan’s head was a mess. He did not even have the courage to address the issue directly.

”Where are you? I want to go, too!” she demanded to know.

”The food has already been served. I’ll look for you, once I’m done with my meal,” said Chen Fan, while he gestured for the waiter to leave the dishes on the table.

Wouldn’t it be disastrous to invite her to join me for a meal? I should really take this opportunity to figure out a solution, so that I can be done with this matter as soon as possible!

He had only taken a few bites of the rice, before all of the dishes in front of him had already turned cold. Chen Fan then stood up and paid the bill.

”Hey, is this Jiang Shui? Give me a call in 20 minutes. Just say that there is an emergency that I have to attend to immediately,” said Chen Fan on the phone, while making his way home.

”Alright, boss. I’ll definitely get the job done!”

As an ambitious and noble man, who had long left his old vulgar habits behind, he should have the confidence to guide his girlfriend or wife. However, looking at the current situation, Chen Fan believed that he had no other option but to simply avoid the problem altogether.

He returned to the housing estate after about five minutes. Meanwhile, Wu Ruoyu sat on the bench under the Chinese parasol tree, looking depressed. Upon seeing Chen Fan, she did not even greet him with her usual gentle gaze, like a girlfriend should.

After opening the front door of his house, the two of them entered, then sat down on the sofa. Chen Fan nudged her with his arm, asking, ”Can you put yourself in a better mood, please?”

”Don’t you dare try to change the topic. Let me ask you, between Yun Meng and me, who do you actually like better? I will not allow you to have two girlfriends at the same time!”

Wu Ruoyu’s dark-colored jacket really brought out the reddish hue of her fair skin. She glared at him, then averted her gaze immediately. Unfortunately, her action, which was supposed to be a sign of protest, looked more like she was making eyes at him instead, especially since she was such a beautiful maiden!

Dang! I should have told Jiang Shui to call me after only 10 minutes!

Although Chen Fan did feel remorseful, he still stubbornly said, ”This isn’t an issue about who I like better, as these are two completely unrelated events, yet you insist on comparing apples to oranges! No doubt, I did kiss her on the cheek, but that does not mean that we have something going on between us! This is just a harmless act of affection, okay? Look at foreigners! They hug and kiss each other on the cheek in greetings all the time!”

Wu Ruoyu understood his intentions. At that very moment, her heart was filled with anger.

This fellow was beating around the bush. If there was nothing fishy going on, why would he avoid the question, instead of addressing it more directly?

Wu Ruoyu started to speak, clenching her jaw. ”This is China. Only couples or little children and their parents will kiss each other on the cheeks. Siblings would never do that.”

Hearing this, Chen Fan quickly pecked her on the cheek.

”What are you doing?” Wu Ruoyu cupped her cheek, the anger glowing on her beautiful face.

”Tell me, what are we?” Chen Fan sat up straight, then waited for five seconds. Upon realizing that she was not going to say a single word in reply, he then said, ”We are in a relationship, right? What is the most important thing in a relationship? It is trust! We need to trust each other!”

Chen Fan waved his hands, as he further emphasized his statement. ”A person’s cognitive structure will obtain different results, when it is placed in different environments. For instance, you have always subconsciously suspected that there is something going on between Yun Meng and me. As such, I’m afraid that you will always come up with some irrational and erroneous judgment, were we to have any form of physical touch, even simple eye contact!”

Chen Fan continued, speaking aggressively. ”Allow me to draw an analogy.I feel like a person, who is being mistaken for a thief by the neighbors. Even if I were to buy a new shirt myself, the neighbors would still think that I had stolen this shirt. Even if I were to show them my receipt to prove my innocence, some people would still choose to not believe me. This is due to the fact that they might question that the receipt had been long placed inside the bag by the real owner?”

Wu Ruoyu stared at Chen Fan, open-mouthed. She looked as if she was staring at an alien. Although she knew deep inside that these words were exaggerated by rhetoric, she could not compose her thoughts in time to refute him.

”Ding Ling Ling… Ding Ling Ling…” Chen Fan’s phone ringtone broke the silence.

”Hey, what’s up?” Chen Fan answered the incoming call with a straight face.

”Boss, can you come over now? Mr Zhang from Tian Hai City just got off of the plane. He will arrive at our company in about 40 minutes…” Jiang Shui’s voice was deafening.

”Got it,” responded Chen Fan in a muffled voice. He hung up the phone and turned around, then said to Wu Ruoyu, ”Something came up with the company. I have to stop by there for a while.”

After 40 minutes, Chen Fan’s Ship Manufacturing Yard. 30 nautical miles to the north.

Chen Fan still couldn’t figure out if he was in control of one or two ships. Marriage is an extremely significant event in one’s life. Evidently, one must be tremendously cautious about it, though, so perhaps the more candidates the better!

Chen Fan sighed, then got up from the stone bed. He figured that the cart will always find a way around the hill when it gets there, and if there was no way to go, he would just buy some explosives to excavate a road!

Recently, Chen Fan had ample time to kill. He was prepared to rack his brain over the ghost moon incense. As long as he was able to complete this arduous task, the electric eel would be able to grow even stronger.

If this strength enhancement had no limitations, the electric eel would be able to boost its voltage up to a million volts. When the time came, not only would they be able to commit murder and arson, but an attack, which consisted of a continuous chain of lightning from miles away, could also be undertaken! The immense heat from the attack, which could reach up to a million degrees fahrenheit, would then be able to melt any metal objects into molten metal, all in a matter of mere seconds!

In preparation for that time, the poisonous sacs of the ghost hair jellyfish had been grilled and air-dried for a week. The sacs, which were initially the size of a little hill, had already shrunk to the size of a Chery QQ3. The slight fragrance, which was emitted by the sacs, had the electric eel drooling enthusiastically.

Under the grilling of the high-power artificial sunlight lamp, the poisonous sacs dried speedily. When Chen Fan was going to hit the sack at about 10 that evening, the electric eel, which was guarding the lake nearby, had evidently noticed that the sacs had further shrunk in size. Thus, the scent had become even stronger now.

”Ang!”

...

Suddenly, a bask of suchosaurus started emerging from the lake. The suchosaurus encircled the electric eel in an arc. They couldn’t stop howling.

”Are they out of their minds? Could it be that they are going to have a mating fest?” Upon hearing the sounds, Chen Fan shifted his conscious into the electric eel. He was baffled by the scene in front of his eyes.

This bask of suchosaurus, which were arranged from the largest to the smallest in size, were always being beaten up by the electric eel. Not only would they not go any closer to the shore towards the direction of the stone tower, but they also did not have even the courage to glance at it!

They only dared to move around the empty land on the other side of the bank, which was separated by a cliff. At the moment, they had actually gathered together, howling non-stop at the direction of the stone tower.

Could it be that…

After staring blankly at the scene for five minutes, Chen Fan suddenly understood what was going on. The bask of suchosaurus was probably attracted by the scent of the ghost moon incense! Just like the sea snake, which had snatched the food from the electric eel’s jaws, their brains subconsciously expressed the strong desire to devour the ghost moon incense.

I guess you guys are all lobsters, as all of your skulls are filled with faeces!

The ruler’s dignity was greatly provoked. This was simply atrocious! The electric eel raised its head. After letting out a howl, it immediately transformed into a sharp sword, then dashed toward the suchosaurus at a speed of 50 meters per second.

”Ang… Ang… Ang…”

The electric eel fought its way toward them. The terrifying memories, which were deeply ingrained in the minds of the suchosaurus, suddenly became magnified. They started to whimper and scramble around.

”Too late!” Chen Fan couldn’t just stand at the sidelines. He clenched his jaw, determined to beat the suchosaurus to the point that they couldn’t even move for days!

After three hours, Chen Fan’s dreams came true. None of the suchosaurus could move at all. Instead, they just floated on the water, their bellies up. It was a tragic scene.

”Howl…” The electric eel raised its long upper torso. It opened its mouth and spurted out some venom, which was stored in its belly. Before the venom could sputter more than five meters away, a long bang could be heard, as it transformed into a flaming blaze.

After basking in its grace and glory...came sleep!

…..

The scent of daybreak was like the fragrance from a young maiden’s mouth. One could not help but take two extra breaths of it. The thin mist shrouded the place like a gauzy robe, creating a hazy view.

At the side of the lake, which was situated right at the middle of the Polan District, a black and white figure sat on a bench. The two of them silently stared at the water.

”Why would you call me out so early in the morning?” said Chen Fan faintly, as he crossed his legs. He was a little annoyed. Wu Ruoyu’s phone call had woken him up!

”I couldn’t sleep…” Wu Ruoyu massaged her forehead, speaking gently. ”I’m not going to look into yesterday’s problem anymore. However, I still think your relationship with Yun Meng is a little iffy.”

”There is essentially nothing wrong with the world. If there is any sort of trouble, it’s because some foolish people have looked for it.” Chen Fan casually broke a twig from the branch beside him, then started chewing it a bit. He babbled on. ”You must change this erroneous mindset of yours. You should portray me as more of a paragon of conventional Chinese virtues in the depths of your heart. As such, all of your worries will then naturally vanish.”

”Pffsh…” Wu Ruoyu burst out laughing. She had to cough a few times to calm herself down. ”Are you trying to imply that I should hypnotize myself, or that all I’ve seen and heard was merely an illusion?”

”No! I’m just basically saying that there must be some form of mutual trust between a couple,” he retorted. ”Sometimes, I feel like you will never believe me.”

Chen Fan lay lazily back on the bench, then continued. ”When the time comes, other ridiculous ideas will inevitably pop up in your head. You will even suspect that the cold in the deep mid-winter has frozen my body to the point that my blood vessels render my manhood incapable of doing its proper job!”

”You!” They had not yet experienced any form of physical intimacy as a couple. Thus, it might be a little uncomfortable for them to freely discuss about such a vulgar topic! Hence, Wu Ruoyu, who was already blushing, extended her hand and pinched his waist as hard as she could.

”Let me pinch you, too!” Chen Fan shamelessly put his arms around her slim waist.

”No… Sss… Ah…” Wu Ruo Yu was about to push him aside, but she drew in an icy cold breath instead. She felt her hair standing on end. This was because Chen Fan suddenly put his hand underneath her shirt, then placed it right on her lower abdomen.

One must be aware of the fact that it was currently during the January thaw, and the temperature outside was freezing! So, the feeling of his icy cold hand on her warm skin sent shivers down her spine.

”Hehe…” After realizing that something was off, Chen Fan quickly took his hand out from her shirt, then hugged her gently in his arms.

”Let me go. I’m still mad!” Wu Ruoyu struggled like a kitten. She would not allow Chen Fan to have his way.

Chen Fan put his icy cold palms into his overcoat to warm them up. He then said, ”You will have to stop being mad sooner or later. Nobody can stay mad forever, right? Since your anger will subside anyways, why don’t you let it melt away a little quicker?”

After his hands were a little bit warmer than before, he put his hands underneath Wu Ruoyu’s shirt again. The whole sky looked misty, a scene further exacerbated by the heavy mist on the lake. Thus, Chen Fan was not afraid that his roguish acts would be discovered by anyone else.

”It’s freezing!” Wu Ruoyu grabbed his palms.

The warmth and comfort of touching a woman’s skin in the cold winter was indescribable. Plus, the curvature of her waist was beautiful and supple. It was exactly like how it was described in books. He could not resist his heart’s desire, as Chen Fan slipped his hand a little higher, stopping when it reached her chest.

”Are you still mad?” Chen Fan stared at her closely, his eyes giving off a sly glint.

Wu Ruo Yu definitely did not had the guts to tell him no. She blushed and immediately avoided his gaze.

”Shall we go home?” he suggested. The burning desire in his chest was ignited. All he wanted to do was to carry her to the bed and make love with her.

”No way! I must head to work soon!” Wu Ruoyu used all of her might to spit those words out from her mouth. She was no longer a child, so she knew exactly what was on Chen Fan’s mind.

”Hehe…” Chen Fan licked his chapped lips. Their relationship had progressed to such a stage that, if he were to invite her out one night, she would probably not reject him.

”Sasa, you have such big boobs!”

Wu Ruoyu blushed even harder after hearing his statement! She reached out to push his arms away. However, her energy had completely depleted to the depths of the core, so Chen Fan’s arms did not even budge.

He kept teasing and groping her, as if he was playing an instrument. After a while, Wu Ruoyu was no longer able to push his arms away. She bit her index finger with her pearl white teeth, trying to stop herself from making a sound.

Time flies when one is spending time with a beautiful woman. The sun lit up the dim sky in the blink of an eye. The gentle breeze blew across the land. The cool misty air blew on their faces.

”I’m going to work!” Wu Ruoyu ran home, as if she was intoxicated.

Meanwhile, Chen Fan laughed, as he smelled her lingering fragrance on his fingertips. Just like a general, who had just returned home in triumph, he stepped into the house, looking like the cat that ate the canary. Now, he was prepared to catch up on sleep!

He had been battling the suchosaurus till one in the morning yesterday, so he was definitely in need of some sleep. After Chen Fan touched his pillow again, he fell into a deep sleep in a matter of minutes.

”Ang!”

All of a sudden, a thunderous, earth-shattering howl was heard, coming from the underground cave in the middle of the reefs. It awakened the electric eel, who had been fast asleep. It almost jumped out from the water and landed itself on the shore, as it was completely frightened by it.

”Which dingus is shrieking at this hour?” Chen Fan opened his eyes abruptly. The suchosaurus would never be able to let out such haunting howls.

”Ang!” Five minutes later, thunderous rumbles could be heard once again.

Chen Fan finally pinpointed the sound. It was actually being emitted from the ”thing” in the lake. In other words, it came from the direction of the cliff, which traversed across the cave.

Not only was the electric eel afraid of the howls, the suchosaurus were also frightened out of their wits. Their heads, which slightly appeared on the surface of the water, disappeared in a matter of seconds. They then immediately retreated into the water, just like cowards!

”Dang! It can’t be the white unknown creature, right?” Chen Fan suddenly recalled the string of white scales that flashed in front of his eyes in the waters right under the cliff.

Chen Fan did not know what it was at that time. However, he was certain that it was not small in size, at least based on its terrifying howls. He was afraid that his initial estimation had been rather conservative.

”Kill it. It must have smelled the scent of the ghost moon incense. I bet it wants to have a taste of it now.”

Chen Fan suddenly felt goosebumps all over his skin. He then controlled the electric eel, causing it to grab the longspear and swim toward the lake. Regardless of whether it was a snake or a polysemous aquatic dragon, he figured that it must be dead!
