Primordial Chaos Dragon Tower: Harem System

Chapter 1461: The Tenth Floor - The Planet Devourer (3)

Ingrid came this close to being turned into a skewer; however, before the tendrils could pierce through her, space fractured.

Elyndra’s staff pulsed with a silver glow, and the area around Ingrid twisted violently. She was rather quick with her attacks, almost as if she saw it coming long before it happened.

Thanks to her, the two spikes that were meant to skewer Ingrid’s head and stomach phased past her by mere inches, tearing through warped space instead of flesh.

Ingrid used that split second to spin her spear, slicing one tendril clean in half.

She came close to death, but even in that gray moment, she found an opening and went for it. It appears Kent isn’t the only risk taker in the family.

Black ichor sprayed outward, hissing as it touched the unstable void. With how fierce the battle had become, the void was basically leaking.

The second tendril recoiled, but Ingrid did not retreat. She stepped forward instead, her void energy expanding even further.

With the kind of energy now leaking on the battlefield, she felt like a fish in water.

Her spear thrust forward with terrifying precision, piercing directly into the cluster of blinded eyes that Veydris had carved open.

A shrill, mind-piercing screech erupted from Vorath’s massive body, spreading out like a shockwave.

As the sound spread out, Zareth and his team felt a sense of dizziness, almost as if the mere sound contained some form of mental attack.

Zareth had already felt it once, so the second time made him frown deeply. However, before he could deduce anything, something else started to happen.

The sea of dark water below began to churn violently.

Zareth and everyone felt it immediately.

The creature was about to unleash a powerful attack, one that made their backs break into a cold sweat.

The countless remaining eyes shifted, each focusing strategically on the five bugs attacking it. The pressure in the void thickened, and cracks spiderwebbed outward from Vorath’s bloated form.

”Move back,” Zareth roared, directing his command to Ingrid.

At the moment, only Ingrid was within range where Vorath’s attack would prove fatal. Also, the eyes on its colossal body seem to focus more on her.

Zareth knew he had to act since she wouldn’t be able to escape easily this time.

A pulse of devouring Qi erupted from his serpent, swallowing the corrosive energy gathering around Ingrid. At the same time, Enkay, who also sensed the danger, raised his scythe high, dark flames igniting along its curved blade.

Unlike how Uncle Drew harnesses green hellflame, Enkay’s was crimson and black.

”Hellfire Bloom.”

The crimson-black flames twisted unnaturally, burning like fuel had been added to them. He swung downward, and a crescent of hellfire shot forward, carving across Vorath’s rotting skin.

Where the flames touched, the flesh did not regenerate—it charred and withered.

It was a bit strange, but it worked.

Vorath convulsed.

Several tendrils lashed wildly in retaliation, smashing into the sea beneath and sending massive waves of necrotic water into the air.

However, as the water shot up into the air, the droplets did not fall like normal liquid should. Instead, they floated, each drop containing dense, concentrated Necrotic Qi.

As they condensed, Elyndra sensed the danger immediately. It took her a moment to make sense of what was happening.

Her eyes widened as the realization finally clicked. ”Don’t let that touch you.”

She slammed her staff down, creating layered space barriers that redirected the floating droplets away from the team.

Still, as if my design, one drop slipped through and struck the serpent’s tail. The scales blackened instantly, decay spreading like a disease.

Zareth gritted his teeth and pressed his palm forward. Although his serpent is merely a construct, if it were to be corrupted, he would also be affected, even worse, injured deep in the soul.

So he had to prevent that from happening.

Devouring Qi surged, consuming the corruption before it could spread further.

But in that moment of distraction, Vorath changed tactics.

Under normal circumstances, once one gets the upper hand to deal some dire damage, just like how Zareth was affected by the necrotic water, the most logical move is to attack and deal more heavy damage.

However, Vorath didn’t do that. Instead, it adopted an unconventional method, one that Zareth and his team never expected.

Vorath’s bloated body suddenly stilled.

For a brief second, the battlefield fell into an eerie silence.

The floating droplets of necrotic water froze midair, the fractured void stopped trembling, and even the sea beneath ceased its violent churning.

That unnatural stillness made Zareth’s heart sink.

”Something bad is about to happen.”

From the start of the battle, he could sense this bone-chilling danger that, regardless of how he looked at it, he just couldn’t place his finger on where it was coming from.

Now, he seemed to have finally sensed exactly where the danger was coming from. But before he could make a move to mitigate it, something changed.

Every remaining eye that Veydris hadn’t blinded rotated at once.

They did not look at Ingrid. They did not look at Enkay. They locked onto him.

At the same time, a deep, resonant hum spread outward, vibrating through bone and soul alike.

The tendrils that had been flailing wildly retracted toward Vorath’s body, coiling tightly around it like a grotesque shield.

Then, in an eerie manner, the countless eyes began glowing with a sickly green-black light. Right when they started to glow, the unstable void around Zareth thickened, as if gravity itself had multiplied.

”Heads up,” Elyndra shouted, slamming her staff down again, harnessing her space abilities.

Space bent around Zareth, but this time the distortion resisted her. Just when her space magic took effect, the space around her attack became corrupted, canceling out her space distortion ability.

”Oh no,” she panicked.

Ingrid, who could come to Zareth’s aid, was also locked in a formation created by the corrupted necrotic water.

Even if she could break the formation, it would be too late to do anything for him.

On the other hand, Enkay, who could do something, was also blocked by a tendril that looked darker than the others. His scythe bounced off it when he tried severing it.

That was a clear indication that he could not aid his pal.

As for Veydris, nobody knew what he would do since his mission was to make sure the bastard was blinded and, if possible, killed.

His mission details are clear as crystal.

From where he stood, the moment Zareth found himself surrounded and with nowhere to go, Vorath would also become vulnerable, creating the perfect opening for him to go for the kill.

Of course, a normal person would prioritize Zareth’s safety.

However, Veydris is a battle doll. In his perfect analysis, he sees Zareth as an undead who just could not die even if he wanted to.

So, since that was the case, he would go for the kill, sacrificing Zareth’s undead life for the greater good. He would be revived later, just like the last time.

And so, with nobody coming to his aid, Zareth could only watch as Elyndra tried her best to save him, yet Vorath’s attack kept blocking the way.

A second later, Vorath unleashed its attack.

A concentrated beam of condensed necrotic essence shot from dozens of eyes simultaneously, converging into a single torrent aimed directly at Zareth and the serpent beneath him.

The beam came with such corruption that, as it traveled, the very space around it started to decay. It was as if reality itself was being corrupted by it.

Zareth saw it. His death was in that beam coming toward him, and no matter how much energy he harnessed, he knew there was no surviving it.

He could only watch as the beam sped toward him.

”NOOOOO!” Ingrid’s scream filled the space.

However, she was just too far to make any difference.

Suddenly, just when the beam was a few meters away, golden lightning churned from the cloud, followed by a voice that spread across the space.

”Here I come.”
