Earth's Greatest Magus

The Heaven and Earth Alchemy event concluded with an outcome no one had anticipated. A previously unknown beastman alchemist had emerged victorious, securing first place in the prestigious competition. Many in the audience found it difficult to believe, yet none dared to question the Grandmaster’s decision. And just like that, the name Emery spread like wildfire among the alchemists and influential figures alike.

“I think I overdid it…”

Emery muttered under his breath as he observed the astonished expressions surrounding him. He had expected to perform well, but achieving the highest honor in such a renowned event was beyond anything he had anticipated. The energy in the hall was electric, the murmurs of disbelief growing into cheers of excitement as his achievement fully sank in.

Shortly after, his name was officially called, summoning him to the front of the grand stage. Alongside him stood two famous grade-8 alchemists, Galeli and Ada, both of whom had been favorites to win. Then, two more names followed: the fey-clan prodigy Kaeylin, the only other competitor who had managed to create a tier-9 pill, and finally, the massive and imposing figure of Graknar Blueflame—a towering giant race alchemist, nearly twice the size of the others on stage. His deep-blue skin shimmered under the hall’s light as he walked with measured steps to join the rest of the winners.

As the five stood before the audience, Grandmaster Caliborne raised a hand, instantly silencing the lingering murmurs.

“These are the five champions of this generation’s Heaven and Earth Alchemy event.”

A thunderous applause erupted across the grand hall, rising into a standing ovation. Emery scanned the sea of faces before him, noting familiar figures in the crowd. Among them was Shinta, his daughter, who stood with an expression of pure pride. Her gaze never wavered from him, her hands clenched in excitement.

Each of the five winners was awarded a distinguished medal, a symbol of their mastery in the art of alchemy. Additionally, they were each presented with an exquisite crystal embedded with valuable points that could be exchanged for the Skyroot Clan’s most treasured artifacts—rewards that even high-ranking Magus factions would covet. With this, the competition officially concluded, marking the beginning of a grand celebration.

All twenty-five competing alchemists, along with a select hundreds of notable guests, were invited to a lavish feast that evening. The finished products of the contest would be displayed at the event, allowing guests to marvel at the wonders crafted by the world’s finest alchemists. It was an opportunity not just for admiration but also for forging new alliances and strengthening connections.

But for now, the alchemists were granted a well-deserved moment of respite.

As soon as Emery returned to his residence, he was greeted by an enthusiastic embrace from Shinta.

“Congratulations, Father! I knew you would win!” she exclaimed, her eyes shining with pride.

Emery chuckled softly, resting a hand on her head. “Thank you”

Though he appreciated her excitement, exhaustion weighed heavily on him. He would have liked to celebrate, but his mind was already fixated on something else—the newfound enlightenment he had gained through the competition. More than anything, he needed time to meditate, to absorb the intricate balance of forces he had uncovered. After expressing his gratitude to his team and reassuring Shinta that they would talk later, he excused himself and entered his chamber.

Settling into a lotus position, Emery took a deep breath, allowing the echoes of the competition to resurface in his mind. The clash of opposing forces, the delicate balance he had achieved in his alchemical creation—it had been unlike anything he had ever experienced before. That moment of absolute harmony, where Heaven and Earth intertwined, still resonated within him. He could feel it lingering, pulsing deep in his core, waiting to be unraveled.

With slow, measured breaths, he activated his inner domain.

The world around him shifted.

Emery opened his eyes to find himself hovering within his Magus Domain, an endless expanse that existed within the depths of his soul. Above him, the sky was painted in an eternal twilight, streaks of golden radiance intertwining with deep, swirling darkness. Below him, the vast terrain of his domain stretched in two extremes—the lush, vibrant forest where the Elysian Tree thrived, radiating an aura of pure vitality, and the jagged, obsidian mountain where Khaos raged, a churning maelstrom of destruction and chaos.

For years, these two forces had been at war within him. The power of creation and the force of destruction, constantly colliding, constantly resisting one another. Yet now, something had changed.

The friction that had once hindered his progress had diminished. The opposition had softened, replaced by an unsteady but undeniable synergy. Instead of clashing violently, the two forces now swirled around him, moving in a complex but rhythmic dance. A connection had been forged, tenuous yet profound.

Emery stretched out his hands, channeling his awareness into both elements. The Elysian Tree responded first, its ancient roots pulsing with emerald energy, spreading through the air like glowing veins of life. His body hummed with warmth, his breathing deepening as the flow of nature’s law filled him with boundless vitality. Then, the other half of his power stirred. From the darkened peak of the mountain, tendrils of crackling void energy spiraled toward him, twisting like living shadows. The oppressive weight of Khaos wrapped around him, cold and consuming, yet instead of suffocating his light, it coiled alongside it.

A surge of energy coursed through his core. His body trembled, his mind expanding as knowledge and insight flooded his consciousness. It was as if an unseen shackle had loosened, as if something that had once been rigid was now flowing freely within him. The laws of nature shifted in his grasp, no longer mere concepts, but something tangible, something he could mold with clarity.

[Your comprehension of the law has improved.]

[Soul force increased exponentially.]

Emery gasped as his spirit quivered. The growth was immediate—his senses sharpened, his perception of energy intensifying. He could feel everything. The pulse of life in every leaf of the Elysian Tree. The furious hunger in every ember of Khaos. He was no longer simply channeling them; he was part of them.

He had never been this close before. His power was aligning. He was one step away from true equilibrium. One step away from unlocking the final piece to his Grand Magus breakthrough.

Yet, something was still missing.

A final puzzle piece, just out of his grasp.

Then, a sharp sensation ran down his spine.

A presence,

Despite the strict rules forbidding any interruptions during an alchemist’s rest, someone was approaching his residence. Emery’s instincts flared, instantly putting him on alert. Who would dare to intrude at such a time?
