Earth's Greatest Magus

The final and most anticipated alchemy event was set within the heart of Skyroot Mountain, in a specially constructed arena designed to accommodate thousands of spectators. The grand circular coliseum towered above the participants, with thirty elevated platforms spread evenly around its center. Each alchemist had been assigned their own personal stage—a sacred space to showcase their skill and mastery of the craft.

The most striking feature of the arena, however, was the eight towering pillars encircling the competition area. These massive columns, adorned with ancient rune markings, were not mere decorations. Emery could sense the powerful enchantments they contained, likely serving to enhance or contain the energies that would soon fill the space.

Grand Master Calidorne, the highest-ranking alchemist of the Skyroot faction, rose from the main platform, his regal robes shimmering in the afternoon light. His presence alone commanded respect, and as he lifted his hand, the entire coliseum fell into hushed anticipation.

“Welcome, esteemed guests and gifted alchemists!” His deep voice carried effortlessly across the arena. “Today, we gather to witness the pinnacle of alchemical artistry. Twenty-five brilliant minds shall compete, but only five will earn the honor of recognition. And among them, one shall claim the highest glory. Let the event begin!”

As Calidorne spoke, Emery’s gaze wandered across the audience. Among the thousands in attendance, the most notable figures occupied the VIP stands: the princely envoys from the grand Pardera Palace, influential faction leaders, and even representatives from prestigious alchemy guilds. The competition had drawn not only the best alchemists but also those who sought to recruit them.

Then came the moment they had been waiting for.

“Participants, step forward!” Calidorne announced.

Each competitor ascended their respective platforms, greeted by the roaring cheers of the crowd. Among them, two figures stood out as the clear favorites, both renowned for their formidable skills.

The first was Galael the Ember Sage, a ruthless alchemist known for his aggressive approach to fire-elemental elixirs. His crimson robes fluttered as he stepped forward, and the moment his name was announced, the crowd erupted in thunderous applause.

Then there was Ada Velace, the Rose of Aether. Her elegant movements and meticulous crafting techniques had earned her immense popularity. Unlike Galael, who dominated through sheer force, Ada was a master who danced on the edge of art and science.

Although these two were expected to battle for the top position, there were other noteworthy contenders. Most of the two dozen noble alchemists were grade 7, each famous within their faction or region, and considered pillars of the realm. The noble alchemist Ivaris had secured a strong reputation, while among the newcomers, there was the blue-skinned giant Graknar Blueflame, a high elf named Vale, and the fey girl Kaelyn.

Kaelyn, in particular, possessed an enchanting aura that mesmerized those who laid eyes upon her. Her long, silver-blue hair shimmered like woven moonlight, and her emerald eyes glowed with an almost supernatural depth. When she stepped onto her platform, a hush fell over the audience, as if even the wind itself paused to admire her presence.

And then, there was Emery.

Despite having secured first place in the selection phase, most of the audience dismissed him as a fluke—a talented but obscure competitor who had yet to prove himself among the true elites. If anyone placed bets on him, they were likely hoping for a miracle.

“You may begin!” Calidorne declared, signaling the start of the event.

A resounding chime echoed through the arena as the alchemists sprang into action. Each had precisely eight hours to craft their best possible creation using the resources they had acquired from the secret realms.

“Let’s start!”

Emery immediately set to work alongside his team. Baldoni began preparing the ingredients while Emery retrieved his [Starforge Furnace] and instructed Livi to start heating it up with her newly enhanced flames.

“I’m on it, Master!” she responded eagerly.

As he watched the two working, Emery took a moment to glance around, observing his competitors. Each alchemist displayed a distinct approach, reflecting their expertise and lineage.

Galael, as expected, wasted no time in setting his cauldron ablaze with his flames. Even from a distance, Emery could feel the heat radiating from his platform. The Ember Sage moved with confidence as if he had already won.

Ada, on the other hand, exhibited an almost ethereal grace. She utilized a formation of floating vials, each containing a precisely measured liquid, which mixed together in midair before settling into her cauldron.

Meanwhile, the blue-skinned Graknar drew attention as he crushed his ingredients with his bare hands, mixing them into a dark, bubbling potion. His technique was crude but effective, channeling raw alchemical energy into his brew.

Vale, the high elf, did not create much movement. He and his two elven assistants stood calm, yet their ingredients began to move on their own, coalescing with one another. The trio of high elves were masters of spirit reading, concocting their potion through sheer soul power.

The fey girl Kaelyn was an entirely different spectacle. Her method was deeply attuned to nature, involving rare plants that seemed to respond to her touch, releasing their essences with minimal effort. Vines curled around her wrists, aiding her in handling delicate herbs. Her potion, a shimmering green liquid, pulsed faintly with life, resembling something more akin to nature’s purest essence than a mere alchemical brew.

Watching each of them work filled Emery with wonder. Apothecary had always been his joy, and these alchemists were showing him techniques he had never seen in the Magus realm. The fascination stirred a hint of insecurity within him.

He shook off such thoughts and decided to focus on his work. He had come prepared, and today, he would create the best apothecary potion he had ever made.

As the hours passed, the excitement in the audience reached a fever pitch. Whispers of predictions filled the air, debates raged among scholars and nobles alike, and all eyes remained locked on the alchemists who were pushing the very boundaries of their craft.

Who would emerge victorious?
