Earth's Greatest Magus

Emery knew that most of his competitors had spent months, even years, preparing for this competition, hoping to make a name for themselves. However, the competition required the use of ingredients from the Skyroot Secret Realm. While many of the alchemists might have some knowledge of the realm’s flora and fauna, acquiring the right ingredients was another challenge altogether. Some competitors had to hastily modify their recipes to adapt to what they managed to gather, while others scrambled to make sense of unfamiliar materials.

For Emery, however, the Skyroot Secret Realm had been a trove of rare and high-tier ingredients. After a deliberate and thorough analysis, he devised a bold yet familiar recipe—an enhanced version of one of his most successful creations, something that had already proven its worth in the Magus Realm. He planned to create an upgraded form of the highly sought-after [360 Celestial Meridian Pill], a body-enhancing pill that was based on the celestial recipe and was perfected through years of experimentation.

The decision wasn’t made lightly. Emery had observed cosmic experts in battle and noted a common weakness—their over-reliance on spirit or soul power for physical enhancements. Compared to their mastery over energy, their natural physique often lacked the resilience needed in prolonged combat. Furthermore, high-grade body-enhancing pills were rare within this realm, making his creation all the more valuable.

However, concocting such a pill was far from simple. It took a combination of VIA’s analytical prowess—dissecting data from hundreds of ingredients—and Emery’s creative ingenuity to arrive at the final formula. The complexity of the potion required two separate concoctions, which would later be merged into a single, harmonious creation. But these weren’t just two different mixtures; they were opposing elemental forces, making the process infinitely more challenging.

As the competition timer ticked forward, Emery worked with meticulous precision, his hands a blur as he processed over three dozen ingredients.

He maximized their efficiency through careful methods. Each step was deliberate, an intricate dance between magic and science.

Meanwhile, his assistant, Baldoni, worked on the light-based concoction. As a cosmic expert with high proficiency in fire and light, Baldoni was the perfect choice for handling the more radiant side of the potion. His cauldron glowed with a golden hue as he carefully balanced the ingredients, focusing on reinforcing the body’s vitality and endurance. The core of his mixture revolved around the Tier 7 [Mana Flame Petal]—a radiant flower imbued with celestial fire that burned with perpetual energy. To harness its full potential, Baldoni employed his specialty—[Undying Flames].

He poured a thin stream of his controlled flame into the cauldron, allowing the Mana Flame Petal to blossom fully within the liquid’s embrace. Slowly, he added refined essence from light-infused herbs, each ingredient dissolving into the shimmering potion like stardust melting into the cosmos. His concentration never wavered, his spirit energy keeping the entire process stable.

On the opposite side of the platform, Emery handled the dark, opposing mixture—one filled with deadly poisons and chilling energy. Where Baldoni’s cauldron radiated warmth, Emery’s emitted an eerie, bone-chilling cold. He worked carefully, channeling the power of Khaos, calling upon Chututlu’s influence to suppress the volatile nature of the ingredients. The [Lunar Veil Mycelium], one of the most potent ingredients he had found in the secret realm, formed the core of this dark elixir. Its natural property was to slow energy flow and reinforce internal resilience—perfectly counterbalancing the vitality-enhancing effects of Baldoni’s mixture.

However, managing such volatile ingredients requires extreme focus. A single mistake could ruin the entire concoction. Emery activated his [Prism of Light] technique, boosting his soul power to enhance his precision and fortify his mind against distractions.

Halfway into the competition, the atmosphere in the arena grew tense as alchemists unleashed their secret techniques. The competition was reaching a critical stage, and the spectators were enthralled by the various methods displayed.

Across the stage, Graknar, the giant blue-skinned alchemist, revealed his savage approach. He pulled out a cage filled with writhing, purple-scaled serpents. His assistants swiftly butchered them, extracting their venomous organs and mixing them directly into his cauldron. The sight was both brutal and mesmerizing—a raw display of primal alchemy that captivated the audience.

Meanwhile, Kaelyn, the mysterious Fey clan alchemist, demonstrated an entirely different approach. Her platform bloomed with an enchanting array of flora, each plant glowing with rich nature energy. The potion she brewed pulsed with vitality as if the very essence of life itself danced within her cauldron. The spectators gasped in awe, mesmerized by the dazzling spectacle of magic-infused herbs floating around her, releasing radiant energy into the potion.

Despite the fierce competition, Emery remained undeterred, his mind solely focused on the delicate balance he needed to achieve. Unlike the others, he was crafting two separate concoctions that had to be merged at just the right moment. He carefully monitored Baldoni’s progress, ensuring that the light-infused potion maintained its stability while steadily refining his own chilling mixture.

As the final hour approached, the tension in the arena reached its peak. The alchemists, drenched in sweat and spirit energy, began to finalize their creations. The arena pulsed with magical energy, a testament to the intense concentration and skill being displayed.

Emery’s eyes gleamed with determination. The time had come for the final step—the merging of the two opposing mixtures. With precise timing, he guided Livi to increase the temperature of the Starforge Cauldron, stabilizing the concoction as he carefully poured Baldoni’s golden elixir into his own.

A surge of energy erupted from the cauldron as the two forces collided, swirling in light and darkness. The golden and dark liquids clashed violently at first, but Emery remained resolute, channeling his mastery of alchemy to bring harmony to the elements. His soul force enveloped the cauldron, weaving through the mixture like an invisible hand, coaxing the energies into balance.

The audience held their breath. Even Grand Magus Soltz, who had initially doubted Emery’s approach, leaned forward, his keen eyes watching intently.

Will Emery be able to succeed?
