Chapter 328: Alcohol and Hot Spring

Aria took a delicate sip first. Her eyes widened instantly, surprise dancing in them as she pulled back. “Wait, this is alcohol?!” She blinked, as though she hadn’t fully believed it until the taste hit. Her lips curved into a bright, childish grin. “It’s really nice! I thought it would be bitter or burn, but this one’s… kind of like juice!”

Kaiden chuckled, nodding knowingly. “That’s because you got the sweet one.”

Aria beamed, satisfied with the reasoning of her beloved. With a content hum, she nestled closer against his shoulder, her smile turning soft as she tilted her head to rest just beneath his jawline. From there, she watched Nyx and Luna’s bickering with a motherly amusement, as though she were watching children fight over candy rather than acting like women her own age.

On Kaiden’s other side, Bastet raised her glass with a feline caution. Instead of tipping it back for a gulp, she brought it to her lips and extended her tongue in the most literal way possible, lapping at the golden fizz like a housecat drinking milk. The tiny, precise movements of her tongue, the faint twitch of her ears, and her narrowed golden eyes focused in suspicion made the entire motion utterly, irresistibly adorable.

Kaiden couldn’t help it; a loving laugh escaped him as he watched her go at it with a stubborn kind of dignity.

Bastet glanced at him with side eyes, and instantly, her lips curled upward to show she’d caught his amusement, but she didn’t stop. She just kept sipping in her peculiar way, as though that were the most natural method of drinking suspicious things in the world.

Finally, Kaiden picked up two glasses, one of each, and tried them for himself. He took a measured sip of the first, humming in approval. “Mmh. Smooth. Sweet.” Then the second, and his face crinkled into a lesser version of the sour grimace Luna had worn, earning himself an instant round of laughter from all four girls at once. Their surprise was clear to see, having expected him to take it without struggle. But they forgot to consider that…

“What? Why do you look at me as if I were a hopeless alcoholic? I barely ever drank in my life.”

Indeed, Kaiden was only 22 years old, and back in his college days, he wasn’t exactly the king of partying.

He grinned widely as he set the glasses back down and dismissively shrugged his shoulders. “I guess I’m not refined either.”

It was a simple but tender, warm moment, one that contrasted greatly against the chaos of the chat.

– JusticeForAwakened: When are you going to stop hiding and retake the awakened test, you coward? We deserve to see proof of foul play!

– TechMage42: How did you delete videos from hard drives?! What kind of invasive magic do you wield in secret?!

– ConspiracyCrusader: Stop pretending, I know you’re an alien spy preparing to invade with your vast armies!

As the dislikes mounted and the keyboard warriors continued frothing at the mouth, Kaiden slowly rose to his feet with a lazy stretch, setting his glasses aside. He took a look at the chat for a moment, but despite what he saw, his grin was easy.

“Anyway… we rented this whole place. Wouldn’t it be a waste to only sit around drinking?”

The girls perked up instantly. Four pairs of eyes lit with expectation, their nods coming in unison.

“Hot spring time it is then,” Kaiden added with a chuckle, and that was all it took.

In a sweep of rustling fabric, robes were slipped off, fluttering down onto the couches. But this time, what they revealed wasn’t the daring display of flawless skin and suggestive cut one might’ve expected. Instead, each of them stood in modest bathing clothes. Still undeniably flattering, still making their beauty impossible to hide, but nothing that screamed “Look at me. Aren’t I hot as hell?”

Kaiden had made a decision before the evening began. Tonight wasn’t for showing his women off, nor would any of the coming days in the future ever be. He had no interest in the eyes of men devouring what belonged to him. So when he asked them to bring outfits they’d be comfortable wearing in a public bath, none had argued.

Luna had chosen a soft lilac wrap that hugged her waist but floated free at her legs, delicate and breezy.

Nyx wore a black halter dress-style piece, modest yet mischievous in how it hinted at curves beneath.

Aria went for something sporty and simple, a two-piece covered by a light short-sleeved vest, just as cheerful-colored as her current mood.

And Bastet, the only one who had outright said she’d prefer to be completely naked in the scenario Kaiden had painted, thanks to being utterly indifferent to what any “random” thought of her, had been personally dressed by Kaiden himself in a white sundress cut for bathing. It was airy, comfortable, and impossibly cute on the tanned felinid, especially as her golden eyes smoldered with a touch of feline annoyance that only made her more endearing.

Together they padded into the next room, and the air changed instantly.

Warm steam rolled over them in a welcome embrace, carrying the clean scent of mineral-rich water. The room was traditional to its core with smooth stone flooring, pale wooden walls, and lantern-light glimmering against the water’s surface. A bubbling spring filled most of the chamber.

The moment the girls stepped inside, their bodies seemed to melt with relief. Shoulders dropped, lips parted, and their earlier bickering was forgotten in favor of soft sighs and murmurs of delight.

“Ahhh… so warm…” Bastet exhaled in utmost bliss, her silent protests of having to wear such a strange cloth dying instantly.

“The Japanese truly know what they’re doing…” Nyx chimed, stretching languidly. “Speaking of, Kai, when are you planning to pick up a hot Japanese babe? I want to learn how to make sushi.”

“That’s racist, stupid bimbo… Not all Japanese know how to make sushi…” Luna muttered weakly, dissolving in real time thanks to the warm water.

“And we don’t need a Japanese girl in the harem for that! Go sign up for a culinary course!” Aria added with a strong hint of disappointment seeping through her feminine scoff.

As the girls settled, and before Aria or Bastet—the two who clung most greedily to him—could try to monopolize his warmth, Kaiden made his move.

With a sudden, decisive sweep, he grabbed Nyx by the waist and tugged her down onto his left thigh. At the same moment, his right hand snagged Luna, pulling her down onto his other leg. Both girls let out sharp, startled yelps, only to dissolve into giggles as they found themselves seated snugly against him.

“Kai!” Nyx laughed, full of joy.

Luna, for once, offered no protest. The beautiful girl with a delicate-looking body simply leaned back against his chest, her stormy pride melting into a content smile she couldn’t suppress.

The steam wrapped around them, their laughter echoing gently off the wooden walls. The spring was theirs, private and warm, and for the first time that night, the chaos of the outside world truly felt distant as if it wasn’t even real, a problem from another life.

Kaiden let the warmth sink into his bones, the laughter of the Valkyries and beloved felinid spilling into his ears. For once, everything felt right. Whole. He thought, with a silent conviction that was harder than any metal:

‘This… I’ll protect this no matter what it costs me.’

That was when he got a notification.

A world-famous awakened had made an unexpected appearance!
