Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 700: Breaking News! A Robbery on the Road! Two People Injured!

“Xiao He, hurry, something happened. Come to the hospital with me!”

As soon as he saw Xiao He, James slowed his pace, but his tone grew even more urgent.

“What’s going on?”

Xiao He froze for a moment, then his expression suddenly turned icy cold. A dangerous chill—sharp, like a blade scraping across the skin—swept through James’s entire body with a bone-piercing draft, making him stop in his tracks and shiver involuntarily.

But when he looked back at Xiao He’s face, he found the young man’s expression normal, with no terrifying aura around him. That moment just now felt like nothing more than an illusion.

James swallowed the words he was about to say, adjusted his glasses, and stared at Xiao He with a mix of surprise and uncertainty. Behind the lenses, his eyes carried a different kind of light.

“What exactly happened?”

Xiao He frowned, looking at James with some impatience, wondering why the other man had suddenly fallen silent.

“Oh, right. It’s Manager Liu. They ran into some trouble and are at the hospital now.”

James shook off his complicated thoughts and spoke quickly.
“Is anyone hurt?”

Xiao He asked, his voice tense as he turned to look for the car. A staff member walked over and handed him back the car keys he had just returned. “Go ahead and use it. We’ll handle the final checks here.”

“Thanks.”

Xiao He didn’t refuse the kindness. He took the keys and gestured for James to join him. “Talk on the way.”

“Alright.” James didn’t hesitate either. He got into the car decisively and explained to Xiao He, “Manager Liu said that on their way back, someone smashed their car window to rob them. Your assistant got a cut on his arm from the glass, but nothing else serious.”

“A robbery on the road?”

Xiao He frowned. He never imagined such a thing could happen in this day and age.

“Yeah, the motorcycle gangs around here are getting bolder by the day.”

James nodded, a hint of regret on his face. “I should have warned you. Faces like yours are easy targets around here right now.”

That’s just how things were.

Xiao He gripped the steering wheel tighter and said nothing more, pressing harder on the gas.

...

The drive was wild and reckless.

It only took ten minutes for Xiao He and James to reach the hospital.

Xiao He parked the car and immediately strode toward the building, while James, who had just endured a nerve-wracking high-speed ride, sat dazed for a moment before finally snapping out of it. He fumbled with his seatbelt, then hurriedly grabbed the keys and followed him out.

Xiao He followed the signs to the corresponding department corridor, where Xiao Chen happened to be standing in the hallway, talking with Liu Rulan.

Hearing the hurried footsteps, both of them turned to look, meeting Xiao He’s worried gaze.

“Brother Xiao!”

Xiao Chen’s voice cracked the moment he spoke. He was clearly still shaken. Liu Rulan, on the other hand, seemed in better shape, hands tucked into her pockets, maintaining a certain elegance and calm. She nodded at Secretary James, who was behind Xiao He, to express her thanks.

“What happened? Where are you hurt?”

Xiao He strode up to Xiao Chen and began looking him over from head to toe.

Xiao Chen was about the same age as Xiao He, a young guy who usually hung around Sister Liu. He had never encountered such a “dangerous” situation before. So when faced with Xiao He’s questions, his emotions got the better of him. The wound was still throbbing with phantom pain, and his eyes reddened as he raised his bandaged arm to complain to Xiao He: “My hand got cut by the glass. They stitched it up—two stitches just now. Sister Liu also sprained her wrist. They just sprayed some medicine and put it in a brace.”

After going through something so terrifying, how could he not talk about it?

He immediately launched into a vivid account of what had happened. “Brother Xiao, you have no idea how scary it was! A motorcycle followed behind us, and when the road got a little congested, they just chased us down, smashed our window, and started frantically grabbing at our bags...”

At the time, Sister Liu’s car was driving normally on the way back, moving at a pretty fast speed. They never expected to run into anything like this.

So when the two robbers threw rocks and shattered the car window, Xiao Chen was completely caught off guard, dazed and confused.

Old Qi, who had to focus on driving, couldn’t spare a hand to fight back. He also didn’t dare to jerk the steering wheel on purpose to ram the two robbers, afraid of causing a fatal accident. In the end, it was Liu Rulan who made the quick decision. She grabbed the large bag from the seat and threw it straight at the man on the motorcycle, choosing to buy their safety with money.

Sure enough, the two robbers must have been watching them and knew which bag contained the most valuable stuff. When Liu Rulan tossed out the bag holding the camera equipment, they stopped chasing. After dodging the thrown bag, they turned around to pick it up.

That was when everyone noticed that Xiao Chen’s arm had been cut by the flying glass shards, and Liu Rulan, in her rush to throw the bag, had strained her wrist, leaving the back of her hand badly swollen.

So Old Qi quickly drove them to the nearest hospital for treatment.

“Sister Liu is hurt too? Why didn’t you say anything on the phone?”

After listening to Xiao Chen’s story, Xiao He immediately turned to look at Liu Rulan, anger flashing across his face.

—No wonder she had kept her hands in her pockets the whole time!

He had thought Sister Liu wasn’t usually one to show off like that.

Seeing that she couldn’t hide it anymore, Liu Rulan had no choice but to reveal her bandaged splint, a hint of awkward embarrassment on her face. “Uh, I just twisted it by accident. It’s not a big deal.”

This whole thing was really frustrating to talk about.

There were three of them, driving a large van. Old Qi was an experienced bodyguard. And the other side only had two people, riding a flimsy motorcycle that would tip over at the slightest bump. At the time, no one even noticed whether the two guys were carrying weapons. In the end, the result was: the stuff was gone, and two people were injured.

If word of this got back home, Liu Rulan couldn’t even imagine how everyone else would mock her.

Seeing Liu Rulan’s hand, Xiao Chen also felt a pang of guilt. “I shouldn’t have brought so much equipment. Then they wouldn’t have targeted us.”

But Xiao He shook his head. “If we’re placing blame, I’m the one who asked you to help with the filming. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have brought all this gear. So according to your logic, it should be my fault.”

Xiao Chen lowered his head and said nothing, clearly in a bad mood.

Xiao He didn’t console him further. His face was still sour as he looked around and asked in a grim tone, “What about Old Qi? Is he okay?”

“He’s fine. He went to handle the paperwork. A few police officers also came by just now to ask about the situation.”

Liu Rulan explained on Old Qi’s behalf. “He feels really bad about this too. He’d been on high alert the whole way. Anyone who got close to us, he blocked. But I didn’t arrange for enough people this time. He had to drive and protect us at the same time, and in that situation, there was no way for him to deal with those two.”

After all, being abroad meant many things were limiting. In that moment, she didn’t dare tell Old Qi to stop the car, afraid there might be accomplices nearby. And she definitely couldn’t let him just yank the wheel and send the two guys flying.

Besides, that stretch of road was supposedly a busy area. There were plenty of other cars coming and going, and it even got congested from time to time. It was the kind of place with lots of people. Yet those two had the nerve to rob them right out in the open on a main road. The surrounding cars just drove by normally, completely ignoring what was happening. Afterward, no one stepped up to help or provide evidence... This whole thing felt like a dream—a bad one.

No one wanted to run into an accident like this. No one had expected it either.

So afterward, as the only one without a scratch and with the job of being a bodyguard, Old Qi blamed himself deeply. But Liu Rulan and Xiao Chen never held it against him.

“I understand.”

Xiao He took a deep breath. “I’m just going to find him and get the full story. You two stay put and rest here.”

Then he turned and spoke earnestly to James. “Mr. James, could you please keep an eye on them? I’m going to find my driver and handle the follow-up.”

“Sure.”

James nodded decisively.

So Xiao He turned to leave.

“Xiao He!”

The female agent behind him hesitated, then suddenly called out to stop him.

“Hmm?”

Xiao He turned around, looking at Liu Rulan who had called him.

Looking at Sister Liu now, he noticed that her outfit today was very plain compared to usual. The only big difference was her unusually messy hair. It seemed that although she hadn’t said anything on the surface about what happened today, she had probably been scared out of her wits as well.

Liu Rulan looked at Xiao He, whose aura had completely changed since they met, and seemed to struggle with what to say.

This guy probably hadn’t looked in a mirror, had he? His expression was terrifyingly dark, like he was ready to grab a knife and go hunt someone down at any moment.

But Liu Rulan also knew that Xiao He always acted with restraint.

In the end, the woman opened her mouth, closed it, and after a long pause, finally managed to utter a single sentence: “Be careful.”
