Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1059: Chapter 1053: Want to Make a Cake_1 Chapter 1059: Chapter 1053: Want to Make a Cake_1 Qin Xue really didn’t know how much cakes cost now. In her later life, a 21-inch cake would sell for about two hundred bucks. In this time, she wasn’t sure if cakes even existed. But as soon as she heard her mother say it was her sister’s birthday, she couldn’t help but think – no birthday is complete without a birthday cake. So she voiced out her thought.

However, after hearing her sister’s words, she learned that they did have cakes there now, but they weren’t affordable, otherwise her sister wouldn’t have responded in the way she did.

“How much?” Qin Xue asked, spotting steaming buns on the stove. She picked one up and took a bite.

“This much for such a small piece.” Qin Jiale gestured the size of the cake with her palm, then held up a finger.

“Ten cents?” Nangong Shulan asked upon seeing her younger daughter’s gestures.

“Mom, ten cents, are you kidding? It’s a dollar.” Qin Jiale rolled her eyes at her mother’s remark. If it were ten cents, everyone could afford it, and it wouldn’t be such a luxury. Really.

“While slightly expensive, it’s still manageable.” Qin Xue soon polished off a bun, dusted her hands and commented.

“Alright, you’re the rich one, you make the call.” Qin Jiale couldn’t help but admire her sister’s recklessness. She must have no idea about the real price of necessities, must she?

“One dollar for such a small piece, it’s a rip-off. I can get a big bun and a bowl of porridge for just sixty cents.” Nangong Shulan exclaimed.

“Mom, the country is reforming, and society is changing.” Qin Xue and Qin Jiale said in unison, and then exited the kitchen.

Watching the two of them walk away, Nangong Shulan shook her head. Has she been out of touch with society for too long?

“Sis, can you really make a cake?” Qin Jiale caught up with her sister and asked.

“Sure, if you want to eat it, go buy the ingredients and I’ll make it for you.” Qin Xue planned to catch up on some sleep.

“What ingredients do we need?” Qin Jiale was worried they couldn’t make the cake if too many ingredients were required, as the market only opened half a day before everyone went home to celebrate the New Year, and a good chunk of the day had passed already.

“I’ll make a list for you, see what you can find?” Qin Xue went back to her room, fetched a piece of paper and a pen, and wrote down the ingredients for making a cake for her sister.

“Eggs, sugar, flour, milk.” Qin Jiale softly read the list her sister made.

“Correct, can you find them?” Qin Xue asked her sister.

“We have everything at home except for milk. If not much milk is required, I can try to find that too. But can we drink milk?” Qin Jiale shivered at the thought of milk.

“Don’t underestimate it. Milk powder is made from it, don’t you think it’s drinkable?” Qin Xue couldn’t understand why so many people didn’t recognize the benefits of milk. It was indeed a great item.

“Fine, I’ll go find it. When I get it, I’ll let you know.” As for milk, Qin Jiale wasn’t saying it couldn’t be found, she just thought it was for cows to drink, not humans. She had heard that humans drink milk produced by dairy cows after processing. So she had never seen anyone drink ordinary milk.

“Go ahead, I’m going to sleep. Call me when you find everything,” Qin Xue waved her sister off to fetch the ingredients. She had forgotten that Jing Xin came over last night. Neither had she seen Fang Xiu, nor had anyone else shown up. She just assumed they were all still in their rooms, not risen from their slumber, as the weather was just perfect for sleeping in.

Soon after she saw her sister out, she snuggled back into Chu Molin’s arms, closed her eyes, and was fast asleep. Not a single word was exchanged between them, leaving Chu Molin staring at his wife’s sleeping face, utterly helpless.
