Ultimate Series, Past Lives Revealed

170: The idea of taking on apprenticesThe heavenly screen moved forward rapidly, as if pushed by an invisible hand.

Li Jianyi’s life seemed to have been fast-forwarded; in the blink of an eye, he had reached middle age.

Looking back on his life, Li Jianyi discovered that his days were almost entirely filled with busy rushing about.

Every day, he traveled between different regions, accepting various tasks to earn Karma.

These tasks were varied; some involved helping people solve difficult problems, while others involved assisting with supernatural events. Regardless of the nature of the task, Li Jianyi always adhered to his master’s teachings: do not carelessly form Karma, and do not reveal heavenly secrets.

Because of this, with the blessing of the continuously accumulated Karma, Li Jianyi’s power and Dao techniques continued to grow, and he did not suffer any backlash for revealing heavenly secrets.

After several years of observation, Daoist Master Li finally felt at ease with Li Jianyi.

He decided to let go of his worldly attachments and go for Reincarnation.

Before leaving, Daoist Master Li specifically entered a dream to bid farewell to Li Jianyi; this was also the last karmic connection between master and disciple.

When Li Jianyi woke from his sleep, his eyes were red and swollen, clearly having wept because of last night’s dream.

However, he knew that life had to go on. Despite feeling somewhat melancholy, he had to pull himself together to face the new day.

Li Jianyi remembered that his master had always lived alone, and now that it was his turn, he, too, had to get used to this solitude.

As for marriage, Li Jianyi had never thought about it.

After all, in modern society, there is no rule stating that Daoists cannot marry, but he felt his life was already fulfilling enough and did not need marriage to add anything.

Since Li Jianyi was satisfied with his current life and did not want to make any changes, especially when he thought that if he were to start a family, he would likely be forced to give up his life as a Daoist, this thought became even stronger.

Therefore, a thought sprouted in Li Jianyi’s mind: when the time was right, he would go find an abandoned infant and raise them to be the next head of the Daoist temple, just as his master had found him back then.

Once he had this idea, Li Jianyi began to put it into action.

From that day on, whenever he went to accept a task, he would incidentally cast a divination for himself to see if there was anyone with whom he had a master-disciple connection.

However, what Li Jianyi truly hoped for in his heart was to find a child.

After all, when trained from a young age, a child’s natural aptitude would be better, and their plasticity would be stronger.

Once they reached adulthood, their natural aptitude would be set, and teaching them would become much more difficult.

After the idea of taking an apprentice sprouted in Li Jianyi’s heart, he did not bury it deep within but chose to reveal this thought to the people in the village.

However, Li Jianyi discovered that many familiar faces had already grown old.

After all, even Li Jianyi himself had already entered middle age.

Especially those villagers who had once taken care of him as he grew up; they now appeared extremely aged.

Some elders had already passed away, perhaps they had already undergone Reincarnation and started a new life journey; while others had become less mobile due to physical reasons.

When the villagers learned that Li Jianyi wanted to take an apprentice, and specifically wanted to adopt an abandoned infant, they all felt very puzzled.

Some of them could not suppress their inner doubts and asked directly: ”Daoist Master Jian, why must you take an abandoned infant as an apprentice?”

Facing everyone’s questions, Li Jianyi just smiled slightly and replied: ”Heavenly secrets cannot be revealed!”

His words revealed an aura of mystery, making people unable to help but feel more curious about his decision.
