Pioneer Lord: Starting From Daily Intelligence

Chapter 1019: Chapter 145: Final Battle in the Dwarf King’s Hall · Reclaiming Frost Fang Mountain (Part 2)

As the Alliance Army advanced, the monsters they encountered were evidently organized by some powerful Chaos will or entity, forming a layered defense and counterattack.

But the Dwarves, intoxicated by their successive victories, plunged deep and became trapped in the enemy’s encirclement.

However, he arrived somewhat late. By the time he realized the severity of the situation, the Dwarf army at the front was already heavily besieged.

What he took over was entirely a hot potato! This made him curse the Dwarves’ stupidity under his breath. If possible, he truly didn’t want to wade into this mess.

If the Hesse Territory’s 1,000 elite infantry and cavalry were to be lost here, it would be the most disastrous loss since the creation of the Hesse Territory! The furious Lord, Marshal, and Attendant Chief would tear him apart.

But he had no choice but to step up, leading the army into the heavy encirclement to rescue the Dwarves. At this moment, if the Dwarves were not pulled out, even the humans couldn’t save themselves.

The place where the Dwarves were besieged was the Ancestral Furnace. When Dorok Redbeard saw Edwin, his voice was already hoarse, and his beard was matted with smoke and blood: ”General Edwin, you’re just in time. Those damned monsters! They’re not just scattered rabble! There’s command behind them! They have brains!”

He pointed to a huge underground cavern marked as ”King’s Hall” on the map and said, ”We’ve been stuck here for three days! Each assault gets pushed back! The losses are too great!”

Gesen Greyrock’s brow was furrowed in a knot, his grizzled beard dusted with stone dust: ”They have transformed our King’s Hall into a nest, where lowly Beastmen, Giants, and various Chaos Monsters breed like a plague.”

”The great challenge we face now is the gigantic chasm before the King’s Hall—the Stone Throat Pass. This is not naturally formed but part of an ancient Dwarf engineering marvel, a suspended plank path carved into steep mountain walls, allowing only three or four people to walk abreast, with a bottomless dark canyon below. The end of the pass is blocked by a massive stone door carved with the faces of Dwarf ancestors, which the enemy has now transformed into a terrifying fortress.”

”The danger here far exceeds the Stone Throat Pass at the entrance to the Frost Fang Mountain Range. The previous alliance battles underestimated the scale and ferocity of the defenders. As the alliance army struggled to advance along the narrow plank path, deadly blows came from above, below, and even from the fissures in the side walls!”

”Herds of Beastmen climbed and leaped from the caves above the plank path and the shadows of the canyon below. They moved silently, with poisoned claws and teeth, targeting solitary or weary soldiers, creating chaos and fear. The Dwarves’ sturdy formation couldn’t unfold in the narrow space, the crossbowmen’s views were blocked by the rock walls, and casualties began to spike.”

”Even more terrifying, several massive cyclopes were driven onto the rock shelves on either side of the pass. With immense strength and thick skin, they ignored most arrows and crazily hurled giant stones the size of millstones downward! Each falling stone was accompanied by the roar of phalanx crumbling and the despairing screams of soldiers. Heavy stone-throwing vehicles couldn’t be deployed on the plank path, and the Dwarves’ prized cannons had difficulty adjusting their elevation for effective strikes.”

”Behind the stone door, faint sounds of desecrating drums and roars could be heard. Some Beastman Shaman and Chaos Raiders, obviously twisted by Chaos power, were mixed in the beast herd, releasing nauseating filthy magic and frenzied war cries, further weakening the alliance army’s will to resist. If not for the Long-bearded Warriors of the Gray Rock Clan holding strong as a backbone, their booming roars full of rage reverberating like thunder in the narrow space, driving away the whisper of fear time and again, inspiring the warriors beside them to respond to the enemy’s provocation with roars and weapons, the army might not have been able to stand its ground.”

With furrowed brows, Edwin said, ”Take me to the front line to see.”

”Please follow me.” Dorok briskly brushed the blood and grime off himself, wasting no words as he immediately led Edwin out of the central command post and into the front line.

At this moment, the battle between the Alliance Army and the monsters continued, with corpses lying everywhere on the plank path, blood staining the ancient rocks red. Dwarf warriors formed a moving wall with shields and flesh, arduously pushing against falling stones and the beast herd’s impact. The Hesse Territory’s crossbowmen utilized every possible cover to accurately shoot down Beastmen attempting to climb and ambush, and hurled flaming oil pots attempting to ignite the cyclopes, but with limited effect. The radiant golden light from human knights could purify the defilement and scorch approaching Beastmen, but in such a narrow terrain under threat of long-range stones, their charge power was hard to unleash.

Edwin stood on a relatively safe high ground at the rear, observed briefly through aerial reconnaissance by Griffin Knights, then returned to the command post and decisively said, ”This proves that a frontal assault won’t work. We must combine surprise with straightforward tactics.”

He thought for a moment and said, ”I have a bold and risky plan.”

With a fiery temper, Dorok immediately replied, ”Speak quickly, even if it’s risky, it’s better than the brutal attrition here.”

Edwin nodded and said, ”While flying just now, my view was higher than yours. I observed that these cyclopes, although ferocious, have low intelligence and are awkward in movement. It’s difficult for them to adjust their attack directions, and at least during the time I observed, without orders, they hardly made any adjustments. This means if we launch a rapid assault, it’ll be difficult for them to react.”
