Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Inside the distinguished guest room of the appraisal office, Lin Yu and April sat on soft sponge chairs and removed their breathing masks.

Since the distinguished guest room of the Sea Demon capital’s appraisal office would certainly receive guests of different races, it could naturally drain the seawater from the room and fill it with air.

Savoring the small snacks made from dried shellfish scallops, not long after, the door to the distinguished guest room opened.

A Sea Demon appraiser wearing a ”water-chamber helmet” walked into the room. From the other party’s aged gait, Lin Yu could tell...

This person’s status was likely very exalted.

”You two, you two humans,” the aged Sea Demon appraiser spoke, ”I heard you two come from the Central Sea... What would you like to appraise?”

”One ’tentacle of the Black-Ink Twin-Headed Octopus,’ plus a piece of ’meat steak’ bestowed by a god.”

As Lin Yu spoke, he placed his trophies on the table before him.

”Ingredients and a finished dish, is it,” the Sea Demon appraiser’s expression grew several degrees more solemn, ”Truly worthy of someone from the Central Sea. Even when selling, you only sell premium goods.”

In Pure Abyss, perhaps because of the interests and hobbies of the gods here, the people especially valued ”delicacies.” High-quality ingredients were like gold, a hard currency, and excellent chefs were regarded as the most elite artists.

Therefore, selling exquisite food and outstanding ingredients was a rather ”luxurious” affair.

The Sea Demon appraiser took out a pair of clip-on glasses from his bosom and put them on, carefully approached the black tentacle on the left, picked up the tip of the tentacle with tweezers, then pierced it with a long needle. His expression grew even more solemn.

”What an incredible size and firmness. This ’Black-Ink Twin-Headed Octopus’ must be the hundred-meter one from the Mermaid Kingdom,” the Sea Demon appraiser said gravely, ”Your Excellencies two...”

Lin Yu nodded calmly: ”Yes, it attacked us when we passed through its territory, so we slaughtered it along the way.”

”Although the Central Sea does have places that directly farm these Black-Ink Twin-Headed Octopuses, wild ones always have more flavor.”

He looked at the Sea Demon appraiser’s expression and knew the other party seemed to be largely unaware of too many details.

The Sea Demon appraiser indeed nodded with an unchanging expression and spoke: ”Then indeed, the value of this tentacle will not be too low. I will issue you a certificate as ’High-Grade Ingredient.’ I recommend listing it for sale at the Tide Summoning Festival at around fifty thousand to seventy thousand Sea Demon Shells.”

The reason Lin Yu was bringing out this tentacle to sell at this moment was also to probe at the Tide Summoning Festival, to see what kind of conspiracy truly lay behind the sinking of that ”Lucky Golden Dragon.”

Although it looked very much like an ordinary attack by Sea Demons, before Lin Yu found solid evidence, he certainly would not optimistically treat it as an isolated incident and let it go.

Lin Yu felt that if conditions allowed, it was best to figure out the ”truth” of the attack as much as possible, to prevent himself from suddenly being stabbed in the back by some Sea Demon that popped out of nowhere for some completely unknown ridiculous reason while he was collecting [Mermaid’s Tears] and maneuvering and confronting the Mermaid Royal.

”As long as I put this thing out for sale, if any Sea Demon shows any unusual reaction to it, I can follow the trail from there.”

This was obvious fishing.

And precisely because this was mainly a fishing tool, the plan Lin Yu wanted to use to elevate his identity through trading at the ”Tide Summoning Festival” was not something he relied on this thing to achieve.

His greater reliance was still on that ”delicious meat steak” summoned by consuming the Reusable Flavor Papers.

Using it without reservation, combined with the home-field advantage of the Flavor Papers and a little bit of ”luck,” Lin Yu had noticed the moment it fell into his hands that the quality of this food... was absolutely not inferior to that dessert he had eaten back then, the one that had given him the [Sweet Luck] buff.

And that dessert had been a delicacy lovingly crafted by Hannah’s sixth uncle, the Chosen One of the Pure Abyss Realm’s Banquet God, ”Ka,” who was extremely skilled in cooking and cuisine.

Although limited by time, venue, and subject matter, perhaps that was not Ka’s very best dish.

But a delicacy that could be ”on the same level” would certainly not be some cheap goods if put up for sale at the Tide Summoning Festival in Pure Abyss.

That Sea Demon appraiser had already been very cautious when appraising the tentacle earlier.

Now, facing this meat steak, he did not dare to be negligent in the slightest, after all, just the title ”gift from a god” that Lin Yu had mentioned earlier was intimidating enough.

Therefore, the appraiser once again took out an even finer-looking pair of tweezers, carefully shifted the position of the meat steak, and shone a flashlight on its surface.

The grilling marks interlaced with the texture of the premium meat steak itself, beautiful like a chessboard polished from precious wood.

Food summoned by [Reusable Flavor Papers] had a nearly cheat-like freshness period. This kind of conceptual-level delicacy came with a built-in preservation and heat-retention function, able to lock in the optimal texture and flavor. Even though Lin Yu had summoned it quite a while ago, its temperature had still not dissipated much.

The still steaming, tender and juicy meat steak placed on the table was itself enough to demonstrate its value.

The tweezers gently pressed the meat steak, and the fragrance penetrated the water-chamber helmet, causing the Sea Demon appraiser to reveal an intoxicated expression.

”This... is indeed delicious!”

”Top-grade ingredients, top-grade cooking, nearly perfect technique, and this meat quality comes from a world outside Pure Abyss. The chef should also be one of the top chefs of Pure Abyss, the finest masterpiece of the finest chefs. This, I can issue you the highest-grade appraisal certificate of ’Present-World Treasure.’ In fact, this delicacy does not even need my appraisal, anyone with a bit of common sense can see its preciousness.”

”However, I cannot give you guidance on a price estimate... I believe you had best put it up at the Tide Summoning Festival’s auction.”

The Sea Demon appraiser spoke, his expression intoxicated.

”I must thank you for letting me see such a marvelous delicacy. Even in my career as an appraiser, this can rank in the top ten.”

”Forgive me for asking out of turn, but why do you want to sell it?”

Hearing this, Lin Yu nodded slightly.

”If a delicacy is not savored, then it is meaningless.”

”A delicacy of this grade is indeed rare, but it is not as if I have never tasted it before. Having come all the way to the Outer Sea and joined the Tide Summoning Festival, I feel I have an obligation to let more people taste it.”

The Sea Demon appraiser was filled with reverence: ”What a great idea.”

”It is not quite so great as all that. After all, I also intend to exchange it for a sum of money. There is something I wish to purchase at this Tide Summoning Festival.”

As Lin Yu spoke, the Sea Demon appraiser grew a little curious.

”What is it you want...”

”I am very interested in the ’Lost Treasure,’” Lin Yu said casually, then lowered his voice, ”Of course, more importantly... I hope to purchase some less common materials, such as, [Mermaid’s Tears]!”
