Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Sharp words cut like needles and blades, carrying a stinging pain that was impossible to ignore.

”Who is it? Who?!”

The gold-tailed mermaid, the noble prince, roared in furious interrogation. He wanted to feign dignity and calmly display his wrath, but the loss of control in his tone had already betrayed him.

He even knew who it was, because the speaker had shown no hesitation and had already stepped forward.

The human woman wearing a black mask slowly floated up from the crowd, rising to a height level with him.

Naturally, this was none other than the ”Yayu” played by Lin Yu!

For Lin Yu, this might have been an encounter he could have avoided by letting things slide, but...

Considering Yayu’s character design, it was impossible for Lin Yu to have no reaction at all.

After entering this 【dungeon】, in the face of April’s questioning, Yayu had displayed a rather firm and unfriendly response. And if such a character suddenly chickened out when facing the merfolk royalty... then Lin Yu felt that Yayu as a character would be an absolute failure!

In his understanding and settings, Yayu should be the type who, when conditions permitted, would absolutely never back down.

What’s more...

Now, from ”Yayu’s” perspective, stepping forward to directly confront this merfolk prince was not exactly an unprofitable move either.

In Yayu’s setting, she should also be very skilled at stepping on others to climb up. Like a young foreign male lion confident enough in his own strength, the first thing he does upon arriving in a new pride is challenge the strongest, highest-status lion among them.

The Mermaid Captain stared at Lin Yu, dumbfounded.

”Has your bodyguard gone insane?” The Mermaid Captain hastily tugged at April, speaking urgently. ”Even though you’re humans, you’ll still be executed!”

The Mermaid Captain was so anxious he was nearly sweating. What if this got traced back to him and they discovered he was the one who brought them into Baobol?

April looked at Lin Yu. Rationally, she also felt his action was too rash and couldn’t help but frown slightly.

But April did not step forward to stop Lin Yu’s next move. After all, it was too late to stop him now... Instead, she might as well watch and see what he actually intended to do.

Moreover, speaking emotionally, April vaguely sensed that although his behavior seemed rash, it was not the result of a hot-headed impulse.

In his understanding and setting, Yayu should be the type who, when conditions permitted, would absolutely never back down.

If April had to name Yayu’s motive... it was probably mostly that he just found the other guy displeasing?

But she could also perceive that this cold and savage fellow wouldn’t act for only that reason alone.

”I think he has his own ideas,” April murmured, looking in Lin Yu’s direction.

Prince Kede clearly did not understand Lin Yu at all. From his perspective, this was nothing more than a human who had suddenly gone mad.

A mere human, a race that didn’t even have its own nation, dared to insult him, a noble and exalted member of the merfolk royalty?!

In Yayu’s setting, she should also be very skilled at stepping on others to climb up. Like a young foreign male lion confident enough in his own strength, the first thing he does upon arriving in a new pride is challenge the strongest, highest-status lion among them.

Even... the establishment of the Central Sea surely couldn’t have been achieved without the support of the merfolk royalty back then!

So what if this guy had been to the Central Sea? It was probably just luck!

Thinking this, Prince Kede looked at the human before him who could still meet his gaze levelly and felt even more displeased. ”What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and seize this wretch and chop off his head! Why are you all as stupid as walruses!?”

As Prince Kede spoke, the surrounding merfolk guards snapped to attention, raising their weapons and carefully sending a portion of their number to approach Lin Yu.

”A nameless nobody from the countryside, a salted fish from the wild seas, a lowly and short-sighted creature who encloses a patch of ground and calls himself king, an ignorant fool,” Lin Yu said with a sigh, looking at the merfolk approaching him. ”Do you really think you’re the most noble person in this sea?”

He flipped his hand in the water, and between his index and middle fingers appeared a stack of golden paper coupons from thin air.

Then, Lin Yu tore the thin paper, and a ripping sound echoed across the seafloor.

The next moment, a wrapped grilled fish fillet plummeted at extreme speed from above everyone’s heads, piercing through layer after layer of seawater and landing precisely in Lin Yu’s hand.

The pervasive aroma made everyone in the entire body of water swoon. Even the mermaid who called himself Prince Kede couldn’t help but swallow his saliva.

Lin Yu looked at the mermaid’s shocked yet greedy gaze and spoke coldly. ”Although you’re just a madman who crowned himself, since you have the courage to call yourself ’king,’ you surely aren’t so ignorant as to not recognize good stuff, are you?”

He spoke with contempt, toying with the grilled fish fillet in his hand before taking a bite.

The 【item】 personally distributed by the God of Banquets, Wine, and Revelry, the 【Reusable Flavor Papers】 capable of summoning delicacies, was used. Used here in the Pure Abyss Realm, the speed at which the food fell was even faster than before.

The merfolk prince named Kede stared intently at the fish fillet in Lin Yu’s hand, then looked toward the sword-bearing silver-tailed merfolk standing closest to him.

”Sword... this guy...”

”Your Highness the Prince, that is the genuine article, a bestowal from a god,” the silver-tailed merfolk said in a low voice, his handsome eyes also locked onto the fish fillet in Lin Yu’s hand. ”In other words, this... respected human lady is probably not someone who has ’been to the Central Sea,’ but rather someone who ’comes from the Central Sea.’”

”And moreover, she very likely holds a prominent position in the Central Sea, having earned the god’s appreciation.”

Hearing the silver-tailed merfolk’s words, Prince Kede was startled and suspicious for a moment, then...

A somewhat awkward, visibly fake smile appeared on his face.

”So it’s an honored guest from the Central Sea. I truly was most rude earlier! It was all a misunderstanding!”

”That being the case, I believe we can use this ’teleporter’ together...”

As Prince Kede spoke, Lin Yu sneered. ”Who would use it together with an idiot like you? You line up behind me, idiot.”

The moment these words came out, Prince Kede’s face, which had barely managed to squeeze out a smile, turned gloomy once more.

”I’m telling you, don’t refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit. So what if it’s the Central Sea? This is Baobol, my city. Even if a Chosen One came in person...”

As his voice fell, Prince Kede suddenly noticed a flash of emerald green light before his eyes.

”Ding!”

The sound of metal clashing rang out. The sword of the silver-tailed merfolk called Sword beside him blocked in front of Prince Kede, the slender blade trembling slightly.

If not for his intervention, the cyan-green short sword now slowly sinking toward the seafloor would probably have embedded itself in Prince Kede’s skull.

”Your Excellency, even if you come from the Central Sea, aren’t you going too far?”

Sword spoke coldly.

Lin Yu gently hooked his finger, and the water current carried the short sword back into his hand.

Seeing this, Sword’s pupils constricted slightly.

Prince Kede finally realized what had happened and shouted, ”This woman dared to attack me! She... how dare she attack a merfolk prince!”

”Kill her! I want her killed!”

”Your Highness the Prince,” Sword said with rare firmness, loudly interrupting him. ”Say no more!”

He turned back, looked at the indignant Prince Kede, and lowered his voice. ”This woman... if she wanted to, she could kill both you and me together.”

”And... she looks very much like she’d be happy to do it!”
