Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Lin Yu certainly didn’t have the time to lead the Marauders team, as his positioning for ”Heavenly Artisan” was never meant to be someone skilled in leadership or ambitious.

”Heavenly Artisan” was a vengeful Lone Wolf. Perhaps in the future, as Lin Yu’s strength grew and Heavenly Artisan’s power rose accordingly, he would still maintain high status and influence within the Marauders...

But Lin Yu would absolutely never actively seek ”power” within the Marauders.

The role of ”Heavenly Artisan” was far from Lin Yu’s main focus.

Moreover, just for this operation alone, Lin Yu had many other things to handle.

Fortunately, having strength made negotiations easier.

”I’m not really good at cooperating with others... previous events have already proven that.”

”Plus, everyone here isn’t familiar with me anyway, so I think it’s better if I operate alone!”

After these words were spoken, Fish naturally agreed.

Even among the other Marauders members present, Lin Yu’s statement actually increased their favorable impression of this ”Heavenly Artisan.”

No one wanted to be ”led” by some random unfamiliar player, especially since many of them had openly mocked him before!

So when Lin Yu proposed operating alone...

These Marauders members all breathed sighs of relief.

Simultaneously, they developed further goodwill toward Lin Yu.

”This guy knows his place!”

And Fish also developed additional favorable feelings toward Lin Yu.

Combined with Lin Yu’s previous performance of ”feigned grief” and ”filled with hatred,” Fish seemed to develop some strange assumptions and resonance with the past of the ”Heavenly Artisan” that Lin Yu was portraying.

She sighed.

”I completely understand you. Having just experienced something like your trusted companions being completely wiped out... it’s natural to feel some resistance toward cooperation.”

”But you’re lucky—at least you have a clear target for revenge. So go ahead and do it!”

”My promise still stands. Even though you’re operating alone this time, as long as you produce results, I’ll still preserve your rewards.”

Fish spoke seriously, appearing quite confident in Lin Yu.

”Go ahead, I believe in you!”

With Fish’s permission and blessings...

In the heavy night darkness, Lin Yu left the cargo ship.

He strolled slowly, transforming back into his original appearance amid the desolate night.

That is, the appearance belonging to Lin Yu.

Then...

He took out May May’s phone, edited a brief message, and sent it to ”High Mountain.”

”Mar base.”

Lin Yu intentionally kept the text extremely concise, creating the impression that he had edited the message under extremely inconvenient circumstances.

After this message, Lin Yu sent a location pin.

Then, humming a cheerful little tune, Lin Yu left the abandoned port.

He had no intention of spending the night on the Marauders’ ship, even if he hadn’t sold these people’s coordinates.

Although ”Heavenly Artisan” was from Zheng City...

Lin Yu was actually local to Jiangcheng—he had a home in Jiangcheng.

Soon, Lin Yu found a shared bicycle by the roadside, rode it to the main road, hailed a taxi, and returned home.

It was already early morning now.

Looking up at the lit window of his home from downstairs, Lin Yu’s expression turned somewhat serious. He immediately took out twenty thousand yuan in cash from his backpack, holding it in his hand for courage before daring to go upstairs.

Standing at the doorway, Lin Yu took a deep breath, shielded himself with the cash, and slowly opened the door.

Sure enough, as soon as the door opened, he heard his sister’s angry, dissatisfied voice. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ novel※fire.net

”So you do remember to come home!”

”These past few days have been really too much. Even if you’re out making money...”

The voice abruptly stopped.

Lin Zhao behind the door had obviously spotted the twenty thousand yuan in cash and swallowed hard.

”...Even if you’re out making money, you still need to take care of your health. What’s with working so late?”

Lin Zhao’s voice had softened considerably, though it still carried some complaint.

Lin Yu breathed a sigh of relief, entered, shoved the money into her arms, and said cheerfully, ”Sis, this was a rare opportunity! This time it wasn’t just shooting a commercial—I legitimately guest-starred in a role!”

”Got to seize these good opportunities, right?”

As he spoke, Lin Zhao behind the door put her hands on her hips and pursed her lips.

”Alright, alright—the child has grown up, full of reasoning now!”

”Let’s eat!”

As she said this, Lin Zhao pointed to the steaming hot food on the table, all of Lin Yu’s favorites.

Lin Yu looked somewhat surprised. ”Sis, I don’t think I told you in advance I was coming back...”

Lin Zhao snorted lightly. ”Just had a feeling you’d be back, that’s all.”

The two sat at the dining table. Lin Zhao put away the twenty thousand yuan and sat opposite Lin Yu.

Having waited so long, Lin Zhao seemed somewhat hungry too and served herself a bowl of porridge.

The siblings sat facing each other.

Looking at his sister, who clearly looked much better than before, Lin Yu’s eyes grew increasingly soft.

Even though ”acting” was the strongest obsession that kept him alive and made him join the Death Game, Lin Zhao’s existence...

Was also the reason that made Lin Yu sigh, ”It’s good to be alive.”

So, while eating, Lin Yu spoke somewhat vaguely.

”Sis, actually, this twenty thousand is just an advance payment. There should be another seventy or eighty thousand coming later... With this money, you should be able to renovate the shop and hire a couple of people to help.”

”Or wait for me to earn a bit more. I’ve been learning about stock trading and investments recently—might be able to get you a bigger, newer shop.”

As Lin Yu spoke, Lin Zhao’s first reaction was refusal.

”The shop is doing just fine. Why change it?”

”Renovation... there’s no hurry. Anyway, I clean every day. The shop might be small, but it’s very clean!”

Lin Yu pressed his lips together. ”It’s not about cleanliness. Your shop is too old—the wiring and pipes have aged, posing serious safety risks.”

”Bah, bah, bah! Who are you cursing, you brat!”

Lin Zhao laughed and scolded while hitting Lin Yu.

”Better save this money. You might need it later yourself.”

Seeing Lin Zhao so determined, Lin Yu just shrugged.

”Alright.”

But in his heart, he had made up his mind. After all, he now had plenty of money on hand.

Maybe he should keep it from Lin Zhao and secretly arrange for a new shop for her!

As for the source... there would always be a way to explain it.

He absolutely couldn’t let Lin Zhao keep squeezing into that dilapidated little street shop in the old district!

Thinking of this, Lin Yu couldn’t help but ponder.

”Making money from the Death Game through killing and plundering is easy, but currently none of my identities are really suitable for that kind of work anymore.”

”Maybe I should consider creating a new identity specifically for being a ’bounty hunter’...”

”Or maybe use my original ’Lin Yu’ identity? After all, this identity’s publicly known profession is Soldier, with a relatively decisive personality, and... if I really remain completely inactive and achieve nothing, it might actually make those organizations that have been monitoring this identity suspicious!”

”After all, my potential rating is very high—I should at least show some signs of being extraordinary!”
