Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 163: Chapter 145: River-Flipping Crocodile

The five of them swam quickly toward the shore, like five lambs being herded.

The five of them weren’t slow, but compared to the unknown Dominator-Level Pet Beast, it was nowhere near fast enough.

’This isn’t working. At this rate, we’ll be caught before long.’

As this thought crossed Li Qian’s mind, he issued a command without the slightest hesitation.

”Xiaoliu, use Frost Breath!”

The enemy was an unknown Dominator-Level Pet Beast from beneath the water. Even if it wasn’t a Water Element type, it was surely as comfortable in the water as a Frostfire Salamander.

Against such a foe, the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon’s Water Skills would be largely useless. Fire and Wind Element attacks couldn’t be used underwater, so the most convenient and likely effective option was Xiaoliu’s Ice Element.

Li Qian didn’t expect to inflict much damage on the unknown enemy in the water; he only hoped to delay it for a moment or two.

Following his command, Xiaoliu swiftly turned around, faced the direction they had come from, opened its massive maw, and violently spat out a plume of blue-white frigid air.

”Warning, warning. Frigid air approaching. Temperature: negative ninety-six degrees!”

The very instant the plume of blue-white frigid air was unleashed, the others in their Mechanical Armor immediately received a system alert.

They all turned to look back at the Frostfire Salamander, expressions of utter astonishment on their faces.

For a single Skill to register such a terrifyingly low temperature... the combat power of this Salamander Pet Beast was truly horrifying.

It had to be at least Mid-Tier Commander Level!

This was also indirect proof of its incredibly high Potential.

The captain, the two Flying Ship Attendants, and the unfamiliar beautiful woman all wore expressions of delight upon seeing this.

Such a terrifying Skill had almost instantly frozen a large expanse of water behind them, turning the current into a thick sheet of ice.

”Faster, go! This Skill won’t hold it for long!” Seeing that Xiaoliu’s attack had seemingly caught the other four’s attention and slowed them down, Li Qian couldn’t help but shout a reminder.

’Of all the times to be gawking at the Frostfire Salamander using a Skill...’

Spurred by Li Qian’s reminder, the other four suddenly sped up again.

Li Qian wasn’t wrong. Even if the Frostfire Salamander had high Potential and strong combat power, and could unleash Skills with a might far beyond its own Level, it was still unlikely to completely stop a Dominator-Level enemy.

At most, it could only buy them a little time.

So, strictly speaking, they were still in grave danger.

The five of them continued their desperate flight, the power of their Mechanical Armor cranked to the maximum.

RUMBLE...

Just a few breaths after they passed, the sound of a colossal impact suddenly echoed from behind them.

The instant the sound rang out, Li Qian identified it as the Overlord-level Pet Beast shattering the ice behind them.

Judging by the sound, the ice layer had indeed provided some resistance, but the effect was limited. The Overlord-level Pet Beast’s speed hadn’t decreased by much.

”Xiaoliu, another Frost Breath!” After roughly assessing the situation behind them, Li Qian issued another command.

Xiaoliu didn’t hesitate either, immediately carrying out his command and unleashing another Frost Breath.

One after another, Xiaoliu used the Frost Breath Skill a total of five times.

However, the sound of ice shattering behind them grew more and more distinct.

”It’s here!” Li Qian shouted, listening to the constant alerts from his Mechanical Armor.

The captain also shouted encouragement, ”Just a little longer! We’re almost at the shore!”

”We’re here!”

Finally, in the nick of time, just as the enemy behind them was about to close in, they reached the shore.

”Before we get out, let’s give it a taste of our power!” As the five of them neared the shore, the captain suddenly turned and roared.

As he spoke, a cannon barrel abruptly extended from the arm of his Mechanical Armor.

”Fire!”

At the captain’s command, all five of them thrust out their hands, firing five beams of laser light.

At the same time, Li Qian also ordered Qizai and Xiaoliu to add a little something extra for the enemy behind them. ”Qizai, use High-Pressure Water Cannon!”

”Xiaoliu, use Frost Breath!”

After unleashing a barrage of Skills, the five of them leaped from the water without a backward glance.

SPLASH, SPLASH...

One after another, the five of them burst from the water and landed steadily on solid ground.

They didn’t dare to delay for even a second, immediately activating their Mechanical Armor to flee.

And just a few breaths after the five humans and two Pet Beasts burst from the water...

With two deafening booms—BOOM, BOOM—two massive craters erupted in succession on the already churning river surface.

Watching the two behemoths leap from the water one after the other, Li Qian couldn’t help but curse aloud, ”It’s River-Flipping Crocodiles! Two Dominator-Level River-Flipping Crocodiles!”

This was one of the worst-case scenarios.

If two fish-type Pet Beasts had leaped out, the situation would have been much better, since fish-type Pet Beasts were generally not skilled at land combat.

But for an amphibious Pet Beast like the River-Flipping Crocodile, while being on land had an effect, it wasn’t a significant one.

What made them even more helpless was that these two River-Flipping Crocodiles, just like the Storm Eagle they had encountered earlier, had undergone some kind of unknown, bizarre transformation.

They were clearly a size larger than ordinary River-Flipping Crocodiles.

It went without saying that their combat power would be even more terrifying.

SKREEE!

Just as the five of them were grappling with this thorny situation, two sharp eagle cries suddenly pierced the air from the sky above.

”There’s more in the sky!” a female voice called out as a reminder. It was one of the two female Flying Ship Attendants.

Li Qian looked up, and the corner of his mouth couldn’t help but twitch. ”There’s a Storm Eagle, too.”

Seeing this, the captain’s voice became grave again. ”Be careful. There must be Cultists controlling them to attack the Yunyan 97—and us!”

Li Qian sighed.

He had long known that Cultists were puppeteering these Overlord-level Pet Beasts. He even knew that it was most likely the Black Divine Teachings.

But knowing and being able to do something about it were two different things. The gap in power was just too vast. Even knowing the enemy’s identity was useless.

The beautiful woman’s tone was equally solemn. ”Four Dominator-Level bizarre Pet Beasts. We’re in big trouble now.”

Perhaps sensing the oppressive atmosphere, the captain offered a word of encouragement. ”Don’t worry. We’re not far from Nandu City, so reinforcements will arrive soon. I estimate we only need to hold on for ten minutes at most. The Cultists hiding in the shadows will retreat by then!”

Li Qian heard this and couldn’t help but scoff inwardly.

’Captain, old man, I really want to agree with you, but there are only five of us. Even if those two attendants are clearly much stronger than ordinary Flying Ship attendants, it won’t make much of a difference. Trying to hold on for ten minutes? That’s just a pipe dream!’
