Chapter 772: Chapter 772: The First Chief Steward

Following the staff member, they arrived at the area behind the Asura Hall.

Right in front, they stopped before the most majestic and towering building.

Pushing the door open.

Inside, everything looked like a normal room or hall.

The only difference was that this place was broader and had an indescribable feeling.

This feeling was filled with an ancient, profound depth, and a thick, almost spine-chilling, and... bloody sensation.

Yet, this bloodiness did not cause any discomfort; instead, it made one’s blood boil.

Up ahead, at a desk, an old man was examining some scrolls—it was Duanmu Palace Master.

”Duanmu Palace Master,” the staff member took the lead in giving a bow.

”Duanmu Palace Master,” Xiao Yi also bowed slightly.

”Hmm.” Duanmu Palace Master put down the scrolls he was working on, raised his head, glanced at the staff member, and said, ”You may leave now.”

”Yes.” The staff member bowed again and then turned to leave.

In the spacious room, only Duanmu Palace Master and Xiao Yi remained.

”I wonder why Duanmu Palace Master has summoned me; what is it regarding?” Xiao Yi opened his mouth first, expressing his confusion.

He did not know why Duanmu Palace Master wanted to see him.

He was already prepared to leave the Wind Saint Territory and did not wish to get involved in troublesome matters anymore, especially those that were time-consuming.

”It’s nothing urgent, just that recently Deacon Xiao Yi has been quite impressive, and I wanted to meet you.”

Duanmu Palace Master had a playful expression on his face.

”Uh.” Xiao Yi touched his nose awkwardly, ”It was just a few casual battles, nothing worth mentioning.”

He did not think Duanmu Palace Master was praising him, but rather speaking sarcastically.

”Casual battles? Haha.” Duanmu Palace Master’s tone was neither cold nor warm.

”Just some casual battles, and yet you killed three Extreme Realm Experts, no, including the four leaders of the Wind Saint Guard, in total four.”

”Plus more than ten elite units of the Wind Saint Guard and countless warriors under the Wind Saint Empire.”

”In just over ten days, sweeping through and bloodshedding along the way.”

”At that time, the entire Wind Saint Empire was in a state of panic and fear.”

”Now, in the entire Wind Saint Empire, who does not know the great name of Deacon Xiao Yi?”

”Hmph.” Duanmu Palace Master suddenly slammed his hand down on the desk, ”If this is just casual fighting, what would it be like if you put forth all your effort, wouldn’t the entire Wind Saint Empire be turned upside down?”

”Uh.” Xiao Yi became even more awkward.

Could it be that Duanmu Palace Master was summoning him to take him to task?

Xiao Yi pondered yet his instinct told him that wasn’t the case.

If Duanmu Palace Master truly wanted to accuse him of any crime, he could have captured him already, and he wouldn’t have given him the Token to examine the scrolls beforehand.

However, he had almost no ties with Duanmu Palace Master, having met only once; what could be the reason Duanmu Palace Master was looking for him?

”Palace Master, please calm your anger,” Xiao Yi said hesitantly.

”Hmph, calm my anger?” Duanmu Palace Master snorted coldly, ”Do you, young man, think you are now strong enough to defy the law and regard no one?”

”No, it’s just...” Xiao Yi wanted to say something.

Duanmu Palace Master interrupted, ”If not, then why do you still dare to be so arrogant and reckless?”

”Do you know who is currently hunting you? Do you also know that if not for your good luck, you would already be dead, with no chance of standing before me?”

”Hmm?” Xiao Yi showed a puzzled expression.

Duanmu Palace Master spoke gravely, ”Not long ago, the Wind Saint Great Guardian personally took action.”

”You sure are cautious, knowing to take a detour, otherwise, on your way to the Royal Capital, you would have already encountered him.”

”Hisss.” Xiao Yi sucked in a breath of cold air.

The Wind Saint Great Guardian himself made a move?

As one of the most revered powers in the Wind Saint Territory, his strength was unimaginably great.

Had he truly met him, it was likely that even using all his techniques he would not have escaped death.

”Uh?” At this moment, Xiao Yi reacted.

The tone of Duanmu Palace Master was not one of accusation, but of concern.

”Duanmu Palace Master doesn’t blame me for causing such a stir?” Xiao Yi asked, puzzled.

”What’s there to blame?” Duanmu Palace Master said with a chuckle, ”Blame you for killing notables of the royal family of Wind Saint Empire? Or the various Asura Warriors and many from the Wind Envoy Team? Or other martial artists?”

”Those old fellows from Wind Saint Empire were bullying the less powerful anyways, being counter-killed by you, what is there to say?”

”As for those Asura Warriors, Wind Envoy Team, and other martial artists, since they were chasing you for the tempting rewards of the Wind Saint Empire.”

”Killing them was within reason, could I possibly expect you not to fight back and let them deal with you?”

”People die for wealth; the weak are prey to the strong, what’s there to blame?”

”Uh.” Xiao Yi was stunned, then said, ”Then what was the Hall Master referring to just now?”

”Hmph.” Duanmu Palace Master snorted coldly, ”What angers me is that you, boy, treat my words like wind past your ears.”

Xiao Yi was startled and said, ”Did Duanmu Palace Master instruct the young man on anything?”

”Nonsense, indeed you treated my words as if they were wind past your ears,” Duanmu Palace Master burst into fury.

”That day I told you, if you were in trouble, you could come to the First Main Hall and find me.”

”Yet you delayed and turned the Wind Saint Empire upside down, and still didn’t come.”

”Had I not found out two days ago that you came to the First Main Hall to consult the records, you would have left after consulting the records, wouldn’t you?”

Xiao Yi’s face showed embarrassment, but he remained silent.

The truth was exactly as stated; had Duanmu Palace Master not sought him out, he might have already left the Royal Capital and continued on his journey.

Duanmu Palace Master furiously said, ”With your current meager abilities, if you dare to wander around outside, in a few hours, the Wind Saint Great Guardian could find you.”

”After that, it would not be me looking for you, but someone directly sent to collect your corpse.”

”No...” Duanmu Palace Master shook his head, his voice grave, ”It probably wouldn’t even be up to me to send someone to collect the corpse.”

”You are a wanted criminal, even if you died, the people of Wind Saint Empire would take your body to be exposed for three days as a warning to others.”

”Uh.” Xiao Yi was stunned again, then his face showed a puzzled expression.

”Forgive my impudence, but I don’t remember having any ties with the Hall Master, and you are...”

”What, you don’t know?” Duanmu Palace Master said gravely, ”Didn’t you also not know when Old Liu helped you?”

”Old Liu?” Xiao Yi frowned.

Duanmu Palace Master said gravely, ”The First Chief Steward you met in Wind Control City, Liu Cangmang.”

”He is Liu Cangmang?” Xiao Yi was shocked.

The name Liu Cangmang was known by everyone in the Wind Saint Territory.

Once a legend of Asura Hall, the First Chief Steward.

It was rumored that long ago, even a century back, when he was young, he was already eligible to be promoted to Main Hall Master.

However, for some reason, he never took up the position and continued being the Chief Steward.

Later, he completely disappeared without a trace.

”Otherwise?” Duanmu Palace Master said with a light laugh, ”Or did you think just any ordinary Chief Steward could list your token information as secret, keeping the Wind Saint Empire from finding your whereabouts all this time?”
