Chapter 635: Chapter 189 Nan Batian: Chen 94, you TM cuckold me! (Request for monthly pass)_2

Chen Jie had revealed his mastery of the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms for several reasons, three main ones in fact.

Firstly, Nan Batian had suddenly unleashed full power, causing the situation to spiral out of control. If Chen Jie didn’t want to expose the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, he would likely have to suffer serious injuries.

Rather be seriously injured than use the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms? That’s like playing landlord with two kings in hand and yet being mercilessly defeated—an utterly suffocating feeling!

Secondly, Chen Jie realized that as his realm progressed and his martial skill improved, his other martial arts, like the Stone Breaking Hand, were no longer cutting it; the Water Manipulation Palm couldn’t keep up with his current combat rhythm either.

Now, the only technique he could rely on was the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms.

Since he would inevitably reveal the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, why not do it openly and right now? This could also probe Lord Yelu’s reaction and allow Chen Jie to make an appropriate response.

Thirdly, Chen Jie was about to succeed Nan Batian as the Gang Leader, and when taking on such a role, he needed to demonstrate his martial power to the guild members.

Even if his group were to beat Nan Batian, there would likely be those within the guild whispering criticisms about an unfair victory.

By openly showcasing the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, a leader familiar with such skill would have the deterrent power comparable to Nan Batian. That would help him command respect—this was Chen Jie’s third purpose.

The first was a compelled action, the second a test of Lord Yelu’s attitude, and the third was to intimidate the weaker members within the guild.

So Chen Jie showed the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, but to say that he had no tricks left was not quite true. Chen Jie still had his aces, such as the Rainstorm Pear Blossom Needle hidden on his person, or the soon-to-be-completed Chang Chun Skill.

And let’s not forget the Qi and Blood Holding Core Realm Pill Recipe which he was still collecting ingredients for.

These were all Chen Jie’s trump cards, and according to his plan, once Nan Batian was dealt with, Lord Yelu wouldn’t be able to strike against him soon because Chen Jie had ample time to prepare.

And by the time he might want to make a move, Chen Jie’s new trump cards would already be in play, making it less likely for him to fear the opposition.

Thus, various reasons led to Chen Jie’s deployment of the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms.

Out of these, fifty percent was out of sheer necessity—Chen Jie naturally taking advantage of the situation to achieve some goals.

Life is not a scripted smooth sail; there are always unexpected elements. The weak fear mishaps, while the strong have the capacity to control them, sometimes even turning misfortune into motivation.

Chen Jie handled this exceptionally well.

He took a stance, ready to give his all in the impending clash.

The Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms was a formidable martial art, no doubt, and often coveted. But if one could demonstrate their powerhouse abilities, others would think twice before acting against them.

It’s like a child with ten thousand in cash walking down the street—easy prey for the wicked.

But with a strong man, it wouldn’t be the case.

Strength is the ultimate guarantee.

Take Guo Juxia with the complete set of Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms—why didn’t anyone covet it from him?

Or in ”Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber,” why was the Heaven Sword, which had been in Zhang Sanfeng’s possession next to the pillar in the Martial Arts Hall at Wudang for twenty years, left untouched while everyone fought over the Dragon Slayer Saber held by Xie Xun?

The answer is strength!

Xie Xun was a target for the major sects, but Master Zhang? With Sixty Years of Demon Cleansing to his name, only a madman would dare to covet his belongings.

Hence, Chen Jie understood that now his ace was exposed, the stronger he appeared, the safer he would be.

Before revealing your trump card, you should appear weaker—this is called biding your time.

But once your ace is up your sleeve, if you still hesitate and don’t give your all, that is nothing but an invitation for exploitation!

Chen Jie was keenly aware of this principle, so he assumed his stance and addressed Nan Batian, ”Nan Batian, that burst of power won’t last long, will it? So why not surrender? Later, you can explain your actions at North Mountain to Lord Yelu, and I’ll put in a good word for you. Once you’re free, you’ll still be the Fishing Guild Leader!”

”Ninety-Four, save your breath. Don’t think that just because you’ve secretly learned the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms you can beat me. And having learned this Kung Fu, aren’t you afraid? Lord Yelu has already killed the old beggar over it. Do you think you’ll fare any better, Ninety-Four? I advise you, why not join me to fight our way out and turn hostility into friendship, to plan for greater things together?” Nan Batian laid bare the silent conflict between Chen Jie and Lord Yelu.

Chen Jie chuckled in response, ”Nan Batian, don’t try to sow discord. If Lord Yelu desires this Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, what stops me from offering it with both hands? My loyalty to the Lord is as clear as day and night!”

Nan Batian had yet to reply when Lord Yelu already spoke out, ”Jiu Si, your words greatly comfort me. After all, it’s just a martial technique. How could it harm the bond between us? Rest assured, today I swear in front of the hundreds present that I have no designs on Jiu Si’s Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms. Should I break this oath, let heaven and earth strike me down!”

The crowd was stunned by Lord Yelu’s promise. Not long ago, they were fighting to the death over the Divine Technique, and now he pledged not to covet it—could it be because Chen Jiu Si was the holder?

Chen Jie didn’t think he was anything special, but Lord Yelu’s words did indeed clarify his position—that Chen Jiu Si’s value to him was currently above that of the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, hence the vow to put Chen Jie’s mind at ease.
