Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 617: Chapter 186 what? How is this possible?_2

”When we get here, we’ll be safe,” he said. ”Look, there are still the White Tiger Guards patrolling around. If something happens, just shout, and the White Tiger Guards will come to ask. It’s very safe. I advise you not to have any ill intentions, otherwise Grandpa Chen of the White Tiger Hall will make you pay the price.”

”Grandpa Chen?”

Zhao Ya murmured softly, ”Who is this Grandpa Chen?”

The man said, ”You don’t know Grandpa Chen? The White Tiger Hall, Chen Jiusi, Fifth Master Chen!”

He spoke with pride.

Hearing this, Zhao Ya looked at him and asked, ”What are you doing with so much money on the street?”

On hearing this, the man replied, ”To buy a house.”

”To buy a house?”

Zhao Ya frowned, and the man said, ”Yes, to buy a house—a house from the White Tiger Hall. After this, my whole family will move to live on Peace Street. Then we will have guaranteed safety. I can’t talk any more; I have to hurry and pay. If I go late, the house will be given to someone else.”

The man hurried off toward the distance, where Peace Street’s abandoned area used to be. Chen Jie had later bought it all and, after organizing and renovating, built many new houses.

Thanks to a series of measures from the White Tiger Hall, this area had become Mianshui County’s benchmark street, so many people were spending a lot of money to buy houses here on Yongchang Street.

Watching the man leave in the distance, Zhao Ya slightly furrowed her brow: ”White Tiger Hall, Fifth Master Chen?”

Ah San said upon hearing this, ”My lord, if you are interested, I can grab this man to meet you.”

Zhao Ya glared at Ah San and said, ”Are you a bandit or something? Why do you only think about abducting people?”

After Ah San got scolded, he didn’t say anything more and just followed behind Zhao Ya.

For some reason, Zhao Ya became interested in this Fifth Master Chen.

Zhao Ya’s Han teacher had once told her that the Mulan people didn’t allow the Han people to hold office. Many wise Han retreated to the mountains or joined guilds, so to find capable people, one needed an eye for discovery.

Somehow, Zhao Ya felt that Fifth Master Chen of the White Tiger Hall might be a capable person.

Then, she took Ah Da, Ah Er, and Ah San, the three of them, to browse the White Tiger Hall’s four streets, and she found that these streets were different from others.

In addition, during her stroll, she discovered many odd and interesting things, like the sanitation efforts, which were overseen by the elders in yellow clothes issued by the White Tiger Hall. They were responsible for cleaning the streets, keeping them tidy.

Furthermore, she learned that the money for this came from the merchants, who called it a sanitation fee.

She asked the merchants if they were willing to pay this money.

The merchants replied, ”At first, we were unwilling, thinking it was another way to extract money, but later we were happy to pay because these people really cleaned the streets for the money they received. They kept our street spotless. People from the county preferred coming here to shop, and business became more than double!”

After hearing this, Zhao Ya also felt deeply touched: such a small action had actually doubled the revenue, which seemed inconceivable.

She also noticed that the commodities on the White Tiger Hall’s four streets were cheaper than those on other streets.

Later, she understood that this was because the White Tiger Hall had good public order and cleanliness, which attracted a great number of customers. When customers increased, merchants sold more goods, and with the large quantity, they could naturally afford to sell cheaper yet still make a profit.

Even though the merchants’ goods were cheaper, they earned much more than before.

And because the White Tiger Hall’s shops sold cheap, clean, and secure goods, they attracted even more customers.

This led to the entire Mianshui County knowing to shop in this area’s four streets, which had undoubtedly become the center of commerce for the county.

Moreover, because business was booming, the White Tiger Hall raised the management fees, but the merchants didn’t mind—in fact, they felt it was justified, and the White Tiger Hall made a killing.

As a result, the White Tiger Hall earned a lot more money and could continue to grow stronger.

The merchants made enough money to expand their businesses.

The customers could enjoy clean, hygienic, and safe services and could even buy cheaper goods, so they benefited as well.

With all three parties benefiting, naturally, everyone on these four streets of the White Tiger Hall was happy.

This contrast amazed Zhao Ya: what kind of genius could have such administrative abilities?

From just a few small streets, Zhao Ya could feel that Fifth Master Chen of the White Tiger Hall had the talent for governance.

It might seem like just a few streets, but being able to manage them to this extent already indicated more ability than most local officials, truly a great talent!

Zhao Ya suddenly became interested and somewhat wanted to meet this Fifth Master Chen to see who he was.

Meanwhile, not far away on the second floor of a building, Chen Jie sat by the window, watching Zhao Ya who was strolling down the busy streets. He spoke to Si Xi at his side, ”How long have they been here?”

Si Xi replied, ”For about two hours now. They went from Peace Street to the Big Vegetable Market and back again, and they even chatted with several merchants.”

”What did they talk about?”

Chen Jie asked with curiosity. Si Xi said, ”Just asking about street cleanliness, security, and why there are so many passersby...”

Chen Jie slightly furrowed his brow: ”What is this Commandery Princess trying to do? An Inspection Envoy not investigating the Zoroastrian Sect’s iron artifacts, but coming here to inspect the White Tiger Hall’s commerce?”

He questioned whether he had done anything that would attract the Inspection Envoy’s attention or if Zhao Ya had discovered something.

That shouldn’t be the case!

Xiao Hu said, ”Fourth Brother, this Inspection Envoy doesn’t seem to be doing her job, eh? Why is she prying into how we do business? But Fourth Brother, those three people with her seem very strong.”

Chen Jie replied with a laugh, ”Of course they’re strong; those three are in the Qi Blood Holding Core Realm.”
