The next day, Chen Jie got everything in order and headed straight for the Yelu Mansion to make his move, all for today’s final catch.

To take down Nan Batian, one first had to exhaust all of his remaining value, only then could he truly be eliminated, completing one’s usurpation.

Yes.

Usurpation it was. The matters between Chen Jie and Nan Batian were not about right or wrong.

It was merely a battle for power.

For the stability of his own power, Nan Batian wanted to kill his competitor, Chen Jie, and leave him with nowhere to be buried. It was understandable.

And for his own self-preservation, for further advancement, Chen Jie had to fight back with every means possible, no matter how despicable, no matter how shameless.

He had to win the final victory.

This world was so cruel; power struggles were that bloody.

Not questioning right or wrong, only asking about success or failure.

Chen Jie was clearly superior to Nan Batian, so he would claim all spoils of victory, and would take everything that belonged to Nan Batian.

Chen Jie arrived at the Yelu Mansion and was stopped at the entrance by a guard. Meeting Darugachi wasn’t as simple as just walking in; one had to be announced.

The guard made the announcement and soon Qimu Ge emerged. Chen Jie greeted him: ”Commander Qimu Ge.”

Qimu Ge said, ”Master Chen, please come in. Lord Yelu is waiting for you in the courtyard.”

Inside the courtyard, Yelu was fishing by the pond. Yelu had two great hobbies in life: fishing and eating sashimi.

Seeing that Chen Jie had arrived, he gestured to him: ”Jiu Si, fish for a while.”

Chen Jie took the fishing rod and sat next to Yelu to fish. Neither said a word for a long time until Yelu said, ”Jiu Si, have you discovered Nan Batian’s fatal weakness today?”

Chen Jie was not overly surprised by these words, for the matter between him and Nan Batian was already public knowledge, and Yelu couldn’t possibly be unaware that Chen Jie was looking for a way to deal with Nan Batian.

But knowing was one thing, and playing dumb when necessary was another!

Chen Jie replied, ”Heh, Lord Yelu jests. I am utterly loyal to our Gang Leader. If I knew of any fatal weakness, why would I not report to him first instead of telling Lord Yelu?”

Yelu responded: ”Jiu Si, you’re as sly as a loach in the pond, forever uncatchable with this fishing rod.”

Chen Jie replied: ”Is it possible that I have such a small appetite that I’m satisfied with a little bait Lord feeds into the pond and seek no more, thus never being caught?”

”Is that so?”

Yelu gave Chen Jie a glance upon hearing that, then fell silent, as did Chen Jie.

Both of them had just shown their tactical prowess, with Yelu accusing Chen Jie of hypocrisy, pretending to have nothing to do with Nan Batian’s situation, akin to a loach never taking the bait.

Chen Jie’s response, however, was quite clever. He did not deny Yelu’s analogy but rather followed through with it. Yelu called him a loach, so he embraced being the loach. Yelu said he was slippery and wouldn’t bite the hook, but he turned it around, suggesting that he required little, unlike Nan Batian’s unbridled ambition, difficult to control.

After hearing this, Yelu paused and then looked at Chen Jie saying, ”When did you first notice something amiss with Sun Tiechui?”

Chen Jie replied, ”The very first time I noticed, but with both you and Nan Batian protecting him, I couldn’t say more. I was also afraid of offending you, Lord, of angering you, especially since Sun Tiechui’s blacksmith shop earns you a share every year.”

”You’re afraid we colluded? I am a Mulan person, what would I want with colluding with the Zoroastrian Sect? If you insist Sun Tiechui is a demon of the Zoroastrian Sect, I might just make a thorough investigation, and perhaps that batch of military equipment won’t leave the city!”

”Lord, do you want to hear the truth or a lie?”

Chen Jie stared at the lake, asking Yelu, who narrowed his eyes and said, ”How would you put the truth and the lie?”

After a brief pause, Chen Jie explained, ”A lie would be that Lord is wise and martial, and at that moment I was completely won over by you, thus said no more.”

Yelu’s expression turned cold as he asked, ”And the truth?”

Chen Jie chuckled and replied, ”The truth, Lord Yelu, is that I am a person from Jianghu who relies on you for my livelihood. My life and death rest upon your thoughts. When Lord spoke like that at the time, what could I say? Argue with Lord? Would you then see me as a defiant person?

”If I were to displease you, my fate would surely be a dismal one, and hence, I drew back,” said Chen Jie, looking at the lake.

Yelu’s face alternated between shades of green and red. Chen Jie’s words were prickly, seemingly taunting his arbitrary and stubborn ways!

Yelu suppressed the anger rising in him and looked at Chen Jie, asking, ”Chen Jiu Si, you’re telling me all this now, aren’t you afraid I’ll settle scores with you later?”

Chen Jie replied, ”Afraid, terrified, but since Lord asked, I cannot deceive you. Although I am somewhat smooth in my dealings, I am certainly not a deceiver. If Lord asks, I will definitely tell the truth and never conceal anything from Lord. This is my loyalty.”

Yelu observed Chen Jie, who remained nonchalant and continued to fish, appearing quite at ease.

Suddenly, Yelu chuckled: ”Chen Jiu Si, you are quite entertaining.”

Chen Jie said, ”Thank you for the compliment, Lord.”

Yelu continued, ”You just claimed your loyalty to me and said you cannot deceive me. Does that mean you will answer truthfully to anything I ask?”

Chen Jie responded, ”Whatever Lord asks, Jiu Si shall reveal without hiding anything.”

Yelu looked at Chen Jie and asked, ”Alright, then tell me if all the incidents involving Nan Batian were orchestrated by you, including the first time with the guard who escaped?”
