Cutesy Wife Sweet Like Honey: Mr. Mu's Nightly Dote!

Chapter 1170: Chapter 1212: True Intentions

No matter whether these funds ultimately return to Ling Shenglan’s hands, at least they can stay in her hands for one more minute.

However, she never expected that when she revealed this earth-shaking secret, there would be no reaction at all, as if it had sunk into the sea without a trace! This was far from what she had imagined.

Hearing the implication in Ling’s mother’s words, Ling’s father stopped in his tracks, stared at Ling’s mother incredulously, and asked, ”So you were planning this all along? You deliberately told the truth to Yueyue and Xiao Feng just to avoid returning the money to Shenglan?”

Ling’s mother didn’t hide it, she truthfully shared her thoughts, ”That’s one reason, and the other reason is to give Ling Shenglan some payback! After all, we’re her brother and sister-in-law, yet she haggled over such a small amount of money and even took us to court! You tell me, how can I swallow this resentment, I definitely have to teach her a lesson, let her know I’m not that easy to bully!”

Upon hearing this, Ling’s father was instantly enraged, trembling all over as he pointed at Ling’s mother’s nose, ”You...you...you...! I honestly don’t know how to express my dissatisfaction with you! What good does angering her do us? By telling Xiao Feng, you affect their marital relationship; if Xiao Feng ends up leaving her and refuses to give her a cent, she’ll have no source of income, and will come to us seeking money even more, do you think this money can stay with us for long? If Xiao Feng doesn’t divorce her, and she doesn’t miss this little bit of money, we could still plead with her; maybe she will soften because we’re her brother and sister-in-law, and ask for less!”

Ling’s mother was indifferent to Ling’s father’s words, pursing her lips with disdain, ”I couldn’t think of all that at the time! Besides, Xiao Feng loves your sister so much, how could he bear to divorce her, at most, he would just urge her to return! Moreover, ever since she found out we didn’t pay Ling Yueyue’s support fee, did she ever see us as her brother and sister-in-law? You’ve begged her enough, invited her to those expensive meals, but she didn’t soften her heart, do you think she would ask for less?”

”You...!” Ling’s father was so angry he couldn’t speak, he stuttered for a long while, failing to utter a word, finally shaking his hand in resignation, ”Forget it, forget it, it’s already happened, it’s useless to talk more! Let’s go! We’ll find Shenglan, sort out the accounts, and return the money to her! Anyway, for these five years, we earned a hundred thousand yuan, it hasn’t been entirely unprofitable!”

Ling’s mother glanced at Ling’s father, muttered in a low voice, ”A hundred thousand yuan can’t even build a house now, it’s worthless!”

”Better to have than not! Truth be told, even running non-stop day and night, it would take us two years to save up a hundred thousand! Let’s be content!” Saying this, he stopped talking to Ling’s mother, grabbed her arm, and headed out of the hotel.

From start to finish, Ling’s mother’s expression was one of displeasure, looking resentful and unwilling.

To save money, they didn’t take a taxi, choosing to go by bus instead.

The bus came to stops and starts along the way, occasionally hitting traffic jams, and by the time they arrived outside Ling Shenglan’s guest room, an hour had passed.

As Ling’s father reached to knock on the door, he couldn’t help reminding Ling’s mother, ”Fix the look on your face, even if you can’t smile, don’t show displeasure, Shenglan won’t feel good seeing it!”

”She’s about to receive a large sum of money, what’s there to feel bad about, the one who should feel bad is me! I want to cry now, and you want me to force a smile?” Saying this, Ling’s mother’s eyes even turned red.

Thinking of all those banknotes slipping through her fingers, she wished she could drop dead!

”Even if you can’t smile, don’t put on a long face, let Shenglan see, and she’ll wonder what we think of her!” Saying this, he gently massaged Ling’s mother’s face, making her expression slightly softer, not as displeased as before.

Ling’s mother glared at him, snorted coldly in her heart with disdain, didn’t say anything more, and leaned lazily against the door frame, looking listless.

Ling’s father sighed helplessly, shook his head, and reached out to knock on the guest room door.

Soon, the door opened from the inside, and Ling Shenglan stood at the entrance with a smile, seeing them, she called cheerfully, ”Brother, sister-in-law, you’re here! I’ve waited a long time for you!”

Ling’s father explained, ”We took the bus, so it took a bit more time!”

”No worries, no worries, come in quickly!” Ling Shenglan shook her head, turned her body sideways, making way for Ling’s father and mother.

Ling’s father entered the room, pulling alongside him Ling’s mother, who still carried a displeased expression.

”Please sit on the sofa for a while, I’ll get some water for you!” Ling Shenglan closed the door, invited Ling’s father and mother to sit on the sofa, then went to pour a glass of water for each of them.

Ling Shenglan sat diagonally opposite Ling’s father and mother on the sofa, smiling, and said, ”Brother, sister-in-law, I know my attitude towards you wasn’t very good recently, but I hope you’ll understand, I was very angry at that time! But as they say, brothers should settle accounts clearly, once we’ve settled the accounts, all disagreements will naturally disappear, don’t you think?”

Upon hearing her words, Ling’s father quickly nodded forcefully, ”You’re right, brothers should settle accounts clearly, we acted wrong before, we were too selfish! Today I’ve brought all the statements and money, I hope after we clarify everything, we can resume our harmonious relationship as before, and you won’t hold a grudge against me and your sister-in-law!”

Ling Shenglan smiled and shook her head, said calmly, ”I won’t, once the accounts are clear, our disagreements will disappear, how could I hold a grudge against you! I was just distressed about my daughter at that time, hence my harsh words, I hope you don’t mind!”

”We don’t mind, we don’t mind!” Ling’s father shook his head while handing the small notebook with detailed accounts to Ling Shenglan, ”This contains the latter part of the account details, noting precisely how much Yueyue gave us each month as a living expense, check it over, if there are no issues, we’ll return the total sum stated to you!”

”Let me take a look!” Ling Shenglan smiled as she accepted the notebook, opened it, and carefully checked over each record.

Since the five years span isn’t too long, just twelve months a year, and with the detailed accounts from the first three years already provided to Ling Shenglan, this was the account for the remaining two years, so it didn’t take long for her to go through it.

Ling Shenglan closed the notebook, contentedly said, ”Hmm! I finished, there’s no major issue!”
