The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After viewing the house, Xiao Yuan called Xiao Yilin to ask when they would return.

Knowing the time, Xiao Yuan and Anning went to the supermarket to buy things.

Both of them had been quite busy these days, and neither had gone shopping. The house was missing many things, so they planned to replenish everything at once this time.

Shopping together should have been a joyful activity, but they ended up encountering two oblivious people.

Anning pushed the shopping cart to buy fruit, while Xiao Yuan went to choose some towels. When Anning reached the produce section, she noticed the oranges were fairly fresh today, so she picked a few and also bought some dragon fruit, which was Yishan’s favorite. Seeing fresh cherries, she thought about Xiao Cong and Xiao Meng’s fondness for them and bought a box.

Turning her head, Anning saw that there were fresh bamboo shoots on sale today, and decided to pick one to take home for the kids.

She had just pushed the cart a few steps when she came across two people.

Anning was very familiar with these two people.

One was her ex-husband Zhao Dahai, and the other was the mistress Yu Mei.

Yu Mei’s belly was visibly showing; she wore loose clothing and clung to Zhao Dahai’s arm, looking intimate.

”Oh my, isn’t this Teacher Qin?”

Yu Mei walked over with a smile on her face when she saw Anning: ”How come Teacher Qin is shopping alone today?”

Anning didn’t even want to acknowledge her.

But Yu Mei really lacked judgment, insisting on flaunting her superiority and presumably wanting to show off.

”Is Teacher Qin still living in the old house?”

Yu Mei asked casually, ”Oh dear, looking closely, Teacher Qin has lost so much weight. You must be too sad to eat or sleep, that won’t do. You have to take care of yourself, Teacher Qin. When my son is born and has his first-month celebration, I want to invite you over.”

Anning casually pushed the shopping cart, walked forward a few steps, looked at Yu Mei, and then turned towards Zhao Dahai: ”Zhao Dahai, you better keep your dog on a leash instead of always letting it loose to bite people; otherwise, one day, it might be beaten to death.”

”What did you say?”

Yu Mei said angrily, her eyebrows raised: ”Who are you calling a dog?”

”Don’t understand human language or what?”

Anning sneered, ”You’re a homewrecker mistress barking wild in front of me. You think I’m truly afraid of you? I just don’t want to speak to someone as shameless.”

”Who are you calling shameless? Homewrecker? Dahai and I are true love; you, a housewife who only knows how to cook and clean, understand nothing.”

”Ha.”

Yu Mei’s shamelessness made Anning laugh: ”True love? You tell me about true love now? How many years did Zhao Dahai pursue me? He chased me from high school, lining up for meals, fetching hot water, and escorting me to and from school through rain and shine. We attended the same college; he always sent meals and flowers, occasionally playing a broken guitar and singing beneath the dormitory. Seven years of high school and college to finally win me over. Back then, he told me I was the most important person in the world to him, that he couldn’t live without me. You ask him then, whether it was true love?”

As Anning spoke, she walked a few more steps forward.

”He chased me for seven years, and after our marriage, we spent over ten more together; twenty years passed, and now you claim to have true love with him after knowing him for just days? Do you know who he really is, shamelessly boasting in front of me?”

Anning laughed and pointed at Zhao Dahai: ”Tell me, what do you truly love about him? His baldness, beer belly, or flabby features? Sister, don’t be ridiculous, you’re just in it for the money.”

”You’re the one in it for the money.”

Anning’s words were sharp, drawing quite a crowd and making people laugh at how she tore into the mistress, leaving Yu Mei feeling guilty yet agitated: ”You’re dragging out the divorce just for the money.”

”You’re wrong.”

Anning shook a finger: ”I’m someone who cares about looks; I didn’t marry him for money. Back then, he was a poor man who could barely afford a wedding, and I loved him for who he was. You probably don’t know that Zhao Dahai was genuinely handsome when he was young, tall and lean, with very smooth skin. But as he aged, he became unattractive and unfaithful, and there my interest waned. You value him as a treasure, but let me tell you, sister, do you know what you are now? A junk yard, collecting rubbish that others have discarded; you’ve won my admiration.”

”You’re talking nonsense, you...”

Yu Mei stomped her foot in anger, neck stiffened, while Zhao Dahai blushed with embarrassment.

Anning’s words were truly poignant, and her fast, clear speech made it hard to refute.

Anning shrugged: ”I know you’re angry; after all, the best years and moments were given to me. You’re left with what I didn’t want, which is frustrating, but that’s your choice. You can’t blame anyone. But I’ll advise you, while he may have lost his looks, his fickleness hasn’t changed, so take care not to let another person claim ’true love’ with him. Then you won’t be able to respond like me.”

Coincidentally, Xiao Yuan came over with the goods to find Anning.

Anning smiled and waved to Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan smiled as he approached: ”All done shopping.”

Anning, clutching Xiao Yuan’s arm, said to Yu Mei: ”See? There’s a world of men out there, one goes and another as handsome as a Heavenly Immortal comes along.”

She took Xiao Yuan’s arm to pull the shopping cart and turned back to say to Yu Mei and Zhao Dahai: ”By the way, truly speaking, I should thank you, both, for being shameless; without you, I wouldn’t have divorced, nor met my current teacher. I’m very happy now; I even thought about when to invite you to dinner to thank you. But now, seeing this, there’s no need. It’s too cruel for you and I have a good heart, and I don’t wish to make you sad.”

After speaking, Anning raised her head high, linked arms with Xiao Yuan, and strode away triumphantly.

Upon leaving the supermarket, Xiao Yuan leaned close and whispered to Anning: ”Who could be so tender as to have water squeezed out? Hmm?”

Anning knew then, Xiao Yuan had heard every word, and he was jealous.

She hurriedly let out a few dry laughs: ”I was just talking nonsense. Zhao Dahai used to look like what, I can’t even remember. Had I not run into him today, I wouldn’t know who he was. Besides, with you by my side, how could I know anyone else?”

Clearly, these words pleased Xiao Yuan; his lips curled into a smile: ”Glad you’re sensible.”

Such a sulky tone.

Once out of the supermarket, Anning and Xiao Yuan hurried home to cook.

When they got home, they got busy, and neither being one for boredom or spending all day online watching videos had yet noticed that a passerby’s short clip of Anning confronting Yu Mei had started circulating online.
