The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

”What are you doing.”

Xiao Yuan lifted the two children to the side with one hand each: ”They really lose their manners as they grow older. What, do you still want to hit your mother?”

Wei Xing’s eyes reddened, angrily looking at Xiao Yuan: ”Father, she’s not my mother, she’s just a slut...”

”Ha.”

Anning walked over with a smile: ”It seems you have a lot of opinions about me, well then, if you don’t acknowledge me as your mother, I have no need to acknowledge you as my children either. Since you think Madam treats you well, you can follow her from now on, and you won’t need to slander me outside, accusing me of mistreating you.”

Xiao Yuan nodded: ”You’re right, if they think someone is good, let them follow that person.”

Anning turned to look at Xin Lan with a half-smile: ”I suppose Madam doesn’t mind raising her own grandchildren, right?”

What could Xin Lan say? Of course, she’d say she didn’t mind.

As she said this, Xin Lan’s heart was bleeding.

She cursed at Wei Xing and Wei Susu in her heart, these two useless and problematic beings.

”Since you’re willing to let me raise the children, then let Xing’er and Susu come with me.”

Xin Lan smiled as she took the hands of the two children: ”What you did just now was wrong, quickly apologize to your mother. Even if she’s not your biological mother, she is still the legitimate wife your father married properly. Both in terms of etiquette and law, you should respect her.”

Her words were seemingly addressed to the children, but in fact, they were criticizing Xiao Yuan and Anning for being disrespectful to her.

Xiao Yuan and Anning acted as if they didn’t hear, completely ignoring her remarks.

”We don’t want to.”

Wei Xing was stubborn, once he made up his mind, it was hard to change: ”She was brought by Grandma to serve us, why should we respect her? Grandma said if she dared to treat us poorly, we should go back and tell Grandma, and Grandma would naturally handle her.”

After saying this, Wei Xing proudly looked at Anning: ”Did you hear that? If you dare treat us badly, Grandma will beat you.”

Xin Lan’s face slightly changed.

Anning hadn’t reacted yet, but the Old Madam was already furious.

”Well, well, a fine Madam of the Miao Family, overreaching indeed, even starting to interfere in the affairs of my Wei Family. How my Wei Family’s descendants are brought up is not her business.”

Anning went over to help the Old Madam sit: ”Grandmother, why do you let yourself be upset over two children or the Miao Family? If you think their family is not nice, just don’t associate with them in the future. Why harm yourself with anger? If you really fall ill from this, both the Master and our Master would be terribly heartbroken.”

The Old Madam patted Anning’s hand: ”You’re the filial and sensible one.”

Anning smiled: ”That’s because the Old Madam is kind and treats me well.”

Xin Lan’s eyes nearly turned red from watching by the side.

Anning chatted with the Old Madam for a while longer before returning to her own room.

Xiao Yuan was called to the study by Mr. Wei to talk.

Mr. Wei called Xiao Yuan over to focus on asking about Chief Bai’s matters, and additionally, the situation in the Capital.

Xiao Yuan softly said to Mr. Wei: ”I know what Father is thinking. It’s nothing but the desire to become a Capital Official, but given the current situation, I think it’s better for Father to stay here in Wuyuan. If you are tired of Wuyuan, you could find connections to move to another province, but going to the Capital is really not suitable.”

Mr. Wei was taken aback: ”Is it really that dangerous?”

Xiao Yuan nodded: ”If it wasn’t so dangerous, do you think my father-in-law would really be willing to let his daughter stay so far away from him? With just a little maneuvering, he could have kept us in the Capital; at least I could have entered the Six Ministries to become a Chief. Yet, he kept us far away. What does that tell you?”

Mr. Wei, not being very brave, quickly dismissed the idea of going to the Capital after hearing this.

”Currently, His Majesty is in fairly good health, but the Princes are all gradually coming of age, so there’s bound to be fighting. The Empress is out of favor, the Crown Prince is dull, the Third and Fourth Princes have influential maternal families, and the Fifth Prince has military merits. Father, this is muddy water our family cannot step into.”

Xiao Yuan carefully explained the situation in the Capital to Mr. Wei: ”Our Wei Family can dominate Wuyuan, but what are we in the Capital? For those Princes and nobles to target us, it’s merely a matter of words. Father, it’s better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big one. Holding a regional government post, how free are we? Why bother going to the Capital to look up to others?”

Mr. Wei thought about it and realized this reasoning made sense. Since they couldn’t enter the Capital, he thought he might as well seize the opportunity while he could still hold an official post and find ways to save money.

After Xiao Yuan finished discussing the matters in the Capital, he also told Mr. Wei: ”In a few days, my wife and I will take a trip to Qingjiang.”
