The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Boss Bao arranged a time with Xiao Yuan and left a bank card before leaving.

”This is a small token of appreciation. Please, do not decline.”

Xiao Yuan nodded coldly.

Anning escorted Bao Bufen out, and as Bao was leaving, Anning quietly said to him, ”If possible, as soon as you get home, take your family and move out of the house you’re currently living in. Don’t stay in any of the other houses either; go to a hotel for now.”

Bao Bufen paused for a moment, then happily said, ”Thank you for the suggestion, sister-in-law. Thank you, thank you.”

He thought about how Mrs. Xiao must also be a master while coming down from upstairs and getting into his car.

Once Anning sent Bao Bufen off, she returned inside and raised her eyebrows with a smile at Xiao Yuan, ”You really carried the act well today; even I was almost convinced.”

Xiao Yuan handed the bank card from the coffee table to Anning: ”Take it, buy something nice to eat.”

Anning put the bank card in her purse: ”I’ll transfer the money in a bit.”

”By the way,” Anning remembered something: ”Today I’d like our whole family to go to a restaurant for dinner. Let’s invite the old man and Old Madam too, so the kids can meet them.”

”I’ll pick up the kids after school. You find a restaurant and let me know when it’s booked.”

Xiao Yuan hugged Anning: ”Soon, very soon, we’ll be living together.”

He looked at the somewhat dilapidated house: ”Ready to move house, but I am a bit reluctant. Once we move, our home’s array will have to be dismantled and rebuilt.”

Anning gave him a light slap: ”With that broken jade we purchased, it barely held up this time. Now that the array is worthless, there’s no pity in this.”

Anning used the excuse of fetching something from home as a cover to particularly come back to help Xiao Yuan with the play.

Now that the act is done, she has to hurry back to school.

”Alright, I need to rush back to work. We’ll see each other this afternoon.”

As she was leaving, Anning kissed Xiao Yuan’s cheek.

Only then did Xiao Yuan reluctantly let go: ”Honestly, you look quite good with a bit of chubbiness, very cuddly.”

Anning glared at Xiao Yuan: ”Don’t you go harboring any thoughts.”

Xiao Yuan rubbed his nose with an awkward smile.

Anning pushed past him to fetch something from inside and then left.

After Anning left, Xiao Yuan received a call from Liu San.

”Master, did Boss Bao come to see you?”

Xiao Yuan nodded: ”Yes.”

Liu San’s voice had a hint of excitement: ”Master, you wouldn’t believe it, but Bao Bufen is having terrible luck right now. His son tried to commit suicide again the day before yesterday, and Bao himself nearly got killed when the elevator he was in suddenly fell. And also...”

Xiao Yuan, after listening to Liu San, said: ”His situation is quite troublesome. I originally didn’t want to handle it, but he’s lucky; he happened upon my wife coming home. My wife is soft-hearted and empathized with his hardship. She pleaded for him, and I couldn’t turn her down.”

Liu San was quite pleased hearing Xiao Yuan say such things.

The Master seeing him as one of his own, otherwise, why share such matters?

”Master, I haven’t formally met the sister-in-law yet. Let me know when she has time, and I’ll come visit, get to know everyone.”

”I’ll ask her.”

Xiao Yuan laughed: ”Oh, you know, my wife is really awesome, it’s just... we’ve been married for a while and yet are still living separately. I worry about my kids, and she’s concerned about hers. Our place isn’t big enough, so we haven’t moved in together. But why am I telling you all this?”

”I have a spacious house. Why don’t you move in first, Master?”

Liu San meant to offer Xiao Yuan a house.

Xiao Yuan immediately replied sternly: ”Why would I need your house? It’s hard enough for you to support your family; keep the house for your son.”

After saying this, Xiao Yuan hung up the phone.

Liu San was startled, increasingly puzzled after hanging up.

He grabbed his wife: ”Did the Master say to keep the house for our son?”

His wife also heard Xiao Yuan’s words and was equally baffled.

”That’s what was said, but we don’t have a son.”

Liu San’s family only has one daughter, who’s about ten years old. After her birth, his wife never got pregnant again.

The couple was truly confused, but that afternoon Liu San’s wife started feeling unwell, constantly nauseous. Thinking she might have eaten something bad, she went for a check-up at the hospital, only to find out she was pregnant.

Without leaving the hospital, Liu San’s wife called him.

”San, I’m, I’m pregnant.”

Liu San was so shocked he nearly dropped his phone: ”Really? Where are you now, I’ll come get you.”

Liu San immediately drove to the hospital to fetch his wife, and upon returning home, he gleefully stared at her belly: ”So that’s what the Master meant, wife, this one in your belly is our son.”

Liu San, being quite the blabbermouth, couldn’t keep such a joyful event to himself. Within days, all his friends knew, and they also heard about Xiao Yuan’s miraculous deeds and got to know that Master Xiao was married but still living apart due to the small house, and even refused the house Liu San tried to give him.

Of course, Bao Bufen heard about it too, and that very night, he checked his properties.

This time, to have Xiao Yuan wholeheartedly help him, he was indeed willing to spend lavishly.

He picked out a two-story building in the county, covering almost three hundred square meters in total, and a large two hundred-square-meter flat in the city. He took out the property deeds, ready to transfer ownership to Xiao Yuan upon the meeting.

But, Bao Bufen only prepared these things and did not mention it to anyone.

Early in the morning, Mrs. Zhang went to the hospital to see Zhang Lu.

After she arrived, the nurse who was specially hired to take care of Zhang Lu returned home.

Mrs. Zhang brought breakfast when she came; she served Zhang Lu some porridge after arriving.

”Are you hungry? Have some porridge first, and once the checks come back clear at noon, Mom will get you something tasty.”

Mrs. Zhang coaxed Zhang Lu with a smile.

Zhang Lu obediently drank the porridge.

Mrs. Zhang held her hand and comforted her, ”LuLu, rest assured, even if you’re not our biological child, Mom is still your mom; Mom won’t send you to Baisha County to suffer.”

Zhang Lu tightly held Mrs. Zhang’s hand: ”Mom, I-I can’t bear to leave you either, but since my sister is coming back, then I can’t stay in our family any longer. If I remain, what will I become? Although my biological mom is gone, my biological dad is still here, I must return. Mom, I’m sorry, I don’t want to make things difficult for you, nor do I want my sister to feel awkward seeing me. After all, my sister is your biological child...”

Zhang Lu spoke tearfully, ”Mom, don’t worry, I’ll be okay. I’m in my second year of high school now; a year and a bit from now I’ll be taking college entrance exams. Even if they treat me poorly after I return, I’ll endure it for just over a year, and once I get into university, everything will be fine.”

Though Mrs. Zhang felt reluctant, hearing Zhang Lu’s words made her inwardly relieved somehow.
