The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Ms. Hu could tell that the little girl named Mao had the intention to kill her.

And Mr. Xiao seemed to want to save her.

Thinking of the friendship she had with Ms. Luo, she quickly ran to hide behind Xiao Yuan.

Sun Ling and Mrs. Sun saw the situation and hurriedly asked Mao Xiaoxiao, ”Miss Mao, what’s going on?”

Mao Xiaoxiao pointed to Ms. Hu, who was hiding behind Xiao Yuan: ”She’s a fox demon. I really don’t know what you were thinking? How could you dare marry a fox demon into your home? Aren’t you afraid she’ll eat both you and your mother in the middle of the night?”

Sun Ling and Mrs. Sun were terrified.

Mrs. Sun’s legs were trembling.

Sun Ling stammered, ”Miss Mao, my, my wife treats me well. She, she can’t be a demon.”

”Ha.”

Mao Xiaoxiao sneered, ”Could I be mistaken? As a disciple of the Maoshan Sect, is it possible I can’t even recognize a fox demon?”

Ms. Hu, hearing Mao Xiaoxiao speak ill of her, couldn’t help but speak out to Sun Ling, ”Husband, I have no intention of harming you. I married you to repay a debt of gratitude. Do you remember when you saved a white fox at the age of eight? That was me... I have cultivated for hundreds of years and have never harmed anyone. That time, I was tricked by another demon and almost died in the mountains, but fortunately, you saved me... After recovering from my wounds, I searched everywhere for you. Upon finding you, I thought to repay your kindness by devoting myself to you.”

”Sweet talk.”

Mao Xiaoxiao swung her sword towards Ms. Hu: ”I don’t believe a word of it. Prepare to die.”

Xiao Yuan stretched out his hand and flicked Mao Xiaoxiao’s sword, deflecting her gleaming treasure sword.

Mao Xiaoxiao was furious, her face flushed with anger.

”Brother Xiao, why are you protecting this fox demon? Is it because you find her attractive, or is there something going on between you two?”

As soon as she said this, Sun Ling’s expression changed.

He began to scrutinize Xiao Yuan and Ms. Hu with suspicion.

Anning narrowed her eyes slightly and slapped Mao Xiaoxiao in the face: ”Nonsense, I’m still here, and you dare to speak ill of my husband. Let me tell you, I asked my husband to save Ms. Hu. What’s wrong with a fox demon? Ms. Hu has never harmed anyone and is gentle and kind. Why are you so eager to attack and kill her? Many evildoers go unpunished, but you insist on pursuing a poor little fox. Ha, I’ve seen the unreasonable ways of your Maoshan Sect.”

Mao Xiaoxiao, slapped by Anning, was nearly exploding with anger and was about to fight Anning.

Xiao Yuan wouldn’t just watch Anning suffer injustice.

He had no qualms about hitting women, directly kicking Mao Xiaoxiao far away: ”Mao Xiaoxiao, how my master died is something your Maoshan Sect knows very well. I have an irreconcilable enmity with your sect. I figured you, having harmed people, would at least be aware of it and avoid me. I didn’t expect that after you harmed my master, you’d try to win me over. What a brilliant idea.”

Mao Xiaoxiao, kicked to the ground by Xiao Yuan, took a long time to get up.

She looked at Xiao Yuan incredulously: ”You, what are you saying? Impossible, Xiao Changmen wasn’t harmed by us. He was fighting someone...”

Xiao Yuan sneered, ”That’s just the Maoshan Sect’s cover-up.”

While speaking, he took out a talisman and threw it at Mao Xiaoxiao: ”Today, I will seek some justice for my master.”

Xiao Yuan threw a Divine Fire Talisman.

As soon as the talisman touched Mao Xiaoxiao, it ignited a towering flame.

Mao Xiaoxiao quickly attached a Fire Avoidance Talisman to herself and used a Divine Water Talisman to extinguish the flames.

Eventually, the fire was out, but Mao Xiaoxiao was left in a miserable state.

She no longer had the mind to hunt demons, and after glaring resentfully at Xiao Yuan and Anning, she fled in a panic.

With Mao Xiaoxiao gone, Ms. Hu stepped out from behind Xiao Yuan and made a bow to him: ”Hu Sanniang thanks Mr. Xie for saving my life.”

”No need to thank me. I just can’t stand the Maoshan Sect’s behavior.”

Xiao Yuan shook his sleeve and turned to go home.

Anning gestured towards Ms. Hu a couple of times and followed Xiao Yuan home.

Ms. Hu waited until the Xiao Family’s door was closed before she looked at Sun Ling and Mrs. Sun.

These two were already terrified, trembling in each other’s arms.

Mrs. Sun was so scared her lips turned pale, continuously pleading: ”Don’t, don’t come over, don’t eat us. It was my fault for making things difficult for you before, don’t eat me, you...”

Ms. Hu forced a smile at Sun Ling: ”Husband, mother, I... I’m telling the truth. I came to repay a debt of gratitude, but I didn’t expect to be exposed. Seeing you both so afraid of me, I’ve thought it over, and it’s not worth staying. Rather than successfully repaying my debt, it’s become like we’re enemies.”

”Yes, yes, you’d better leave.”

Sun Ling waved his hand: ”Wherever you came from, go back there. I don’t need you to repay me.”

Ms. Hu bowed to Sun Ling: ”Then, husband, give me the divorce paper, and I will return to the mountains.”

”I, I’ll write it now.”

Sun Ling turned to run back: ”Wait there, don’t come inside, just wait outside.”

”Husband.”

Ms. Hu called out.

Sun Ling turned around and saw Ms. Hu’s eyes brimming with tears. He remembered that over the years, he and Ms. Hu had lived as a loving couple. Ms. Hu was gentle and accommodating, took great care of him, and always endured his mother’s difficult behavior. If it weren’t for someone revealing the truth, he would never have guessed such a good wife was a demon.

Sun Ling felt a bit soft-hearted.

But he quickly thought of the divide between humans and demons and steeled his resolve again.

From a distance, Ms. Hu asked Sun Ling, ”I always wanted the best for you. After I leave, don’t neglect your studies or always think about playing. Remember to drink more water when it’s hot and add clothes when it’s cold. I... can no longer serve you and mother, but you must take care of yourselves. If there’s anything else you want, tell me, and I’ll find a way. Considering it a repayment for saving my life.”

Ms. Hu’s words were particularly touching. With tears in her eyes, she choked up while speaking to Sun Ling, appearing very emotional.

Sun Ling’s heart softened considerably.

”I...”

He wanted to say that he had nothing else he wanted, but Mrs. Sun interjected first: ”Since you’re repaying a debt, you should, you should leave your dowry with us and also give us one thousand taels of silver. Consider that as repayment for saving your life, and we’ll call it even.”

Mrs. Sun, being Sun Ling’s mother, had the authority to make decisions on his behalf. If she said this would settle things, then with the Heavenly Dao, if Ms. Hu gave them these things, she would no longer owe Sun Ling anything.

Ms. Hu’s heart leapt with happiness, and she bowed to Mrs. Sun: ”Yes, I understand. The dowry will naturally be left for my husband. I... I’ll return to the mountains tomorrow to retrieve the silver.”

Mrs. Sun smiled at this: ”That’s good. Once you have the divorce paper, leave quickly, and don’t stay at our house any longer.”

”Yes.”

Ms. Hu responded softly.

Sun Ling ran back to write the divorce paper, and Ms. Hu signed her name on it. The divorce paper was made in two copies, one for each of them, and she took her copy and left under the cover of night.

The next morning, Ms. Hu brought her brothers from the mountains with the silver and delivered it to the Sun Family.

Mrs. Sun and Sun Ling counted and found it to be exactly one thousand taels of silver.

Seeing the money, both mother and son were elated, and Ms. Hu, fearing any changes, asked Sun Ling once more: ”Mr. Sun, does this silver settle the debt of saving your life?”

Now only seeing the silver, Sun Ling quickly nodded: ”It does.”

Ms. Hu smiled, bit through her tongue to force out a drop of blood from her heart, and then forced out the drop of heart’s blood she had left on Sun Ling. These two drops of blood combined and dissipated into the air. Ms. Hu lifted her head, feeling a sense of relief, knowing that all the karmic ties with the Sun Family were now completely severed.

”Take care, young master.”

Ms. Hu took one last look at Sun Ling and then went to the Xiao Family to knock on the door.
