The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xiao Yuan stood outside the woodshed, listening to the old man weakly cursing Li Pengcheng. After waiting for a while, he knocked on the woodshed door.

”Who is it?”

The old man struggled to get up.

He opened the woodshed door and saw Xiao Yuan standing there backlit.

Even though he was standing against the light, the old man could still see Xiao Yuan’s extraordinary handsomeness.

”This young gentleman? Whom are you looking for?”

The old man’s voice trembled slightly as he asked.

Xiao Yuan reached out to support the old man, ”Excuse me, are you Mr. Li Jincai?”

The old man nodded, ”I am indeed the one; are you looking for me, young gentleman?”

Xiao Yuan helped the old man inside, while the old woman also got up to carefully observe Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan asked the two to sit down, and then said: ”I was picked up by my teacher when I was a child. Back then, I was injured on my head and didn’t remember many things. Over the years, I slowly recalled some things. I remember when I was little, I lived in Li Jiazhuang, and there was a big jujube tree in front of my house. My mother always called me Shi Tou...”

When the old woman heard Xiao Yuan’s words, she was already in tears.

”My Shi Tou, my second son, you, you mother has missed you so much.”

The old man was also in tears, ”Let me see your back.”

Xiao Yuan turned around, and the old man pulled down his clothes, seeing the three red moles on his back, he couldn’t help but burst into tears, ”Shi Tou, you finally came back, you...”

Xiao Yuan tidied up his clothes and quickly helped the old man breathe easier, ”Don’t be too excited, come on, take a deep breath, yes.”

After a long time, the old man and the old woman finally calmed down.

The old woman held Xiao Yuan’s hand and asked, ”How have you been all these years? Back then, what happened? Which heartless person hurt you?”

Xiao Yuan hesitated for a moment before saying: ”I’ve had a good life, my teacher treated me like his own son. But my teacher was tricked and passed away, after mourning my teacher, I came down the mountain. Back then, it was my elder brother who said he wanted to take me out to play. He led me to a deserted place, when I wasn’t paying attention he took a stone and smashed my head, knocking me unconscious and left me in the roadside grass...”

”What?”

Mr. Li was taken aback, his face changed dramatically.

He struggled to recall, remembering that when the second son was lost, the eldest son seemed somewhat strange. But at that time they were only focused on finding the second son and didn’t pay much attention to the eldest son.

”This bastard, how could he...”

Granny Li held Xiao Yuan’s hand tremblingly, she tried her best to control herself so she wouldn’t faint.

Xiao Yuan waited for a while before saying: ”I didn’t understand why my brother deliberately harmed me earlier, but I understand now. I was smarter than him, the teacher wanted to take me as a disciple to teach me to read. Our family was poor, and if I went to school, then my brother couldn’t. He probably felt I was hindering him, so he wanted to kill me, allowing him to study smoothly.”

”My child, you have hurt your mother so much.”

Granny Li cried heartbrokenly, hugging Xiao Yuan, sobbing uncontrollably.

Mr. Li initially felt some pity for Li Pengcheng, but after hearing Xiao Yuan talk about those early things, he had no pity at all.

Li Pengcheng’s mind was malicious, selfish and vicious, even to harm his dear ones and wanted to kill his wife, if he remained alive, who knows how many good people would suffer in the future.

Xiao Yuan talked with the two elders for a while, then assisted them out of the woodshed, and went to West City to find a better inn, opened two rooms, and checked them in.

Afterwards, he spent money to order a thin coffin, and when Li Pengcheng was executed, he collected Li Pengcheng’s corpse.

Xiao Yuan did not intend to take Li Pengcheng’s body back home to be buried, he and Mr. Li found a piece of mountainous wasteland in Jing Suburb to bury Li Pengcheng, then burned some paper money to complete the matter.

Neither Mr. Li nor Granny Li made any demands of Xiao Yuan.

The two were only full of regret and pain for Xiao Yuan, only wanting to compensate him, how could they demand anything from him?

After settling Li Pengcheng’s affairs properly, Xiao Yuan took the two elders back to Yang City.

On the way back, Xiao Yuan told the two elders about his engagement with Anning.

Granny Li was startled upon hearing Xiao Yuan was to marry the second daughter of Prime Minister Luo’s family.

She grabbed Xiao Yuan’s hand and said: ”Shi Tou, send me and your father back to Li Jiazhuang. What your brother did was inhuman, if Mrs. Luo found out you are his brother, your engagement... Since your last name is now Xiao, it has nothing to do with our Li family. Your father and I are still physically strong, we can support ourselves. You send us back first, if you have time, just come and see us. If you’re busy, it doesn’t matter, as long as you have a good life, whatever happens to your father and I, we are fine.”

Mr. Li also kept nodding: ”Your mother is right, our family has wronged Miss Luo, I don’t have the face to meet the Luo family, if someone finds out you’re that bastard’s younger brother, your engagement could be ruined.”

Xiao Yuan smiled: ”It’s okay. I am me, Li Pengcheng is Li Pengcheng, Lady Luo is reasonable and wouldn’t transfer her anger to me, besides, you haven’t wronged Miss Luo, she probably won’t be angry with you.”

Both Mr. Li and Granny Li were honest people, after Luo Anqing married Li Pengcheng, the two elders treated her very well. Especially Granny Li, who treated Luo Anqing like her own daughter, just Li Pengcheng had sinister intentions. He was afraid the elders would interfere with him and Chunniang, so half a year after marriage, he sent the two elders back home.

He told Luo Anqing that his parents wanted to go back home and were comfortable staying there.

He told the elders that he was busy with official duties, Luo Anqing was weak and couldn’t look after the elders, so he sent them home.

The two elders were really too honest, Li Pengcheng let them go home, so they stayed at home, and during the year, Li Pengcheng only sent them some silver, never took care of anything else, they never made any demands.

If Li Pengcheng hadn’t committed a crime that required execution, the two elders might have continued to live quietly at home.

Thinking of Luo Anqing, Granny Li sighed: ”If we hadn’t left at that time and stayed to watch him, Miss Luo wouldn’t have suffered so many years of grievance.”

Xiao Yuan comforted Granny Li with a few words, and at the same time, while walking, he took the two elders around, bought many things to eat and use, gradually cheering them up.

When they arrived at Yang City, Xiao Yuan settled the elders in and began to discuss the wedding with the Luo family.

The Six Rituals of both families proceeded quickly, and the wedding date they settled on was very soon, just in early autumn a month later.

At that time, Mrs. Luo also learned about Xiao Yuan’s background.

She was somewhat upset, but didn’t blame Xiao Yuan.

Luo Anqing was troubled for a few days but eventually came around. Afterward, Luo Anqing specially visited the Xiao family to see Mr. and Granny Li. She also comforted the couple, inviting Granny Li to the Luo family as a guest, gradually allowing the couple to let go of their worries.

Soon came the day for Anning and Xiao Yuan’s wedding.

Both the Luo family and Xiao Family were decorated with lanterns and festoons, bursting with happiness.

Xiao Yuan’s betrothal gifts had long been sent to the Luo household, and Anning’s dowry was delivered to the Xiao house the day before the wedding.

The eighty-eight carriages of dowry dazzled countless young ladies and newlyweds in Yang City.

Many secretly envied Xiao Yuan for marrying a daughter of the Prime Minister Luo, gaining both name and wealth.

As Xiao Yuan and Anning were getting married, on Maoshan, Mao Xiaoxiao finally got to leave the mountain.

She was overwhelmingly joyful, packing her belongings, taking a lot of silver, and some protective magic artifacts and various talismans drawn by Sect Leader Mao.

Descending the mountain, Mao Xiaoxiao sang all the way, after a while she spoke: ”Outside is so wonderful, this time down the mountain, I must make my name known, I must hunt demons, I must kill evil spirits, restoring a bright and clear mortal world.”
